2011 Hyundai Elantra (Avante) Revealed In Busan

The new generation of Hyundai Elantra, also known as Avante in some markets, has been unveiled during the Busan Motor Show in Korea revealing a much better design than before along with new engine and technologies. Following the new ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language, the 2011 Elantra also features a sleek and curvy body which is not that pretty to be honest but comparing to the old models, it’s a huge improvement.

The all-new Elantra is powered by the latest editoin of Hyundai’s 1.6L Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection engine which delivers 140 hp. This front-wheel-drive car comes with an automatic six-speed gearbox and it’s said to be 10 percent more fuel efficient. Apart from direct injection, this engine also features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, a Variable Induction System and exotic anti-friction coatings such as CrN Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating and Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating.

The new Elantra also comes with a rich list of equipments and features which is not common for a compact sedan. It includes HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster.

Pricing and availability of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra for different markets will be announced later.

Good thing they didn't take the sonata grille...

i notice the USDM sonata has different grille than the original KDM one... the shape and form stayed the same, but only outter ones are chromed and the inner ones are body color matched

anyways.. i think this car looks good for its class...

It looks great. Better than the competition, except for maybe the Cruze, IMHO. Stealing that Audi design boss was the smartest move Hyundai could have made... his pen's been on fire.

this looks better than Sonata but
full model change in 4 years. It is not good for resale value of current Elantra owners. 2007-2011 is too short.

How is 4 years too short? Many cars run on a 4-5 year cycle with a refresh in 2.

We are going to be busy. Yay and boo.

P.S. Red is beautiful on the YF, but not quite on the UD. Still looks good, though.

Engine Made In China? there will be two problems. one is quality control and second Chinese are going to copy the engine. Japanese kept for 40 years Engine/transmission tech spreading around.

http://english.chosun.com/site/data/...051100824.html

Hyundai Motor to Produce New Avante in U.S. Hyundai Motor plans to expand its production capacity in the U.S. by adding a compact model to a production line.

A Hyundai spokesman said Monday that the automaker will begin producing the new Avante at its Alabama plant, which currently produces the Sonata sedan and Santa Fe SUV, in April 2011, with production volume of up to 150,000 units per year.

Production of the new Santa Fe, due to hit the market in the middle of next year, will move to a plant in Georgia, operated by Hyundai's sister company Kia Motors.

So far Hyundai has produced only the Sonata sedan and the Santa Fe in the U.S. Its compact models sold in the U.S. such as the Avante and Verna have all been produced in Korea.

The move will drastically reduce exports of Hyundai's Korean plants. Last year the company shipped 103,000 units of the Avante to the U.S., accounting for half of its overall U.S. exports.

Hyundai apparently believes that producing the Avante in the U.S. plant will be more cost effective and boost production efficiency and product quality.

Hyundai will install engines produced in China in the U.S.-made Avante for the first time. It says the use of Chinese-made engines shows that it regards China not only as a market but also an exporting base.

The U.S.-made Avante will use Hyundai's newly developed Nu engine produced by its auto parts affiliate Hyundai-Wia, which is building a plant in Riahzo, China to prepare for U.S. exports. The plant is slated to be completed by the end of July this year and will produce 150,000 Nu engines a year.

don't be shortsighted. by 2020 there will be more plants, cars, dealerships in china than entire north america combined. Hyundai isn't just interested in NA market. China will be Hyundai's biggest market this decade. India will become 2nd biggest. by 2020 population of china/india should be 3 billion combined! They better build plants, and they better work together with indians/chinese.

BRIC is the new money maker. Hyundai has plants in 3 already and is building a new plant in the fourth.

Lightbulb Interior

By Mark Kleis

Earlier this year, Hyundai used its home-market Busan Motor Show to unveil the replacement for its world-market Elantra, but the Korean automaker kept its interior an official secret.

We had spy photos of the Elantra’s interior – and of its still-unreleased 3-door hatchback variation – months ago, but Hyundai has just now released one production image of the new car’s dashboard.

Known domestically as the Avante, the new sedan follows closely in the automaker’s more shapely style language recently introduced in the all-new Sonata – both inside and out.

Introduced just days after Hyundai took the wraps off of its sub-Avante Verna (known in North America as the Accent), the Avante was by far the biggest premier at the Busan auto show.

Expected to go on sale in early Fall in South Korea, we’ll likely have to wait a few months before Hyundai unveils the North American-specification Elantra.

In Korea, the Elantra replacement is powered by Hyundai’s latest 1.6-liter direct-injected Gamma-series four-cylinder, the Avante also features a new six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai says the motor is good for about 138 horsepower and will help the sedan be about 10 percent more efficient than its rivals, which include the Mazda Mazda3, Honda Civic and Ford Focus.

Look for the production world-market Elantra’s formal debut to likely occur in late September at the Paris Motor Show, with a North American on-sale date of late 2010 or early 2011 as either a 2011 or 2012 model. We don’t expect many styling changes between the North American variant and the Korean domestic market Avante, although North America is slated to receive a 200-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder as the top powertrain offering.
