Absolutely. The car was doomed here when the mpg/price advantage wasn't huge and the car wasn't available with navigation.

All poor decisions.

I personally couldn't get over the fact that it only had a 1-2mpg advantage over the much more powerful G37.

Yes. This car wasn't meant for the N/A market. They planned it poorly and practically set it up for failure.

I think that's expected. Most people usually associate higher power with poor fuel economy. To an extent, that is true. The mpg losses usually come from things like heavier engine, more cylinders (4 cyl vs 6 cyl for instance) to move, and more pumping loss. On the other hand, a larger, more powerful engine in the same car doesn't work as hard as a smaller engine. The larger engine might shift up to the next gear at 2000rpm instead of 3000rpm while still having the same acceleration. Then there are some cars that have cylinder deactivating technology to shut down unnecessary cylinders. And in some cars, pumping loss has been reduced greatly (like the Civic). Given the above reasons, plus the fact that the engine in the G25 is from the same engine family as the G37, they share most part of the design and technologies. This is why engine downsizing doesn't work that well in the real world. We often see new turbocharged engines are rated better than their larger predecessors. The mpg gain doesn't just come from the turbo system, but the newer engines are also more technologically advanced (ie. DI, less friction, higher compression ratio, variable intake manifolds, start-stop tech, plus a bunch of other technologies). These newer engines are also usually mated with newer, more efficient transmission with better torque converter and gears.

For the G25, it uses the same VQ architecture and same 7AT (with may be different ratios). It also has the same aerodynamic drag and same chassis. The main differences are less weight and may be smaller rims. Another example is the Lexus IS. The IS250 is only 1 mpg more efficient than the IS350 for the combined rating, despite a 100hp deficit.

Eveyone will likely go the MB/BMW route - the lower end model will have a 4 cyl turbo to put some meanigful diff, mileage wise, between the models.

Hmm..I'm not too sure about that...

2012 328i 8AT: EPA - 23/33/26mpg
2012 335i 8AT: EPA - 23/33/26mpg

2012 C250 7AT: EPA - 21/31/25mpg
2012 C350 7AT: EPA - 20/29/23mpg (and this engine is getting old, at least not as new as the C250 one as far as I know)

The difference is not that big IMO.

So it seems that the more forward gear ratios there are available inside the tranny, the better the fuel economy.

Should be, depending on the ratios...and engine torque!

Seems to be using a similar style to the way they designed the front of the JRX...?

The new IS and C-Class are coming too. Going to be some good competition in this segment. Really looking forward to the new G.

The 3-Series is unfortunately so ugly looking in the front IMO.

First thought upon seeing front end was Nissan Maxima.

Looking good from what can be seen.

I've always felt that if the GT-R had the same exact performance but you made it G Coupe sized, I'd be all over it. But as is, do not want.

Interesting that the Altima and Maxima still seem to be going in the same styling direction as the JX and 3G G (and vice versa). While that's not a bad thing, it kind of hinders styling differentiation between lineups.

Nobody hinders styling differential then BMW. A 3,5, and 7 series look exactly the same except each one is longer than the last one.

I'd say Audi is a little more extreme than even BMW on this.

It looks like the 2014 G will be shown off at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Just 3 months or so away.

All I want in new G is a 6MT mated to that sweeeeeeeet acronym soup awd system and at least 330hp. Too much to ask?

what do you get when an angry bird hits a Camry?
G4 TL

but thanks to that, resale value on G3 has been holding well. Wish I could want a single new acura product today, but there is zero. Ok 1 - NSX.

Almost makes me wonder why I am paying mine down so quickly. I could just lease for half of my payment and get a new car every 2 years or so

Oh yeah, I don't want payments for a few years and start paying myself.

You will have a double clutch set up too in case you are used to driving moving trucks from the 70s.
