Meh...good for Hyundai, but still too bland in my book.

Maybe there's a reason why they have sleeping pills named Sonata...

Hyundai Motor Co.'s Sonata sedans became the seventh best-selling vehicle in the United States last month, the company said Tuesday. In November, 14,216 units of the sedans were sold, up 46.9 per cent from 9,676 a month earlier. In October, Sonata was the 17th best-selling vehicle, the company said.

"It is probably the first time that a Hyundai Motor vehicle was among the top 10 in the U.S. since the end of the 1980s, when its Excel model was selling at nearly 200,000 units a year," a Hyundai Motor official said.

The best-selling vehicle in November was Toyota Motor Corp.'s Camry, which was sold 29,707 units. The Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic trailed with 23,718 and 23,695 units, respectively.

The Honda Accord was the fourth best-selling model with 23,548 units sold, the company said.

The new Sante Fe looks great. And what sort of surprised me at Detroit was how the Sonata and Azera's interior materials, build and quality (not layout) were IMO and in the opinion's of the people I was with better than the Accord and far better than the new Camry. I'd buy one.

Sonata sales for December 2005 were 20,853, so I can only imagine its ranking went up as well.

Hyundai Motor America Sets a New Annual Sales Record for the 5th Consecutive Year

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America

December 2004 and an 8.7 percent improvement over 2004's record sales.
"We are very pleased with our fifth consecutive record-setting year in
2005 and our seventh straight year of year-over-year sales improvement," said
Mark Barnes, vice president, National Sales. "The new Azera, which was

I have thoroughly enjoyed the more recent Hyundai's. I almost considered a Tiburon SE GT-V6 for a while because it was quite an attactive looking car. Too bad the drivetrain didn't exactly sparkle.

I think with some more effort put into their drivetrain development, Hyundai could really give the Japanese Big-Three a run for their money.

Great time to buy the new generation of the S. Korean cars, the transaction costs are still WAY low but they are now great cars. The resale will likely go up and the true cost to own will be likely really low after 4-5 years. Does anyone know how well they deal with warranty issues, it is one thing to have a LONG warranty but means nothing is service is terrible and getting things done is like pulling teath.

when the tiburon gets 250+ hp, runs 0-60 under 5.5 seconds, watch out big 3. hyundai will be a serious serious company, not only to the mass, but to a fast and furious generation

Hyundai Sonata SXi Concept

it would be nice to have a sonata sports package

Presented to gauge interested in a possible sporty model, Hyundai unveiled its Sonata SXi concept in Sydney this week. Powered by the optional 3.3-liter V6 in stock form, the SXi features an upgraded suspension, a brake upgrade with red-painted calipers, new wheels and tires, and a very subtle body kit that add skirts to the car's flanks and rear bumper, as well as a new lip spoiler up front. A decklid spoiler rounds things out.

In front, the top part of the grille surround is now a red line (think VW GTI). The interior, which we unfortunately don't have photos of yet, features silver trim, black leather and red contrast stitching. According to Australia's drive.com.au, this car could hit the market in the next year or so.

Hmmm ... queues from VW / Audi. BBS-style mesh rims.

Do you think there's some possible Teutonic influence with this car?

stock 3.3L v6? yikes. That thing needs to be upgraded a bit more to seperate it from a normal trim sonata! Otherwise, not too shabby.

Looks nice, but my problem is the interior. If they got that as good as Honda, I'd be a lot more willing to consider one.

Wow...talk about a huge leap in the right direction. They really studied the last gen Honda Accord for the ergonomics because they mirrored the Accord almost exactly in terms of button placement.

Does look much better, fixing the radio (which looked added on to me) was big in itself. Looks like a RX homage to me, which makes sense considering they claim to be chasing Lexus. FYI that is the 2009 refresh not 2008 which remains the same as 2007 in general looks.
