Honda XGA: S2000 replacement?

Looks like a Chrysler Crossfire to me. Oh well, more sport coupes on the market can only be a good thing.

What a shame. They should take the Honda badge off and slap an Acura badge on there. Thought they styling of the two brands is still way to close for comfort, this would be a great Acrua, and Acura could really use a nice coupe.

The styling is based on the sport concept 4 which will be the new TSX. Which means that the SGA might end up being the new Acura sport coupe

With a design like that, it will end up an Acura. Honda can't put that in their US market...too expensive and too radical, plus it will really 1up the Acura brand.

Ditch the :ghey: name.

R&T showed a more pricey GT sketch with an Acura badge. This would be its downmarket brother. But it does look like the Sport Concept-4.

It was a 2+2 and you called it the Prelude, I'd be your best friend.

Sounds like a sub-nsx sports car that vtec.net has had on their model matrix for awhile

Prelude/CL/S2000 replacement all wrapped up into one ??

Thinks it makes more sense as a new rsx since the sports4 is the supposed new tsx.

Acura RX-8

Slap a nice engine in there with RWD and it is a winner.

The naming scheme and styling def suggests that it'll be branded Acura. Sounds like this will just be a two door version of the next gen TSX/sports4, kind of Acura's attempt to stay in line with the 2 dr coupes from the competitors.

As far as s2000 replacement goes, I'm not sure if the s2000 will have a successor in the short term. They might bring out a convertible based on this sports4/XGA concept, but it won't be a direct s2000 replacement as it was said that the s2000 is a special model introduced during Honda's 25th? 30th? anniversary to show Honda's racing heritage (a raw sports/performance/driver's car for pure driving enjoyment). The idea of the s2000 was based on the original roadster that Honda made (s200 or something like that), I think? So maybe down the road we'll see another one.

And for the prelude replacement as someone mentioned, I think a while ago it was said that it was to be merged with the Accord coupe (it really was a big over lap as the 2dr Accord was getting sportier), when they dropped the prelude.

Not sure about the RSX, but I think it's likely to be dropped and merged into the Civic line, or make it something more upscale to compete with the 1 series/A3...

...Just my speculation, anyway

"merged" doesn't completely make sense. An Accord Coupe and a Prelude are different in function. You might stuff your coworkers into the back of an Accord, but not a Prelude.
The buyer of an Acura does not really want to 'step down' into a Civic. So it makes sense on one level but not the other.

Still, Honda really puts out a lot of two-door cars. I'd be surprised if they don't have something affordably sporty for the Honda brand and something luxurious for the Acura brand, by 2010 or so.

The 'NSX' and 'XGA' were both shown in Road & Track, just like a 'Supra' and a 'Lexus GT.'

Honda/Acura XGA

So long S2000, Hello Honda XGA… PDF Print E-mail
Written by Drew Gross
Mar 31 2006

Honda executives in Japan have stunned the automotive community with the declaration that 2006 will be the last year for the current S2000. The announcement was surprising coming from the usually tight lipped Honda brain-trust, and is most likely a response to Nissan’s recent announcement of the new Skyline GT-R. (Honda is aggressively pursuing a higher profit margin vehicle.) Whether the car will be released in the United States under the Honda or Acura moniker is still being debated, but the new car, which shares the platform of the S2000, (not the Acura RL as previously speculated) will be built at Honda’s Suzuka plant which will make it necessary to discontinue production of the venerable S2k to insure production capacity.

“We are very excited about the new XGA. It combines all the elements consumers desire in a luxury sport coupe along with traditional Honda performance and reliability. At a price significantly lower than our most recent NSX offering greater power and handling, we expect the XGA to quickly dominate its class.” said Honda spokesperson Reiji Tanaka at the press conference unveiling the new design. “We are sorry to see the S2000 go, but when first introduced, it was only supposed to have a two year model run. Now we are very excited at the new direction Honda will be taking with the much more refined XGA.”

The new model will be a 2+2 hardtop with a 3 litre V-tec 6 cylinder powerplant developing 320 HP at 7500RPMs. (again, not the V8 or V-10 reported in Road and Track) It will feature the Honda SH-AWD system, GPS navigation, an eight speaker stereo system with an in-dash CD changer and XM satellite radio, and an information system that displays trip, gas mileage, service intervals, and other pertinent data. The sport tuned suspension will have five settings to adjust between comfort and all-out performance. The 18” forged alloy wheels will come equipped with Bridgestone’s newest Potenza sport tire with 255/35 series in the front and 285/30s in the rear. The new interior will be much plusher than the S2000, and offer many additional options to the buyer than the one-flavor fits all approach of the S2000. Power will be delivered to the wheels through either a six speed manual transmission or a five speed automatic with a clutchless shift option. The base model is expected to retail in the $43k range, but options can push that figure to more than $50k. The new models should start appearing in Tokyo showrooms sometime in the spring of 2007 with a US appearance a short time after. As soon as more photos/info is available, we’ll be sure to post it right away. The S2000 is very near and dear to all of us here at S2ki, and while the news is quite disturbing on one hand, we’re excited to see what Honda has in store for us next.

This would've been better to be introduced as the "RL-coupe". It has absolutely no hint of the S2000 and shouldn't even be considered as a "replacement".

Anyway, I hope this isn't a repost.

Wow, that looks hot and I like the specs, but at $43K and pushing $50K loaded seems way to pricey IMO.

Well, I guess that CL replacement that people have been whining about is finally here.

Honda would be foolish not to release this as an Acura and essentially market is as a competitor to the BMW 6-series and MB CLK/CLS.

i doubt it'll weigh less than 3k lbs due to all the "plush" options and the fact that it'll have ths sh-awd system.

one thing that caught my eye was the staggered tire set up. what use would it have for a car that is awd? i don't see sti's implementing this type of set up, and that is a pure sports car with very little luxury.
