This situation is just like the Accord and how it has won the C&D 10 best award for years.
Is it in the Top 10 cars in the world? No
In the US? No
In the Top 10 that people can actually afford? Absolutely

A nice dead pedal happens to be one of the most underrated items in a car, IMO. There's nothing I hate more than driving a MT car, and the dead pedal is awkward or is too far forward to let you rest/brace your foot against it. It's great for bracing yourself against your seat while cornering, and just for resting your foot on while cruising. Nothing aggravates me more than just letting my left foot sit flat on the floor with my knee bent for a long period of time.
Armrests are underrated too. I usually put my hands on the steering wheel, or while cruising I'll have one hand at 10/2 or 9/3 o'clock and the other on the opposite armrest. I couldn't imagine not having that ledge on the driver's side door to rest my arm on, or the center console to rest my arm on. Or even if I was a passenger, that center portion of the rear seat that folds down as an armrest is great.
One item I think thats overrated is cupholders.... all the Hondas I've been in (different generations of Civics, Accords, TLs, Integras) have all had mediocre or average-at-best cupholders. Never bothered me really. I've been in and driven cars without cupholders... kinda sucks while driving, didn't bother me too much as a passenger. You shouldn't be eating or drinking at all while driving anyway.
Rant aside, the Fit is appealing to me as a daily driver because it had so many quirks and great mileage, and supposedly is fun to drive. This year I went to several different Honda dealerships and none of them had any manual transmission Fits available for a test drive.

From Honda...
The 2009 Honda Fit is set to shake the subcompact segment with its respectable top-of-class features, and Americans can finally drive it when the car goes on sale this fall.
The exterior is quite deceiving in respect of the interior space. Honda has promised that this entry-level car will not compromise with functionality and refinements, which is indeed evident. For that, the interior is generously spacious and rich in technology. Adding to the basic is the Magic Seat feature, which provides for multiple adjustment functions of the rear seats for improved spaciousness and seating positions.
The ‘Fit Sport’ option comes with even further refinements. The dashboard packs some new features including the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with 6.5” screen and the dynamic USB audio interface that is compatible with iPod and various other USB storage devices.
The car comes with a new 1.5 litre 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. The ‘Fit Sport’ option will additionally include steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Even with all the sportiness, Honda still gives safety the priority. The Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) technology that packs an innovative body structure comes with various standard safety features such as Vehicle Stability Assist and technologically advanced airbags.

Hey! It has a dead pedal!
Now if they can only add an arm rest, it would be great.
I think the 1.5L will be a good improvement too. I wasn't expecting the current fit to be quick, but 10+ seconds to 100km/h was too slow for me to feel comfortable.

I feel the need...
Man, if this puppy came with Bluetooth, HID projectors, LED tails and has great safety scores, I would totally rock one of these as a commuter.
Then I won't feel guilty sporting a overmegapower weekend funster!

Someone want to tell me why the Fit gets the sporty honeycomb grille inserts while the new TSX uses the plain brick design in its grille? Seriously Honda, get your act together.

There is a dead pedal.
The armrest however, is a $182.40 option according to the below website.

Honda dealers struggle to maintain Civic, Fit inventories due to demand...
From Leftlanenews...
While Ford, Chrysler and General Motors dealers continue to struggle to move inventory amid a slumping market, Honda dealers are facing a much different battle — getting enough vehicles into inventory. Thanks to a fuel-efficient lineup, Honda vehicles are some of the most in demand vehicles in the nation.
In particular, Honda dealers can’t stock enough Civics and Fits, two of Honda’s most economical vehicles. As American buyers fell out of love with large trucks and SUVs, the Civic surged to become the best-selling vehicle in May – tallying a record-setting 53,299 sales – with the Fit setting a monthly personal best at 8,205 units.
"We're out of Fits," Rene Isip, one of the nation’s top Honda dealers told Automotive News, "and our days supply of Civics is in the single digits." Isip added that the Civic drought is driving up the cost of the fuel-efficient nameplate at auction, with the average price of a used 1-year old Civic going for about $1,000 more than a brand new car.
In order to keep up with skyrocketing demand, Honda plans to boost North America output of its Civic – including opening a new factory in October – but dealers may be facing a Fit shortage into 2009. The Fit is made in Japan and, due to global popularity, is in very short supply in the U.S. — although U.S. dealers have already received about an extra 30,000 to 40,000 units this year. Supply is expected to increase when the redesigned 2009 model hits the market later this year.

Honda confirms more Fits coming to U.S. this fall
As previously speculated, Honda will boost U.S. Fit allotment when the all-new car launches in October. In the wake of $4 gas, U.S. Fit demand has skyrocketed with many customers finding themselves on a waitlist to buy the economical hatchback.
When the Fit first launched in the U.S., Honda planned for about 30,000 to 40,000 annual sales. Honda quickly realized demand was far stronger than expected and increased the Fit’s U.S. production to 60,000 units, which still didn’t meet demand.
Therefore, Honda is allotting 80,000 Fits for the U.S. market, starting when the new model hits the market in early October.
The biggest reason for the Fit deficit is strong worldwide demand. The Fit is only produced in Japan with a global capacity of 500,000 units. But Honda is currently looking for ways to increase Fit capacity. “We compete with the rest of the world for Fit production,” John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda, told Automotive News. “We’re continuing to try to increase capacity wherever we can from around the world to bring it in.”

2008 Honda Jazz
From Worldcarfans...
Honda Jazz, new for 2008, is revealed with a whole new definition of compact spaciousness. The Jazz, known in some markets as the Fit, came into the market in 2001 and introduced a funkier, more practical dimension to the small car market. Such was the adoration Jazz received that it won Car of the Year in Japan and South Africa soon after. More of an evolution in design than a revolution, Jazz has grown in size. The new car retains most of the old car’s good parts, such as the magic seats that dive down with one action as well as the underfloor storage.
The new 90 PS 1.2-litre petrol delivers fuel economy of 5.1-litres per 100km average, and the 100 PS 1.4-litre does 5.3-litres per 100km, which are exceptional claimed figures. Both these engines are i-VTEC engines, but may not be confused with a Type R i-VTEC motor.
Interior has been improved as well, with things like a driver’s foot rest (never underestimate the importance of this feature!), i-SHIFT 6-speed automated manual transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a panoramic roof on the 1.4-litre EX model. The other “bigger car” feature in the Jazz is Shift Indicator Light or SIL which tells driver when to shift gears for the best fuel economy.
