The sizzle in the Steak
This just in: Hyundai leapfrogs Acura in lux-sedan sales. Acura is now a relic of the past.

DAMN. I looked at the updated www.the-genesis.co.kr just now with the full features and techs info/pics. Just WOW. At least they are par with most lux brands in features if not better considering the price.
Few things I was surprised to see...
-Water proof front door glass
-Solar control glass
-Rear electronic curtain
-Front blind-spot camera + rear backup camera (2 cameras up front, 1 camera in the back)
-ECM outside/inside mirror (at night)
-17 speaker Lexicon sound
-DMB (it's mobile satellite tv)
and more...
go check it out guys.. detailed explanations are in Korean, but you can nav through different pictures and etc since they are in English.
It's highly questionable all these things are gonna come to US market or not. Knowing how it's done in the past, it's not likely, especially if you look at the price difference of Genesis in Korea vs US.

It could happen. If the Genesis lives up to the hype it's going to force everyone to up their ante.
A couple of things pop out at me:

What's Edmunds' take?
It has all the right specs and a competitive price, but it's the little things that separate real luxury cars from the posers. We'll see if the Genesis has what it takes after some time behind the wheel. — Ed Hellwig, Senior Editor

Although the initial specs are very impressive.

the first chop beltfred posted makes me want to go out and make a deposit on one today :wow:
and i don't think this car will torpedo the g8 at all...pontiac isn't really touted as a "luxury" car, they're more performance with some luxury thrown in for good measure.

I do agree that the ready-made G8 market (mainly domestic V8 guys) would be highly unlikely to cross-shop Hyundai, but that's a small subset of the targeted customer demo. Pontiac needs to sell to more than just GM die-hards.
Anyway, the G8 is just one example...Hyundai has its sights set on bigger fish than Pontiac.

Some dude
At first I didn't like the way the car looked (especially with the grill) but those chops make it look real good.
for Hyundai.
for Acura for getting leapfrogged by Hyundai to the V8 RWD market.

Are we here getting the slip end of the stick in the US
I am so mad right now I can hardly contain myself. Why is it that on Hyundai's website for the Genesis and all the pics taken on other websites, I do not see nor hear any mention of a starter button, backseat controls for the rear seats nor a tv, raise/lowering height clearance of the vehicle, and only see two buttons on the shift coloumn instead of six for the American version of the Genesis? What gives? Are we, the American market, on the crap list of the world which includes GM? 2008 Chinese Buick Park Avenue anyone? What is so wrong with our country that we can not receive the same treatment as every other country when it comes to high feature and cool vehicles without having to pay top TOP dollar for them? What!?!

Also consider that the Genesis will sell for nearly 10,000 USD less in the U.S. than the KDM version. Many options will have to be forfeited to offer it at a lower price. Otherwise a $50,000 Genesis will not possess the competitiveness it needs in the U.S. market.

Lets go back (how far? Back in time... lol) to the 90s, during the time when there existed (perhaps) the greatest level of production Japanese sports cars in the U.S.. THink about all the cars that most car enthusiasts have come to love, and if not love, then at least have come to respect. I'm talking about the last gen Supra, last gen RX-7, the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR6.
Back then, import car makers offered top of the line products here in the American market, a twin turbo supra, twin turbo RX-7, and an AWD vr6 3000gt, were all considered superb sports cars, and America actually got to see them on showroom floors.
But many Americans simply could not justify paying the cost for these great cars: All of the cars in their top form ranged from 45-50k (maybe even more) new off the lot. Sure you could get a stripped down version for much less, but again, people refused to pay 30k for a non turbo supra, RX-7, and 3000gt.
So what happened?
All the companies began to lose money; it was no longer cost efficient to offer such vehicles in their line up, since the cars cost too much to build considering the lower amount of sales.
Thus, Toyota Discontinued the Supra, Mazda discontinued the RX-7, and Mitsubishi discontinued the 3000gt. And Toyota has yet to reintroduce a Supra, Mazda made an RX-8 (which I believe is a great sports car due to it's handling abilities, but fails due to the lack of horsepower) and Mitsubishi turned out the Evolution which sells for cheaper than what a 3000gt VR6 sold for.
Why is Toyota reluctant to offer a new Supra, and Mitsubishi a new 3000gt vr6? Because they offered top of the line products before and the american public was simply not interested.
Why is Hyundai not offering top of the line options? Because they look at those previous experiences of Toyota with the SUpra, Mazda with the RX-7, and Mitsubishi with the 3000gt. Hyundai looks at those examples and understands that their is a great risk when pricing a car far above their normal price range, and from the examples above, they do not want to lose money like those companies did.
So before you bitch about the import car companies refusing to give us all the goodies, look at history. Every company that offered "top of the line" vehicles were met with the harsh reality that the majority of the american public refused to pay for such vehicles.
Hyundai is smart for not offering everything possible; this way a decked out Genesis will probably come in under $40k. And 40k today may seem a bit more reasonable for what their offering, than what a Supra Twin Turbo offered for $45k back in the day.
