meh- I need to see one up close before passing judgment. From the looks of it- don't think I will be a fan. The interior looks good though.

Interesting look. I haven't driven a 2005+ M45 (or M35 for that matter), but I gave a 2003 M45 an extensive test drive and I found it to drive too big...like a Japanese Buick.
Hopefully Infiniti has quelled some of my concerns...like tranny hesitation and body roll. I imagine the M35 is a different experience as it's obviously a V6 and not the big V8.

I think the fender bulges are cool, they set the Infiniti cars apart, and they mesh well with the curvaceous car.

So have the A6 and 5-series been “served”? We’ll have to wait for a drive in the final product before we can say for certain whether the M is a compelling alternative. But based on what we experienced with the M37, we’d say the 535i and the A6 3.0T might want to start checking their mirrors.

Wow, I love that interior...!

Gorgeous interior, personally I really like the styling cues they're taking from their Essence concept, including those fender bulges. One of my favorite looking sedans to date. Let's hope that description of it feeling sluggish is just the pre-production model... maybe they've yet to fully optimize the tune for the 5.6 in this car and haven't gotten the programming and gearing for the tranny quite right yet.

It's OK, design wise. Interior view is a bit busy from cockpit, and not much changed from the current design.
Exterior is questionable though, too curvaceous, minding me of the Taurus from the 90's. Not sure how the targeted buyers would think.
The reason to get it would still be value and probably reliability, I guess.

Whether these improvements are enough to set the 2011 M apart from the all-new BMW 5 Series, not to mention the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF, et al, remains to be seen. We'll reserve that judgment until we have the opportunity to drive production versions, which should happen sometime in February or March. One thing's for sure, though -- this segment is about to become more competitive than ever.

It's just that they don't want to, and they haven't plus with the styling direction they've gone in vs. Infiniti's direction, I'm not sure I'd care anyways.

Of course by can't, I meant won't. :P But I agree - they need to find a direction to go in. Right now they're confused as to what they want their identity to be. Infiniti is clearly aiming for sport-luxury, much like BMW (and now Audi).

If nothing else this will solidify the M as the best selling Asian mid sized luxury sedan (I don't see Lexus coming up with anything compelling for the GS).

Haha, the Lexus ES and Acura TL both outsell the M and GS . Aside from that the GS and M both sell at about the same rate (less than a thousand units per month) so it's no big deal which outsells the other. Once one of them sells at Mercedes E or BMW 5 levels then we can start talking and comparing haha.

Aw no, I always loved Infiniti's designs. But this? The front profile is a joke. Looks like some sort of cross between a Mazda, Dodge, and a cartoon. Do not want.

You might not think so but it's probably a huge deal to Infiniti - especially since the M was not even in the picture 5 years ago and the GS was selling fairly well. You can bet some marketeer will have some slogan like - best selling Asian RWD luxury sedan. It will take at least another generation to even apporach the sales volume of the 5 series and E class, but being third on that sales volume list is a big accomplishment for the Japanese luxury also-ran.

2011 Infiniti M EPA Estimates Show up to 4 MPG Increase Over 2010 Models
Infiniti today announced the official EPA mileage estimates for the 2011 Infiniti M37 and M56 sedans. Both models will go on sale next month with prices starting at $46,250 for the 2011 Infiniti M37 and $57,550 for the M56.
EPA estimated fuel-economy for the 2011 Infiniti M37 comes in at 18/26 mpg (city/highway) while the M37x will average 17/24 mpg. Infiniti says that the fuel economy estimates for the 2011 Infiniti M sedan, show an increase of up to four miles per gallon versus 2010 M models. The 2011 Infiniti M37 is powered by a 3.7L V6 that makes 330-hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The 2011 M56 is powered by a 5.6L V8 that produces 420-hp and 417 lb-ft. The 2011 M will reach Infiniti dealerships March 18.
