Am I the only one who really likes the Element? It has a chance of being my next car.

I really like it. Checked one out at the dealer.

Unfortunately, the lack of seating for 3 in the back is a showstopper for me.

WOW... im impressed. The interior is amazing. The only thing that stops me from considering the Element is the lack of space.

My first impression of the Elephant was that it was the goofiest thing I'd ever seen. But a friend of mine bought one, I've driven it a few times and y'know, it's kinda neat. I still think it looks weird, but now I understand the appeal of the vehicle. It's right on the edge of funky/cool and funky/dorky. The concept definitely tips toward the funky/cool side.

Now what the heck is that thing connecting the overhead and center consoles in the concept photos? I think that would be annoying.

Are you serious? I thought the whole appeal of the car was the space and versatility. The seats can be removed, folded up etc which can't be done in alot of Suv's. I thought ot had plenty of space.

FRom what I can see, it looks like only 2 people can fit in the back. My idea of an SUV is an Escalade ESV -->

The Element has plenty of space for 2 people and their stuff, but with 4 people in it, there's limited storage room left over. A typical long wheelbase minivan has more capacity. The appeal is in the versatility and durability.

I'm 5"10 (5'11 in the morning) and I could'nt find a position in the driver's seat that was'nt obstructing the gauges. I moved the wheel, seat etc and I still could'nt see all the gauges. It was very unHonda like but I still loved the car overall.

Honda Element News **Recalled (page 1)**

not really big on most of hondas sema cars but this package does a lot for the element, of course they won't offer it.

The Honda Element delivers an affordable, rugged and adaptable platform that incorporates the best traits of a pickup with a hard flat floor, an SUV with a rear enclosed area and a car with responsive handling and good fuel economy. Starting around $16,000, the Element leaves room for extensive customization, and the Element Concept, developed by Honda Access America, shows one direction in which the Element can be taken. The concept features a high output i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine that takes advantage of a high flow exhaust to produce over 200 horsepower. An all-terrain sport suspension system coupled with high performance Brembo brakes and 21-inch wheels and tires offers increased handling precision on- and off-road as well as enhanced stopping power. Exterior modifications including a new front bumper and grille design, a wider track, bright aluminum finish and a roof-mounted tail spoiler give the Element a decidedly aggressive demeanor.

Powertrain Modifications

200+ horsepower i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine
Custom high flow exhaust
Chassis/Suspension Modifications

All-terrain on/off-road sport suspension
High performance slotted Brembo brakes
21-inch Honda Access custom design 5-spoke alloy wheels with satin finish
245/35R 21 Michelin concept tires
Exterior Modifications

New front bumper design with two-part metal/plastic combination
Black chrome headlight/taillight bezel finish with clear signal indicators
New grille design
Rocker panel side sills
Increased track width
Flared, body colored fender panels
New rear bumper design with integrated exhaust and heat diffuser
Roof-mounted tail spoiler
Bright aluminum finish on lower body panels
"Blue Metal Xenon" painted upper panels
Interior Modifications

Custom floor-to-ceiling center console including vehicle dynamics display, blue LED glow lighting and overhead mounted storage bins
Racing-inspired instrument panel with "high-contrast" surface finish, aluminum accents and air vents
Racing front bucket seats
DVD navigation system
Custom floor carpet
Sport grip shift knob and steering wheel
Door panel design modifications

Recalled

Safety recalls hit Toyota, DaimlerChrysler, Honda - - Source: Autonews

In another safety action, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. is recalling 14,967 2005 model-year Element wagons because the trailer harness kit has an incorrectly wired connector.

"As a result, the trailer brake lamps and turn signal lamps could operate incorrectly, or a fuse could blow causing a sudden loss of brake and turn signal lamp function," the NHTSA said.

2007 Honda Element SC Prototype

Production version to go on-sale this fall

NEW YORK, April 13, 2006 – An all-new urban-oriented counterpart to the Honda Element will debut this fall with an exclusive sport suspension, larger wheels and tires, unique styling and special features like a carpeted interior and a center console, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today at the 2006 New York International Auto Show.

With performance more than skin deep, the Element SC prototype rides 3-inches lower than stock with a sport suspension that delivers sports car-like handling. A front-to-rear aerodynamic body kit further lowers the vehicle’s stance, supplementing the new vehicle’s performance direction with a ground-hugging presence. High on sophistication, the Element SC smoothly stands out with exclusive features such as fully-painted exterior panels and trim pieces, projector-beam headlights and an aero-enhanced black grille. The interior further complements the city performance demeanor with a driver-oriented center console, copper hue instrument panel lighting backlit with LEDs, piano black trim and a carpeted floor.

“The Element SC prototype is the city-dwelling, style-conscious brother of the original Element,” said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. “Instead of features that accommodate outdoor sports and similar activities, the Element SC injects a new dimension of sophistication into the lineup that can best be characterized as ‘night performer.’”

The exterior styling expresses a sophisticated, performance-oriented attitude with SC-exclusive features that include projector beam headlights, custom front bumper, lowered suspension, large alloy wheels, custom grille and a slightly lowered roofline (trim effect).

To match the outside, the exclusive interior takes on an entirely new personality with a center console that has enclosed storage areas ideal for mobile phones and MP3 players. Additional exclusive features include trim accents that correspond to the copper-colored illumination.

The 2007 Element SC prototype has a 2.4-liter, DOHC, i-VTEC engine that benefits from a 10 horsepower increase over the 2006 Element, bringing the total to 166 horsepower (SAE net revised 8/04). The increase is achieved primarily through the addition of high-flow intake and exhaust systems and high-lift camshafts. Additional enhancements include drive-by-wire throttle control. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and the available automatic transmission has five forward gears instead of four.

Fulfilling the goals of Honda’s “Safety for Everyone” initiative introduced in 2003, all 2007 Elements will provide a core suite of standard safety equipment that goes beyond existing regulations and includes side curtain airbags, driver’s side impact airbag, front passenger’s side impact airbag, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and ABS.

The 2007 Honda Element also introduces an Integrated Seat Belt System on the front seats that allows rear seat occupants to exit the vehicle without the need for a front occupant to disconnect his or her seatbelt. In place of the existing B-pillar, door-mounted shoulder strap, the new Integrated Seat Belt System shoulder strap originates from the top of the seat and helps to enhance vehicle ingress/egress convenience for rear passengers.

The Element SC prototype features custom 21-inch cast aluminum alloy wheels, 245/35R21 high-performance custom tires, and 4-wheel disc brakes with large brake rotors and custom copper-appearance brake calipers. The combination of the sport-tuned suspension and aggressive wheel and tire package results in an urban utility vehicle that handles like a sports car. A production vehicle based on the Element SC prototype will go on sale this fall.

^ That's what I thought it was too. But too late Honda, Toyota has arrived with the FJ Cruiser, and I suspect the target market would easily chooses the FJ over the Element.

i thought the loaded FJ was 30k+?

if that's the case, i think elements would do well around 22k.

The Element still has more back seat room and more cargo and is 6-10k cheaper so I don't see the competition other than the quirky looks

But the element does look alot better with body colored panels instead of the dopey looking tu-toned older model...

I don't really consider the FJ and Element to be competitors... I can see the Element competing with the Scion Xb... And while I like the looks of the Xb better, the element wins out in the funky looking box competion 'cause it's available with awd...

Well since it seems to be deleted from TOV, it seems like this is real.

Too bad I think this will be an upgrade rather than a new model from lx model up.

I don't feel so bad about the goofy plaid seats in my GTI after seeing these. I do dig the exterior of the SC, I seriously considered an Element w/some aftermarket rims before buyin the Dub.

Doesn't have Scion even near its sights, if anything this will be a 24k top line vehicle vs a 14k xb, cya.

The SC seat design might make for a good shower curtain. They remind me of some Nissan interiors I've seen. I don't like it, but to each his own.

Other than the fact that I'm not interested in this w/o a 6cyl, it's a pretty good looking vehicle.

have you guys ever been in an element?

our company has one and i drive it every other day to deliever stuff..

It is Very uncomfortable sitting in the rear.... it feels weird. The rear seat is too high and rear has no windows to roll down + the suspension is very stiff, it makes u feel dizzy after sitting in the rear for 30 mins.

The car feels very UNstable at 70+ mph.

Overall the car feels weird. i am not saying it is bad but it feels weird.

i am not bashing element. there is just something wrong with this car.. that u will feel it once you drive it for a while...
