You haven't probably seen the Hyundai Santa Fé much on the streets yet. Don't expect that to change... Only three years after the introduction of the mid-size SUV, the Korean manufacturer will present the successor of the car at the Detroit Show in January 2004. Code-named JM, the car will be a sister model to Kia's future replacement of the Sportage. Both cars are currently developed together.
Different from the car it replaces, the new JM lacks the soft curves and round edges but features a very modern design, with clear lines and sharp edges, though it retains the indicated wings and other characteristic features of the Santa Fé.
Not much changes under the bonnet: the current model's 2.0-litre entry-level unit with 136 HP will be used again for the JM, followed by a more potent four-cylinder with a capacity of 2.4 litres and an output of 150 HP. Further up will come the known 2.7-litre V6 with 170 HP. However, the current 112-HP turbodiesel might be replaced by the stronger 2.9-litre common rail turbodiesel, probably de-tuned to 135 HP. @Automedia

Spy Shots: 06 Hyundai Santa Fe - - Losing the quirksand growing, too. - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection

By the end of 2005 Hyundai will release the new Santa Fe model. It will replace the current Santa Fe, which has been on the market since 2001. Prototypes of the new car are being tested these days on the German autobahn as well as on snow and frozen lakes in Northern Scandinavia
With the new Hyundai Tucson filling the role of compact SUV in the model lineup, Hyundai is now free to grow the Santa Fe in size and move it up to compete with larger SUVs like the Nissan Murano and Toyota Highlander. The increased size will allow the Santa Fe to have a third row of seats for the first time. The new Santa Fe will be built on a platform that is shared with the new Hyundai Sonata sedan.
Styling is all-new and ditches the quirky looks of the current Santa Fe in favor of a modern, bold look with a very large, forward-sloping grille. Fenders sweep back towards the front wheels, making the front end more rounded and adding emphasis to the grille.
The photos are showing disguised prototypes that were photographed in Germany, as well as a computer image of how the car is expected to look like upon its release.

Hyundai has been on a new-product blitz, bringing to market one new vehicle after another. So far Hyundai has introduced the Tucson and the Sonata, and has put out official information on the Azera.
Still to come is an all-new Hyundai Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle. These photos capture a prototype Santa Fe without any front-bumper disguise, thus giving us a clear view of the SUV's new looks.

The new Santa Fe will be built on a platform that is shared with the new Hyundai Sonata sedan, and the Santa Fe will also be built in Hyundai's new plant in Montgomery, Alabama.
Styling is fresh and ditches the voluptuous looks of the current Santa Fe in favor of a look with a large, forward-sloping grille. The rounded shape of the front end gives the new Santa Fe a unique design by eliminating the typical protruding bumper used on every other SUV.

I bought my two Acuras for their value play. Japanese cars are about value and reliability. If Koreans can beat them at their own game, I'd buy them. I'll wait until it's not a joke to own a Korean car and also when their performance is noteworthy and awe inspiring. I'd like to see a performance car from Hyundai. Being Korean-American, I'd buy a car w/...
1. 250+ HP, V6 engine
2. <3200 lbs curb weight
3. Seats 4+
4. Costs ~$24,000
5. Has Navi
6. Looks good, not like the cheesy Tiburon (I liked it when I was in HS, not when I'm 28)
They have to stop catering to the cheap Americans (not many Koreans will buy Hyundai, my parents own a Elantra ONLY because they won it from a newspaper for free).
Start designing it with classic style instead of Voltron looking lines. Each car unfortunately has it's own style. At least Acura's boring style is consistent across the board.
Hyundai needs to pick something to excel at. Value doesn't excite ppl. They need to be THE BEST at something. Lots of HP with ugly plastic interior like Infiniti, driving fun and nice balance like BMW, stately style and stability like Audi, prestige and luxury and performance like Mercedes, performance driving like Porche, sexy performance like Ferrari, aggressive penis penetration of a car like Lamborgini, something distinguising to make it exciting.

I think we have another winner for Hyundai

As much as I hate Hyundai, that actually looks good. Has a bit of the Sonata in it, which suggests to me that they're trying to build a true brand here, with consistent styling cues and what not. Still has a little bit of the Subaru Outback though.

Hyundai Drops Entourage, Plans Six-Seater Crossover - - Source: The Car Connection
Hyundai announced abruptly last week that it would not rebadge the upcoming Kia Sedona minivan and sell it as its own Entourage family hauler. Instead, the company says it will depend on the new seven-seater Santa Fe SUV and a six-passenger crossover vehicle yet to come to serve as its people movers. The new SUV, which will be sized roughly the same as the Honda Pilot, goes into production in Alabama in late 2006 and will be powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 teamed with a six-speed automatic. The crossover will be patterned after the Portico concept shown at the most recent Chicago auto show and is due in 2008. "We've been encouraged by the response to the Portico concept vehicle we showed in Chicago this year, and the design team has continued to make great progress, so we're accelerating the development of the production version," said Bob Cosmai, president of Hyundai's American operations.

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe launches in Korea
http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000490069248
Little information other than what we can glean from the pictures, but what we can see shows that the new Santa Fe is a huge improvement over the current version. Hyundais Santa Fe-dedicated website is here (warning - lots of Flash). Autoblog reader Source1 reports that a Hyundai dealer told him that we can expect two engines, a 3.3-liter putting out 240-250 hp, and a 3.8-liter with 275-285 hp.

Hyundai continues to roll. Personally, the design doesn't move me; but I have a feeling it'll move alot of people toward buying one. Lots of Azera cues. Very nice move using both the Azera and Sonata's V6s.

im loving the direction hyundai is moving into. definitly improving fast and stealing alot of customers from the more pricey japanese competitors.
the new sante fe is definily different and sure looks pretty comfy and luxurious. alot of neat stuff for something thats gonna cost half of what it looks.

I wonder how user friendly their nav system will be. Mazda's really sucks and Honda is the best that I've seen. Hopefully they will at least have touch screen. Still don't think I could do the Hyundai name, but it looks damn good.

It looks good in that burgundy color. I'm not a big fan of the red piping on the seats. The third row looks like a kid only zone, and it looks like the only way to get back there will be to fold down a second row seat. Definitely loving the Korean chicks, though. That one in the black pinstripe suit with glasses is hawt.

Somebody help me understand this:
Why are all of the buttons written in english (ie power outlet, mode, a/c, temp, etc.) but the warning label on the visor is in (korean, chinese, or whatever it is) as is the text on the navi screen?

Its not a production vehicle. Its a mish mash of available parts.

Hyundai and Kia remid me of Toyota in the 70s. They sold cheap transportation and quickly morphed into a power house. Once H&K are able to shed their bargain basement stigma, I think they will be real players.
