A rumor is floating around that the CR-V may spawn a pickup version.

Interesting. Make sure you put the 180hp version of the 2.2 diesel!

Do you think it will retain the name Ridgeline if it goes that much smaller?

Or new additional model?

With the demise of the Ford Ranger, Honda today announed that it will enter the small pickup truck market with a CR-V derived model. The truck will borrow features from the bigger Ridgeline, while using the proven drivetrain of the CR-V. Crew cab and even Acura models might also be in the offing.

you forgot to mention: "with the towing capacity of 895 lbs, hybrid is the only optional feature"

^ as was seen in a few spy pics, towing has become important to Honda and the ratings might be higher than that.

Current CR-V towing is 1500 lbs. I'm sure it could easily be higher if the CR-V included factory transmission coolers and heavy duty radiators.

So, I expect a CR-V based trucklet to have at least 2000 lbs, and that's about all most would need/want from a compact anyway.

^ right because a 4 cyl engine with less than 200 lbft of torque that's moving a 3200lb vehicle has lots of spare power to tow that much.

Doesn't seem to be a problem for all the people in Europe towing campers with their compact cars.

BUT, Europeans aren't trying to drag race a rival Chevy or Ford while towing either.

I reiterate, A CR-V can easily tow 2000 lbs when driven by an educated normal person not trying to street race other 16 year old punks.

Just did a quick check. A Ford Ranger has less HP and TORQUE than the current CR-V, and the base Ranger is rated to tow over 2000 lbs.

Maybe Honda will be catering to those clients? Maybe they realized that the Ridgeline was too much of a reach and they need to downsize it and fill the Ranger void.

Seriously, there's very little chance Honda will build another pickup - the Ridgeline just got its last facelift before its demise.

Also, the listed 2.4 says it's rated at 175hp@5500 vs. the current 180hp@6800. Torque goes up to 170 vs. current 161.

Perhaps a CR-V Touring model with an exclusive 2.5L. Something similar to the 6-speed only Odyssey Touring?

Hmm, only 7 more lb-ft. I can only presume it comes and stays on much earlier.

The 2.5 will probably be reserved for the EX-L and above? work out the kinks in year 1 and 2.

And still a 5 speed? Seriously now....

Honda and the decade old tech. 5-speed

I like the exterior design...one of Honda's best in a very long time, but the old drive train tech is down right horrible. It's like Honda is the Chrysler of 1988.

Maybe they want to skip the 6 AT and go straight to the 6 DCT? They can't afford the extra $50 of the 6AT? The 5 AT is good enough and doesn't affect sales?

6 speeds are soooooo 2000s....

Perhaps Honda is going to develop a 10 speed for all the size queens.

I wonder why the Ody, TL, RL and ZDX have 6 speeds now? I mean, 5 are good enough right? I don't think 6 speeds help with fuel economy or performance at all.

Maybe it's a volume thing - all those models combined usually sell less than the CR-V. And of course all of those have much higher margins.

If you guys are looking for better performance and economy from a transmission, you should look for CVTs. I think Subaru is replacing their 4-speed with a CVT.

All the cars mentioned that have a 6 speed automatic are V6 powered. All of Honda's 4 cylinder models are 5 speed automatics. Coincidence?

^^ but there are plenty of 4cyl vehicles out there that have 6 speed AT.

Honda is behind the curve.

Also interesting is how the chart breaks down the specific productions number out for 6 years.

Is it a coincidence that the V6 Accord, Pilot and some Ody's still have a 5AT?

They're somehow not yet ready to put a 6AT in their 4 bangers, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that fuel economy and performance will be improved with a 6AT. Sure the 5AT is good enough, but it could be and should be better.

You're probably right. And its the smart thing to do when rolling out a new tranny or any new piece of tech for that matter. But there's no denying they're way behind the curve on this one. This new tech should have been rolled out gradually like this 3 years ago.

So they bored the K24 to 2.5L. What does this mean for the K? Does it solider on for another 5-6 years?
