Infiniti: Q30 news **Set for Production (page 1)**

Nissan's Infiniti division has published the first official image of the Q30 Concept that will greet the public for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The automaker has confirmed the show car will spawn an Audi A3-fighting compact hatchback over the next couple of years.

Halfway between a crossover and a hatchback, the Q30 Concept wears a muscular and heavily sculpted design inspired by the Etherea concept car that debuted at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The production variant of the Q30 will likely retain the concept's overall shape and dimensions, but it will lose the overly futuristic features that characterize the show car.

Expected to retain the Q30 moniker, the upcoming compact will ride on the same front-wheel drive platform as the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the upcoming GLA-Class crossover. Engineers are working closely with three-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel to fine-tune the car's chassis and suspension on the Paul Ricard track in southern France.

Infiniti hopes that adding an entry-level model to its lineup will enable it to gain ground in Europe, where sales of its larger sedans and crossovers have been dismal at best. Whether or not the Q30 will be sold in the United States is up in the air.

More details about the Q30 Concept will be available in the weeks leading up to its presentation in Frankfurt. Built in England, the production-bound Q30 will likely be unveiled at next year's Geneva Motor Show and go on sale on the Old Continent shortly after.

Just -- that thing looks like a SUV rather than a hatchback, too.

It doesn't matter if it drives like an F1 car if it looks like that. Is Infiniti trying to out-ugly Acura?

Man, there is just no pleasing you guys...

It may not be the prettiest thing, but at least it is another small luxury hatchback option. Competition in the sector will hopefully bring ever better cars.

Confirmed for production. I'm guessing to replace the EX35...or whatever it's called now.

From here: http://www.leftlanenews.com/infiniti...#ixzz35tONcnxY

A Nissan executive has confirmed that the Infiniti Q30 hatchback and its crossover counterpart, the QX30, will begin production in 2015.

"[Infiniti president] Johan de Nysschen just said that we'll build our Q30 premium compact car and the QX30 crossover in the UK (Sunderland) next year," said Nissan's British-born Chief Planning Officer, Andy Palmer, in a Twitter post. "I'm Proud."

Nissan and Daimler earlier today announced that their new jointly-owned production facility in Mexico is aiming to begin production in 2017. The Q30 and QX30 have been reported as likely products for the plant, which is expected to focus on the Mercedes MFA architecture that underpins both Infiniti models.

The Japanese automaker previously outlined plans to invest more than $400 million to expand the Sunderland facility in preparation for the Q30, bringing the annual capacity up to 60,000 vehicles.

The production identity of the Q30 and QX30 remain unclear, pending formal unveilings that are likely scheduled for early next year.
