Honda said on Saturday that it is considering building its first Japanese factory since 1976 to make power trains or assemble cars, reports Bloomberg. On Friday, Nikkei English News said the plant will be used to build new VTEC motors and a V10 engine for sports cars, coming as soon as 2008. Honda is widely expected to unveil a V10-based NSX successor in the 2008 to 2009 timeframe. According to a recent Auto Motor und Sport report, the new Honda/Acura NSX will move upmarket, and will target Aston Martin.

Woah... big news. Ofcourse we all knew the V10 was coming, but there nothing like a confirmation. Also very, very interesting to note; they'll be targeting Aston. Five years ago, Aston wasn't even on compeitior's radars... now they're being targeted instead of target being someone like Porsche. Major kudos to them.

Basically this announcement means that the next gen NSX is in for a MAJOR price increase. The current gen is 90K, so I'd venture to guess the next gen will be 100K plus. Acura better be careful or they will price the car out of the market.

to honda
but i wonder why they chose to target aston
so the next nsx is gonna be a plushy sports car??
i mean, astons are nice but they dont win in sports car categories against the competition.....why not target ferrari's F430 (or F"watever" at that time)
i'd hate to think that honda is aimiing low in the sports category

What makes them think that if they couldn't make money with the cuyrrent NSX that an even more expensive one will sell?
This has the makings of Phateon type flop - a very good car people just won't buy (mainly because of the name).

Well back then when the NSX first came out, I'm thinking that Ferrari and Porsche weren't too happy that a Honda can beat one of their cars. Even though the advancement of Ferrari and Porsche were going to happen even if the NSX didn't come out, I think that they were aiming at the NSX. Of course, Ferrari and Porsche advanced WAY over Honda and Honda just stayed behind and finally made a move now. IMO

Honda hangs onto any of their sports cars for a little too long. Look how long the S2000 and NSX stayed basically the same with minor changes.
The car market is evolving faster than people think. If you stand still for 15 years with the same design, newer designs are bound to exceed it.
