Hyundai: Elantra / i30 News

"DETROIT - Hyundai Motor Co. said Friday it's recalling about 120,000 2004- and 2005-model Elantra sedans because of a software problem with its air-bag system.

The automaker said it acted voluntarily in response to a crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety."

DEI is back!!!

Whiskers 12-17-2004 05:46 PM

Looks like just a minor update is needed. Still, why bother with a Hyundai.

:dunno:

I definitely would not buy a Hyundai.

MemRheins 12-17-2004 07:09 PM

Ive seen an Excusion park on a Elantra hood... and besides that its a POS car...defenutly would never buy one

heyitsme 12-17-2004 07:21 PM

Hyundais newer cars look quite nice and considering most people only keep a car for 3 years, I can't see there being many problems considering their high initial quality ratings the last couple years.

Both Hyundai and its wholly owned companion brand, Kia, know it takes plenty of pre-production testing to work out the bugs on any new vehicle. That's why they test their new vehicles all over the globe, in all kinds of weather, and on all kinds of roads. And the results are starting to show, with Hyundai getting outstanding results in recent vehicle-quality surveys.

The extent of their testing is shown in these latest shots of a 2007 Hyundai Elantra undergoing testing - with the car in nearly final form a full two years before going into production. This kind of years-long testing program is hugely expensive, but saves money in the long run by eliminating costly product defects and reducing the company's warranty costs.

The new Elantra appears larger than the current Elantra that it will replace, and it has more modern styling with a more rounded roofline and a higher beltline.

The photos give a clear view of the Elantra from front and rear, revealing its styling and clearly showing the dual exhausts, alloy wheels, and fog lights on this deluxe model.

It seems as though the Elantra is moving upmarket.

AsianRage 12-30-2004 05:39 PM

Year long testing program.... wonder if Acura would even do the same thing for new cars... :( :dunno:

I'm impressed and it gives me confidence in a fast moving company with what looks like a strong lineup in the next 3 years. The car itself looks conservative, kinda bland, smaller version of the 05 sonata. Hyundai doesn't seem to be in the sporty marketing phase other companies are trying to get back into.

nice.....

this will sell big just like the new sonata

chungkopi 04-12-2006 04:42 PM

kinda boring, but much better than the previous version and it's roomier than acura TL!

a very attractive package under 15k.

titan 04-12-2006 06:06 PM

I like the looks of it. It's amazing how all of these "small" cars have grown to make room for even smaller cars. I like the looks of it more than the Corolla, Civic, and Cobalt. It's about what and what with the Sentra, IMO. Ofcourse, I'm just talking subjectively about looks here...

It's a major story. Today's Altima and 1998's Altima are fairly different, and that allows for a larger Sentra that does not too closely resemble a 1995 Sentra [thankfully].

Precisely. Also, look at the Camrys and Accords or old, compared to what we have today. They've all come a long way.

DownUnder 04-13-2006 12:52 AM

It looks a lot better then what I expected, and it looks much more nicer then the '07 Sentra.

West6MT 04-13-2006 01:04 AM

Wow, that looks pretty good. Hyundai continues to impress me.

a safely designed midsize under 15k? a home run. size matters in america.

i think this will eat up corolla's pie.

What's wrong with it? The amount of detail on that steering wheel in a 14K car is pretty decent. Look at some of the others in this price range...all you get is an emblem.

n3ok318 04-14-2006 11:22 AM

it looks like they rebadged to Hyundai on TSX's steering wheel

Moog-Type-S 04-14-2006 11:57 AM

...like a broken record.....ANOTHER sure fire hit for Hyundai.
