Also remember that the drivers side of the car is usually heavier than the passenger, perhaps that slight shift still keeps the balance intact.

crazy. hyundai is definitly on the rise. but in korea, hyundai has models out that are really luxurious already. wish they would bring a few of them over here. they probably will once they start powering these engines here!

WOW! That thing looks rediculously amazing. I can see obvious designs from MANY other makes, but this thing looks awesome.

wait, come to think of it, this SHOULD have been what the current generation Accord looked like.

The 3.5l in the curent xg makes 194hp, the 3.3L in the new sonata is going to make 230hp. (hp/l people clap out loud (hplcol)). Ps, that new sonata shows what Honda should have done but didn't, that black Sonata is damn hot and the new SI shows what the accord coupe should have been, double failure ouch.

Junksta is wondering about balance because Junksta is missing the tranny factor All engines of FWD cars are off to one side o the other slightly due to the room needed for the tranny which is attached to the engine.

Anyway, that could be why. A normal longitudinally mounted engine would be able to be centered for balance.

This is weird though I think older Porsches and VW Beetles were like this.

</asstalk>
transversely and horizontally should be synonymous in this case.

Great pic of the Sonata. But isn't the XG a seperate model above it that supposedly competes with Avalon (atleast in theory).

Looks like the XG will get HID lights which is a first for a Korean car in N.America. Aybody look at the chart? Looks like their gunning for the 5 Series and Lexus ES330 as their benchmark?

Yeah, the XG is truly the flaghip, running with the Avalon and Maxima crowd. Even though it's way to small now, it looks like they've addressed that with this new car. The new Sonata is right under it, and like the current XG, is say small and underpowered for it's intended competeion. And again, the new Sonata looks ready to be seen as real competiton to Camry, Accord, Altima, etc.

wow... great find on the XG(Grandeur) pic...

Doesn't look bad. Kinda like a older, more mature brother of the Sonata...

If the XG is priced right, that might steal some sales from other large sedans.

What's with Hyundai? They are on a roll.

Yeah, the're taking pages from Toyota's (Lexus too) design stealing playbook. And the result is great, IMO. This is the first Hyundai product I can say I'd crossshop with the competition, if I was in the market for this class sedan. Exterior wise, I think it's a homerun as far as appeal to the U.S. consumer. Hell, how could it not be with the Mazda/Honda front and Honda (fixed) rear?

Keep in mind that they’re target market is the general public and not enthusiasts like us. If that the case, then they’ll sell boatloads of these. They’ll be no stopping Hyundai.

The main competition to the XG would most likely be the Avalon, maybe the 500, and other large, cruiser-type sedans (Buicks come to mind)...

I think it could do well in that segment as a bargain option in terms of price. The current XG starts at 26k, and I'm sure they won't raise that much, if at all.

Junkster, who wonders why there's no coverage of the XG on any of the Geneva coverages

Looks good, Hyundai is actually making nice looking cars, but I still wouldnt own one though. This looks like what the Accord sedan should've looked like.

Ditto. Damn, they did a nice job on the looks of the car. The front may get lost in the crowd, but it's still attractive. They did a great job on the rear; the best I've seen from Hyundai. They've made some huge strides in the interior, too. Not up there with the Avalon, but certainly a viable alternative.

Looks nice though not really exciting. Falls into that boring class of car like the avalon which it seems to look capable of taking on if it has the power.

I like the Sonata more, but I am REALLY liking the efforts Hyundai is making. Pretty soon, they'll be right with Toyota and Honda IF they keep their latest quality stuff going. Good job, but I think the Avalon and maybe even the Maxima (despite shitty materials) are better buys in this segment.

It's probably an option and not standard equipment. It'd be crazy not to have one available when the Sonata (it's little brother) will.
