Well, how much is there a price difference between the 335 vs. the 328...?

Or the A4 3.2 vs. the A4 2.0T...?

And as the article states, it's against the 328i which it seems to hold up well against...what's with the hate?

Viva la variety.

No hate....it just makes no sense. Barely and change in MPG...but a huge power loss.
I think they really screwed the pooch on the powertrain/MPG.

....and not being able to option it out makes ZERO sense.

I imagine in the real world there will be a significant difference in mpg between the 2.5 liter and the 3.7....

The way they describe how the 2.5 is basically a shrunken version of the 3.7 it's no wonder they didn't save much money on it.

I think it's just a lower priced entry (non-CUV/SUV) to fill out the gaps in the lineup

I don't think the A4 3.2 is offered anymore, at least it wasn't last time I checked. Interestingly enough, I looked up the difference between the Q5 2.0T and Q5 3.2 and the difference is (both with the Premium Plus package) about $3000. The 2.0T is cheaper, gets better gas mileage (8AT vs. 6AT on the 3.2) too.... which is kinda weird, but whatever. Some people will pay more for an inferior V6 just to have a V6, I guess.

People will buy it because "they don't need the extra power" and because its cheaper. How many will buy it.... we'll find out.

The 3.2 was only offered on the A4 on the 2009 model. They took it away because sales were slow, because there was little if any performance difference, and because the S4 wasn't there yet in 2009. I wonder if they might do the same on the Q5, although a V6 makes a little more sense in an SUV.

And someone in the TSX forum was saying a Journey was 34K. I'd rather have a V6 TSX.

This missed the boat on this one.

Post 2013 Infinit IPL G Convertible

Press release...

The 2013 IPL G Convertible Infiniti, which is set to go on sale in spring 2012, becomes the second member of the Infiniti Performance Line of premium performance vehicles. First introduced with the dramatic IPL G Coupe, IPL’s product design philosophy focuses on “total vehicle performance,” including unique driving attributes and exclusive exterior and interior features at a highly attractive price point. The new IPL G Convertible features special aerodynamic styling pieces, the dynamic performance of an IPL-tuned V6, exhaust and suspension, 19-inch IPL aluminum-alloy wheels, and unique leather-appointed interior – along with the G Convertible’s three-piece retractable hardtop.

“The Infiniti Performance Line, as demonstrated by our first offering, the IPL G Coupe, challenges the concept of ultra-high cost sports series. IPL pushes the premium performance envelope for buyers seeking a higher level of exclusivity and driving exhilaration, but does so with an Infiniti twist,” said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. “Like every Infiniti, the new IPL G Convertible takes a different path from its established competitors, with its retractable hardtop that is designed to look as good with the top up as down. It’s a terrific addition to the Infiniti Performance Line, taking the dramatic Infiniti G Convertible to an even higher level.”

Based on the premium foundation of the Infiniti G37 Convertible, the IPL G Convertible features an advanced VQ37VHR 3.7-liter V6. The engine management system has been recalibrated through air-fuel mixture and ignition timing optimization, raising the maximum horsepower output point to 7,400 rpm. To obtain a natural acceleration feel, the torque curve from low revs to the maximum torque point (5,200 rpm) was tuned for linearity. The IPL-tuned high-flow exhaust is a full dual exhaust design with independent left and right large diameter pipes. The muffler’s inner structure and materials have been maximized to reduce pressure and provide an appropriate performance exhaust note. The result is a 30% reduction in exhaust pressure versus a base G Convertible’s Y-pipe exhaust system design.

As a result of both the exhaust system and engine management changes, the IPL G Convertible generates 343 horsepower – an increase of 18 horsepower over the non-IPL models – and 273lb-ft of torque (+6 lb-ft).

The engine is matched to an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching and quick-shift Drive Sport (DS) mode with magnesium paddle shifters and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC).

The IPL G Convertible’s enhanced dynamic vehicle performance focuses on providing confident handling, flat ride and smooth ride comfort. The IPL suspension tuning and damping management philosophy is designed to optimize each aspect of the suspension, effectively connecting the driver to the road surface while minimizing uncomfortable vibrations. Front spring rates have been increase 14% over the G Convertible Sport model and rear spring rates increased 4%. Front stabilizer spring rates have been increased 6% over the G Convertible Sport model and rear stabilizer spring rates increased 125%. Shock tuning has also been adjusted and incorporates an all-new HF-type shock.

The IPL G Convertible also offers a sport-tuned steering gear and large 4-wheel sport brakes (14-inch front, 13.8-inch rear) with aluminum-alloy opposed calipers (4-piston front/2-piston rear).

The IPL G Convertible’s unique exterior includes a dramatic front bumper/fascia design with integrated fog lights and black finishers, sculpted side sills and round chrome exhaust tips. Each part is shaped to complement the G Convertible’s elegantly seductive styling. Combined with the exclusive 19-inch IPL split 7-spoke graphite-finish wheels and low-profile W-rated Bridgestone Potenza RE050A performance tires, the IPL G Convertible embraces a road-ready attitude. The IPL G Convertible is offered in just two exterior colors: Moonlight White and Malbec Black.

The IPL G Convertible interior harmonizes with the exterior styling, offering two color treatments – Stone and IPL-exclusive Monaco Red. All IPL G Convertible interiors include red-stitched leather-appointed Climate-controlled front sport seats with embroidered IPL logos, manual thigh extension and driver’s power torso and thigh support adjustment, red-stitched steering wheel, Silk Obi aluminum trim, IPL embroidered front floor mats, and aluminum trimmed pedals and footrest.

Other standard IPL G Convertible interior features includes a 13-speaker Bose® Open Air Sound System, optimized for both top positions, with AudioPilot® 2.0 noise compensation technology and Personal® front seat headrest speakers, an Adaptive Dual Zone Climate Control that automatically adjusts fan speed and air volume based on top position, and Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster® air purifier, Infiniti Navigation System with voice recognition and available XM NavTraffic® Real-Time Traffic Information, NavWeather™ with Real-Time Weather and 3-day forecast (XM® subscription required, sold separately), Streaming Audio via Bluetooth® and Zagat Survey® Restaurant Guide and touch screen, and Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System.

Technological and convenience features include standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, Remote Keyless Entry system, a power tilt/telescoping steering column with increased travel, illuminated glove compartment and automatic temperature control. Also standard is XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately) and Rear Sonar System.

An Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor is standard, along with door-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags, front-seat mounted side-impact supplemental air bags and front seat Active Head Restraints. The rear seat includes fixed head rests with rear Pop-up Roll Bars. The G Convertible also features reinforced front side members, front pillars and body sills.

“With it’s pure IPL style and performance, and the added dimension of open-air motoring, the IPL G Convertible is a welcome addition to the Infiniti Performance Line lineup,’” added Poore. “Watch for more models joining the IPL lineup in the future.”

The 2013 IPL G Coupe is offered in one fully equipped model, the IPL G Convertible with 7-speed automatic transmission. There are no options.

Although I wouldn't spend the extra $$$ for the IPL, I think Infiniti makes one of the best looking verts out there, with the G37 body style.

Wald Black Bison G37

One of the best aftermarket jobs I've seen. More pics at link...

http://www.insideline.com/infiniti/g...initi-g37.html

TOKYO — Japanese tuner Wald International has tweaked the Infiniti G37 with an aero body kit, choice of wheels and a suspension upgrade.

The G37 package is the latest in Wald's Black Bison series. Officially, the latest package is known as the Infiniti G Sports Line Black Bison Edition.

The G37 sedan is based on the Japanese-market Nissan Skyline sedan, for which Wald also offers a variety of upgrades. For the fancier Infiniti model, Wald has designed an aero body kit that bundles a new front bumper and fascia, side skirts, deck lid spoiler and rear apron with integral diffuser. Exterior accents also include a blacked-out grille and logos, LED running lights and chrome exhaust pipes.

The G37 Black Bison can be ordered with a choice of Wald alloy wheels in diameters up to 20 inches.

In addition, Wald upfits the G37 with a sport suspension and new exhaust system.

Inside Line says: One of the prettiest cars in the Black Bison series.

The rear is definitely the best looking part of this car; however, the LED tails although factory, make it look cheap because of the spacing of the LEDs. 19's would have been more realistic for this car than 20's.

Next G to be a 2015 model?

Article:
http://www.motortrend.com/future/fut...6_in_pipeline/

Motor Trend just posted an interview with an anonymous source from Infiniti about upcoming models. One of the main focuses of the conversation is the next generation G. Says it will come out late in the summer of 2014 and will ride on the same chassis as the next gen C-Class, only stretched a few inches. The source also discloses that a high performance version is slated, and should have a twin-turbocharged V6 good for 530 hp! What do you guys think?

2014 summer as a 2015 model I guess? Whoa, then that means the current gen will have a 8-year life cycle (since 2007).....

I think that 3.7L TT engine will be similar to GT-R's engine with 100 less cc? Anyways, 530hp in a G is nice...but this part worries me:

"The 530-hp IPL-spec G will probably be priced at around the same price as the GT-R if not a fraction more. Given that the basic C63 AMG costs (in Japan) around 10 million yen, that is where the IPL will be priced, I feel."

10 mil yen is over USD$120k. We know that foreign cars in Japan are very expensive. The C63 AMG is USD$63k here. If the IPL G with 530hp is priced at around $60k, that's still a bit high considering that Infiniti doesn't have the prestige value of MB, BMW, or Lexus. It also represents a huge jump over the other G models. If it's priced at over $100k...then that's simply insane......even if it performs as well as the GT-R....after all...who would pay $100k for a G?

My guess is they will be built somewhere in NA.

I hope Infiniti hires new designers for the G.
It better not look their current/future designs.

A $60K 530hp IPL-G won't appear to be such as bad deal, when considering that the 420hp compact-size Lexus ISF is currently being sold at $62K a piece.

As long as the IPL-G present itself as the image booster for the Infiniti brand and the G model line, then it is considered purpose well served and money well spent.

When the same amount of money, used on developing the IPL-G, is spent in marketing and advertising, the image boosting effect will wane as soon as the funds run dry and the marketing effort stops. But solid marketing appearances as substantial as the IPL-G itself, will last as long as the cars still exist.

This is a (difficult) step Infiniti must make in order to help elevate it's brand image towards the recognized luxury brands, even if it means losing money on the IPL-G program.

Otherwise, it'll be just like Acura, doing nothing and not willing to take the steps crucial in boosting the brand image, and eventually ends up where it is now.

I hoping Acura and Honda hire new designers more than I am for Infiniti or Nissan b/c I don't hear the critism on their bodystyles, except on Acurzine, lol, like I do Honda and Acura all over the place.

Now if they could get who ever designed the new NSX to design everything else they would be good to go.

I was thinking the same thing and b/c of that, I'm skeptical on the timeline this source is giving MT. The G Sedan is in its 6 model year right now and is really starting to show its age. Nissan/Infiniti has usually never gone longer than 5-6 years on a design cycle. The sales of the G Sedan have been down so I can't possible figure how they could wait another 1.5 years to bring out the new/next gen G line. With the new 3 Series out, Infiniti is going to get slaughtered if they don't do something soon.

If the source was accurate and stating everything was decided on the next gen in the middle of 2011, you'd think by the end of the this year they be bringing it to production. The timeline just doesn't make sense. I was figuring the next Gen G Sedan and Coupe were going to come out as a 2013 model introduced in probably Nov or Dec of 2012.

^ yeah I was thinking a '13 would be the new G. The new 3er will always plow ahead of the others. Infiniti may be giving G's away in the next 18 months.

Oh well I don't mind my car looking "current" for a couple of more years

I had planned on checking out the new G when it came out as a possible next car, but I doubt I'm waiting until 2014 for it. That's nuts. I was hoping for a release by next year or late this year. Oh well, maybe it just made my shopping easier.

The G being based on the C-class chassis doesn't make sense either - drivetrain maybe, chassis, I don't think so.
