Maybe it'd look better without the red reflector strip connecting the tail lights?

Idk how people can call it ugly, when it just looks like a larger Sonata..unless you of course find the Sonata ugly. The rear, and surely I will put on my flamesuit for this one, even reminds me of the back of a (sans reflector) Maserati Granturismo with the tail light cluster. I mean that in a good way.

I assume Azera will continue to occupy the $25K - 32K range. But in looking at the Hyundai car portfolio below (sans Azera), I can't help but think it will steal some Sonata Turbo and Genesis V6 sales...especially considering it looks so similar, the front fascia at least, to the Sonata.

Sonata (starting $19,200)
Sonata Turbo (starting $24,200)
I-4 Genesis Coupe (starting $22,300)
V6 Genesis Coupe (starting $26,800)
V6 Genesis Sedan (starting $33,000)
V8 Genesis Sedan (starting $43,200)
Equus (starting an estimated $58,900)

I guess the formula works for Toyota with the Camry/Avalon/ES and Ford with the Fusion/Taurus/MKZ, but the difference here is that a Toyota buyer has the option of buying a higher brand in Lexus and the Ford buyer in Lincoln; I'm not convinced Hyundai can successfully sell all three (Sonata/Azera/Genesis) on the same lot...

Wow. Hyundai is really taking Bangle's "flame-surfacing" to new heights. Too bad he never implemented his own design language as well as the Korean "copycats"...

It's a little funny because I think BMW's are now starting to move away from the flame-surfacing. There are very little traces left of the polarizing look in the newer BMW's and they're starting to go back to the previous design language, with a modern touch.

But now Hyundai's taken it, and made cars that look good using the same technique.

That would mean it still has more than enough time to be launched as a 2012 like it was supposed to be no?

First thing I thought of when seeing that rear end was Ford Mondeo.

Rendering looks like a Mazda 6. Rear looks ugly with that continuous brake light/deflector in the middle

The front does nothing for me. The rear and profile shown in the CGI look very good, though, IMO.

No surprise that the takes something invented and betters it. The Japanese have been doing it forever.

Well, with Ford...my peeve with them was their huge disparity between their European/Global fleet versus what we got in NA.

HUGE difference.

Case in point: the Focus. It is a terrific car in terms of looks and performance everywhere else BUT the NA continent. Completely different models.

So, go figure. I think it was more that Ford needed to bring in their cars from the rest of the world to NA than anything else...

this rendering is not a typical exaggerated rendering.

these are typical exaggerated rendering by hyundai.

so it will have the same lines and proportion.

I really like the front....the rear looks best on the third rendering (that might be the Equus though?)

^ I agree. It doesn't look like it's trying as hard. I wonder if they will pitch it more as a Hyundai Maxima or a Hyundai Avalon like the current Azera.

I think it looks better than the Sonata as well, but it looks like it's gonna be how the Infiniti G & M series look very similar....same for the Azera & Sonata.

This is what the Sonata should have looked like. They should have just dropped the Azera. I think it looks like a cross between the Sonata and Mazda 6.

Look at the last-gen BMW 5-ish "eyelid" detail in the top portion of the headlights. Equus has it too.

And you mean to say you do not see the bulging hips aft of the rear cabin, a la Equus? Also look at the trailing window shape before the C pillar, with the slight kick up from the lower portion. On the Sonata, that lower portion of the rear window runs flat with the side body line. Equus has a slight kick up.

you see the obvious Sonata cues, but you have to look for the more subtle Equus that's in there too.
