A few of the comments from here:

http://wot.motortrend.com/6583689/au...oul/index.html

It's not just the on AZine saying it reminds them of something.....

AstnMrtn007 (Yesterday 02:37 PM)

It's the child of a Mercedes CLS and Toyota Solara. Not bad... Just not original, either.
lbc2003 (Yesterday 12:41 PM)

I like the rear and side angle view, but I'm not sold on the view from the front, which is too Chrysler Sebring/Toyota Solara. Sometimes designs grow, so we'll see, and have to see how it looks in person. The interior is really nice.

I think the Japanese makers should be scared, because this is more similar to their offerings than the American or European.
Inyurahsya (Yesterday 12:31 PM)

Front end, tail light and side creasts reminds me of a Toyota Solara.

^^ Check out all the Toyota comments on Leftlanenews as well.

...but we are all

There are no Toyota design influences in the Sonata

...and again design influences are a bad thing because?

It looks good. The grille looks a bit like the way Honda has gone here in Japan.

And the interior does look good, with hints of Infinity/Nissan, Volvo, and Cadillac. Overall, a very good looking car. Far better than Toyota's offerings.

Wow, you do? You think when people talk about influences in car design it's because they're trying to make up for insecurity with their manhood? Did you just read the back cover of one of Freud's books while browsing your dad's bookshelf while he left you home alone? Naughty naughty!

Exactly. Who gives a fuck if it looks like a Toyota or CLS or whatever. It combined the styling cues in a way that looks better than the bland shit Toyota and Honda have been putting out for the past two decades. Personally, I think this Sonata executes the wannabe CLS look better than the VW CC.

You want to talk about copying, how about the fact that virtually every generation of Lexus LS looked like the previous older generation Mercedes S-class. Now THAT was lame - b/c every new LS looked old the moment the next gen Mercedes S-class came out.

Cool v6

According to a report by Wards, Hyundai Motor America will not offer a V6 engine in its next-generation Sonata mid-sized sedan lineup. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata will go on sale in the United States early next year.

Instead, the new Sonata will be offered with Hyundai’s new 2.4L Theta II GDI 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 175-hp and returns an estimated fuel-economy of 22/32 mpg (city/highway). All engines will be mated to a 6-speed automatic.

The new 2011 Hyundai Sonata for the U.S. market is expected to debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show in January.

Wards said that Hyundai is also nixing the V6 engine from its Tucson Crossover model.

That can't be right. Unless they have a 4 cylinder turbo as an option.

What probably happened is that 90% of the buyers for the last-gen picked the I4.

And why does this photo look totally different from the one on the previous page? Is this a Genesis with a revised grille?

^ I disagree. The roof-line, headlights, the line with the door handles, and the mirrors all look different. They're similar....but different.

didn't pure adrenaline say that the grille was going to be a lot more toned down?

good looking car. that picture's certainly a lot less agressive than the previous pics. i dunno which one i like better right now.

it is an odd move to not offer a v6. i can see the majority of current sonata owners having the four cylinder.

Post AutoBlog

Just a few days ago we saw the first images of the all-new Hyundai Sonata as it was introduced in South Korea. The Korean press release only mentioned two powertrain options, a 2.0-liter four cylinder and a 2.4-liter direct-injected four. No reference was made to a V6 such as the one offered in the current-generation Sonata. Ward's reports that they have been told even the North American-market Sonata will go four-cylinder only.

The current Sonata V6 only accounts for just 15 percent of total sales, and with the DI engine becoming standard in the new model, the larger engine likely be even less popular. We checked with Hyundai spokesman Dan Bedore, who responded "We have officially declined to comment further on that report." Bedore did tell us that further announcements would be coming at either the Los Angeles or Detroit Auto Show when the US model is revealed. The one thing we do know for sure is that a Sonata hybrid is coming later in 2010.

The car looks huge so I'm guessing it will weigh 3600+. they'd be nuts not to offer a version with more than 175HP.

Its too bad too because the red one looks awesome. The white one, however, is I never liked the Solara the first time they made it when it was called a Toyota...

Looks like Hyundai sells about 130K Sonata's per year in the US. 15% being V6's means about 20K. Not a small figure by any means.

That's 20k potential buyers that will jump ship to a competitor that offers a V6. Not sure what Hyundai is thinking.

It seems the common theme with car makers these days is pushing customers away.
