I see this as a Civic coupe with a different appearance. It also seems to be a bit smaller (and perhaps lighter) than the Civic. I think it comes down to the price. It would be nice if there's a Type R version.

Agreed. a Civic coupe, due out when the 2026 maybe as a 27 the same year a new gen Civic debuts.

Got me thinking if the Prelude gives some clues to the next gen Civic. If Honda sticks to past practices, the next gen Civic design should be more contemporary.

Bit of a bummer if true, to just rebadge the Civic Coupe as Prelude.

I had an EK Civic coupe & a few friends with 5G Preludes (stock/base, JDM Type S & Type-SH)
Markedly different cars back then.

The Civic is a stronger seller than the Accord. So it makes sense to tie it to the Civic, and bringing back a storied name in the process.

No doubt, but would've been great to make it a stand-alone performance model, not just a rebadge of dropping the Civic coupe for a new name.

I think it's a stand-alone model, in a sense that it doesn't look like a Civic coupe. Ideally, I'd love to see a Type R version though.

Was kinda expecting that with Honda's current run of hybrid power plants. Figure with hybrid powerplants being so popular on sports cars it's OK for the Prelude.

The way the new e:HEV powertrain works is that the gas motor is mostly a generator for the battery. By default, the electric motor is what drives the wheels. It's only at highway speeds that the gas motor clutches in and gets connected directly to the front wheels. Ergo it has a single gear which means there would be no gears to row through.

I had a '86 Prelude Si, also loved that car. Alot of great memories in that car.

As for the potential powertrain, the current CR-V and Accord hybrid powertrain with the dual electric motor is probably gonna be in the Prelude. Technical info below

I had a 94 VTEC model that was fantastic. Wish I never sold it.

This looks like a softened Civic coupe to me, and will likely have a terrible CVT as the only transmission option.

Re-read the thread, this gas motor on this thing is only active at highway speeds, thus, it will likely only have one gear, no CVT needed.

If it's the same two motor hybrid that the CR-V uses, it has an e-CVT. So yeah, single speed (not infinite), but just as engaging.

There are testdrives in Japanese youtube of the new Prelude S+ mode. They modeled it off the NSX and it sounds/feels/shifts like the DCT. Crazy how they were able to do that with just software tuning.

So the Prelude is the Civic Coupe. Odd they would share switchgear since the Civic is getting a FMC in a couple of years. One would think the Prelude gave you some insight on the next gen Civic.

No manual, no interest. Manuals help inject a dose of fun to (relatively) lower powered cars that are otherwise a bit of a snooze to drive.

Nice interior. Definitely has Civic vibes, which I think is the right direction. But I agree, it needs to have a manual offering.

Sophisticated, Yet Muscular Design
Advanced aerodynamics give the new Honda Prelude a sophisticated yet muscular look with a low, sharp nose, wide stance and smooth silhouette with clean, dynamic surfaces. Beautifully integrated aerodynamics, which include a large front under spoiler and a flat surface across the rear edge of the liftgate, provide an optimal balance of front and rear downforce at higher speeds, adding stability.

Designed in Japan, Prelude is distinct from every angle, highlighted by the sports coupe's aggressive proportions, a racy "double-bubble" roof and flared fenders that cover large 19-inch machine-finished Berlina Black wheels wrapped in 235/40R19 tires. The wide stance of Prelude is accentuated by unique wing-like daytime running lights and the double horizontal lines of its full-width taillights.

The exterior styling features meticulous attention to detail, including a black chrome grille louver, and blue accents at the lower center of the front and rear fascias that emphasize the coupe's low and sporty stance. That same blue color is also seen on Prelude's large 4-piston front Brembo brake calipers, adding both style and impressive stopping power.

The sophisticated exterior styling of Prelude features clean, dynamic surfaces with flush door handles and an antenna embedded in its liftback glass. As with all Honda passenger cars, Prelude uses laser brazing technology along the roofline, eliminating the need for roof molding for a smooth and clean roofline.

The 2026 Prelude is available in 5 bold colors, including the new Winter Frost Pearl, which is available with either a bodycolor or black roof option. Meteorite Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Rally Red also are available, along with Boost Blue Pearl.

For customers looking to take the sporty styling of Prelude even further, the sports coupe can be customized with an extensive new line of Honda Genuine Accessories, including uniquely styled 19-inch machine-finished Berlina Black wheels, black decklid spoiler, front underbody spoilers, black emblems and door mirror covers.

New Honda S+ Shift
The 6th-generation Prelude marks the debut of Honda S+ Shift, an innovative new drive mode that simulates a performance transmission experience. Honda S+ Shift advances Linear Shift Control to deliver maximum levels of driver engagement. By precisely managing engine RPM and integrating paddle shifters, Honda S+ Shift delivers quick simulated gearshift responses through seamless coordination between the engine and high-power motor, including downshift blips, rev matching and gear holding. Honda has announced plans to feature S+ Shift on future hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) models.

Responsive Civic Type R Chassis Hardware
The 2026 Honda Prelude is the brand's 1st hybrid-electric model to feature the high-performance chassis hardware of the legendary Civic Type R, including the dual-axis strut front suspension, wide front and rear tracks and large brakes originally designed for the iconic hot hatch. With the suspension and brake systems tuned exclusively for Prelude, including the standard Adaptive Damper System, the new sports coupe will deliver a sporty yet comfortable grand touring experience with high levels of driver exhilaration and engagement.

Selectable drive modes enable the driver to optimize the Prelude driving experience, seamlessly switching between Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual driving modes for various conditions with pre-set performance settings controlling powertrain response, steering assist level, suspension damping, engine sound, gauge cluster layout and adaptive cruise-control. Driver-Focused Cabin
The new Prelude offers an immersive cockpit with a clean and elegant design, low cowl and thin A-pillars for exceptional forward visibility, all crafted around the grand touring driving experience. Ultra-premium front sport seats feature soft-touch leather, racing inspired integrated head-restraints, and asymmetrical bolstering to balance driver support with passenger comfort. The Prelude interior is available in 2 striking color combinations, a 2-tone Blue and White or Black – both featuring high-contrast blue accent stitching to compliment the blue exterior details. The 1st 3 products in the Honda lineup in the 1970s were Civic, Accord and Prelude, and soon all 3 will be back together again in the Honda passenger car lineup as hybrids.

Another Honda means another missed opportunity. Put the crappy hybrid bullshit into the pedestrian cars meant to be appliances and give the good stuff to the performance cars. Hell if you want to hybrid the performance cars, actually do that and not saddle a 200hp motor with some ungodly amount of weight in batteries and hybrid shit.

If this was called the Civic Coupe (and priced accordingly) I think a lot of the complaints from enthusiasts would have been avoided. And while the Prelude has historically been very close to a Civic Coupe, it was always the sportier/premiumer option, which admittedly this one is. However, the fact that this doesn't have a manual option is going to push away a lot of enthusiasts, and frankly I'm not sure how many "normal" car buyers are looking for a 2+2 coupe with the CTR suspension and Civic Hybrid powertrain. Seems like an incredibly niche segment that would pay a premium for this car, which is estimated to be around $40K...

Maybe this is why the Integra doesn't get the eHEV powertrain, because Honda knows it would cannibalize the shit out of the Prelude.

Sophisticated, Yet Muscular Design

Advanced aerodynamics give the new Honda Prelude a sophisticated yet muscular look with a low, sharp nose, wide stance and smooth silhouette with clean, dynamic surfaces. Beautifully integrated aerodynamics, which include a large front under spoiler and a flat surface across the rear edge of the liftgate, provide an optimal balance of front and rear downforce at higher speeds, adding stability.

Designed in Japan, Prelude is distinct from every angle, highlighted by the sports coupe's aggressive proportions, a racy "double-bubble" roof and flared fenders that cover large 19-inch machine-finished Berlina Black wheels wrapped in 235/40R19 tires. The wide stance of Prelude is accentuated by unique wing-like daytime running lights and the double horizontal lines of its full-width taillights.

The exterior styling features meticulous attention to detail, including a black chrome grille louver, and blue accents at the lower center of the front and rear fascias that emphasize the coupe's low and sporty stance. New Honda S+ Shift

The 6th-generation Prelude marks the debut of Honda S+ Shift, an innovative new drive mode that simulates a performance transmission experience. Honda S+ Shift advances Linear Shift Control to deliver maximum levels of driver engagement. By precisely managing engine RPM and integrating paddle shifters, Honda S+ Shift delivers quick simulated gearshift responses through seamless coordination between the engine and high-power motor, including downshift blips, rev matching and gear holding. Honda has announced plans to feature S+ Shift on future hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) models.

Responsive Civic Type R Chassis Hardware

The 2026 Honda Prelude is the brand's first hybrid-electric model to feature the high-performance chassis hardware of the legendary Civic Type R, including the dual-axis strut front suspension, wide front and rear tracks and large brakes originally designed for the iconic hot hatch. With the suspension and brake systems tuned exclusively for Prelude, including the standard Adaptive Damper System, the new sports coupe will deliver a sporty yet comfortable grand touring experience with high levels of driver exhilaration and engagement.

Selectable drive modes enable the driver to optimize the Prelude driving experience, seamlessly switching between Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual driving modes for various conditions with pre-set performance settings controlling powertrain response, steering assist level, suspension damping, engine sound, gauge cluster layout and adaptive cruise-control. The suspension's distinct damping characteristics in each drive mode, give the driver precise control of the sports coupe's ride and handling with optimized damping curves. Driver-Focused Cabin

Ultra-premium front sport seats feature soft-touch leather, racing inspired integrated head-restraints, and asymmetrical bolstering to balance driver support with passenger comfort. LOL, a colleague had a 3G Prelude with that which made parallel parking easier.


I expect 0-60MPH to be ~6.2 sec. similar to the Civic Hybrid which it's drivetrain is based on and both have similar curb weight.
