There are two postulates at C&D ... The first is BMW uber alles. The second is that Honda is never wrong.

also, not every hondas are the most expensive in its segment. malibu costs more than accord, prius costs more than insight. sienna costs more than odyssey, and civic isn't the most expensive small cars. and doesn't matter how much more honda charges. at the end of the day, Honda competes with toyota, hyundai, ford, and nissan of the world. Honda is not BMW or MB. they are mainstream. they are volume sellers. if they are confident enough to charge more than toyota, ford, and hyundai good for them. but i wouldn't be too confident since honda never really gained market share while other major players gotten better every year. honda to me was stuck in the 2nd gear for a while. to get out of this funk, honda needs to get back to what they know best. delivering us good engineered cars with good non-offensive design is a start. i want the good looking hondas/acuras back. also, i want RL to be competitive. people don't even buy RL anymore. even hyundai sells more genesis than RL and it's friggin hyundai! I always liked legend. first gen RL wasn't too bad. but just saw RL few days ago(rarely see them anymore), and it made me very sad. you can't possibly compete against germans, lexus, and infiniti with cars like RL. and now honda knows that acura is nowhere near 1st-tier, so they are repositioning the brand to 'smart luxury'

what? did they just say smart luxury? that got me worried and made me sadder. all they had to do was design the RL right. TL/TSX was great until they messed with success. MDX is still good, and RDX isn't half bad. but ZDX was moronic. it is so frustrating. it drives me crazy. i wanted my next car to be acura.

yes, there will always be honda homers like you. like all other brands, there are loyalists. My buddy is VW loyalists even after 2 electronic gremlin infested jettas. i once was very loyal to honda/acura. but I opened my eyes and looked around brands like hyundai and even Ford. just 10 years ago I swore that i would never buy a domestic or korean cars. but things changed. sure i still love all Germans, but i have family and house comes first. so i'm more interested in the mainstream than luxury today.

there will be many people like myself that who will look else where if honda/acura continues to give us TL/CRZ/insight/ZDX/crosstour like disappointments. Read any reviews on these cars, and most likely they will say something like 'if you can look past the design... you might like it...' comments. i know these cars aren't aztek ugly, but Jesus, honda/acura never used to offend anyone.

I recently sat on Crosstour. it summarizes Honda's last 3 years. It's impossible to sit in the back without your head touching the roof, visibility is the worst i can remember, and front 4 grill design is extremely awkward. worst part is the rear design which gave me a very strange vibe. only decent thing about this was the accord interior. was Crosstour necessary? was that a financial decision? i don't know. but i'm saddened by it because most likely it will scare alot of new buyers.

on a bright side, companies like Hyundai/Ford continues to listen to consumers and make cars that we want. Hyundai is considering R-spec Genesis. soon they will give us Veloster(will have a new name) and it won't be as wimpy as CRZ. new Ford mustang v6 gets 19/31 mpg.

when will honda ever listen to us? i've done defending Honda 2 years ago. maybe you should too.
Great post. No one is hating Honda here, almost all of us bought a Honda car for a reason...But doesn't mean Honda is cleared from any criticism. Fact is companies like Hyundai are putting consumer feedbacks on top of its priority which explains why they're having so much success these days while others are not resulting in lower sales. People need to get past the stigma and understand that Hyundai isn't what they use to be 20 years ago, times change.!

anyways, love the sonata!

Just the Facts:
The base 2013 Hyundai Sonata gets a $1,100 price increase over the outgoing base model.
The midsize sedan segment war heated up on Tuesday with Hyundai accusing the 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Nissan Altima of "borrowing pages from the Sonata playbook."
The 2013 Sonata ranges in price from $21,670 for the GLS model to $28,370 for the Sonata Limited with a 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
COSTA MESA, California — The base 2013 Hyundai Sonata gets a $1,100 price increase over the outgoing base model as the midsize sedan segment war heated up on Tuesday with Hyundai accusing the 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Nissan Altima of "borrowing pages from the Sonata playbook." The 2013 Sonata is on sale now.

The 2013 Sonata ranges in price from $21,670 for the GLS model to $28,370 for the Sonata Limited with a 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. Pricing includes a $775 shipping charge. Hyundai eliminated the base GLS with a 6-speed manual transmission from the 2013 Sonata lineup. The base 2012 Sonata GLS started at $20,570, including shipping.

The base 2013 Sonata is equipped with a 2.4-liter GDI 4-cylinder engine linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai went on the offensive on Tuesday, issuing a press release with the headline of "Bring It" aimed at "the new crop of midsize competitors."

"The midsize segment is more competitive than ever, with new competitors like the soon-to-be launched 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Nissan Altima borrowing pages from the Sonata playbook with improved fuel economy and design," said Hyundai.

The Korean automaker said the Sonata "sent competitors back to the drawing board."

In a telephone response to a query from Inside Line, Nissan spokesman Dan Bedore said: "The midsize segment is the heart of the market in U.S. There's a lot of action there. 9 months ago, the Sonata was the newest car in segment. 9 months from now, it will be the oldest. Constant improvement is what we're all trying to accomplish. Nissan's response is the 2013 Altima."

Ford did not respond immediately to an Inside Line request for a comment on the Hyundai statement.

Automakers in this critical segment often try to one-up each other, but it is fairly unusual for them to mention competitors by name.

On April 9, Nissan boasted about the 2013 Altima's "class-leading 38 mpg" in a statement — but did not mention the Sonata. The fuel-economy numbers can be a make-or-break-it element for consumers, especially those shopping for family cars. The 2013 Sonata lags behind the Altima with a 35-mpg highway rating. The EPA has not yet rated the 2013 Ford Fusion.

The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Tuesday said the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. stood at $3.76 versus $3.96 a year ago.

The 2013 Altima will come out of the gate in June with a higher price tag than Sonata. The new Altima will start at $22,280, including shipping. Pricing for the 2013 Fusion has not yet been announced.

The 2013 Sonata is a carryover model with a few upgrades, including the addition of heated seats as standard equipment to all models and packages except the base GLS model. Options on the 2013 Sonata include an $825 GLS Popular Equipment package that bundles such items as 16-inch alloy wheels, foglights, a power driver seat with lumbar support and chrome interior door handles. A $2,900 Limited Premium package on Sonata includes a panoramic sunroof, navigation system, rear back-up camera and Infinity premium speakers and stereo components.

Inside Line says: Which side are you taking in this battle?

No doubt, you have all heard about the sudden acceleration problems that plagued the Toyota Group, mainly in North America, for a couple of years. Now, a driver is putting the blame of a car crash that occurred this past Sunday, May 6, 2012, in the South Korean city of Daegu, on a sticky accelerator. The said car is the latest generation Hyundai Sonata YF sedan.

What makes this incident of particular interest is that it was captured on film by a dashboard mounted camera in the Sonata, which is something we don't remember seeing before in crashes relating or alleged to be related to sticky accelerator pedals.

The 30-second long clip shows the Korean sedan stopped at a light with a previous generation Hyundai standing in front when the Sonata appears to accelerate. At this point, we hear a conversation from the driver and passengers as well as a sound that may or may not be from the handbrake being lifted.

From there on, the Korean sedan appears to accelerate uncontrollably with the driver passing several red lights, narrowly avoiding a couple of crashes only to end up rear-ending a stopped car at a speed of 117km/h (72mph) - at least according to the GPS data displayed on the video.

Korean news sites said that the Daegu Nambu Police is investigating the accident and has asked the National Institute of Scientific Investigation for help.

Any assistance from our Korean readers to translate what is being said in the video, would be appreciated.

If it's the "latest generation Hyundai Sonata YF sedan," then it should have a brake over-ride system.

Hmm. First report of such an incident with this particular model, and there happens to be a dashcam (with sound) recording at the time.

In Asia, it is very very common(90%+) to have a dashboard mount cam on whenever you are driving.

It is about $50 usd with 8GB overwrite HD video cam that turns on by itself whenever you start the car.

It is not for fun, it is absolutely necessary to have it for insurance/accident claim. 99% of us will not be able to drive in Asia.

Looks like a car from GTA. Super bland, and could be anything. Speaking of which; the next gen. Genesis looks exactly like the fake BMW 7 Series in GTA V. The current generation Sonata and Genesis look better IMO.

The Mazda 6 is sexy, the Fusion stands out, the Accord Sports looks decent all around, and at least the current Sonata was bold.

I guess my eyes see things better, or differently than yours. I dont see bland, (from what we can see) especially compared to what you just compared it to. And i bet Hyundai wont venture far from this rendering as opposed to Acura who has neutered the TLX and has made a Bland car.

Different strokes for different folks I guess
Just looks really generic to me. Maybe I've been playing GTA too much because this looks like one of the generic cars from there.

Getting a little butthurt I see. Its funny; when you have nothing to say, you simply resort to attacking the person who has a different opinion then you.

You mean the Accord that looks like the outgoing Genesis sedan from the side/rear?

Anyway, doesn't really matter since the Optima, Fusion and Mazda6 are still the segment leaders when it comes to sheetmetal.
