Actually, you could remove the rear seats on the 02-06 CR-V. It requires a tool or two. So it can be done.

I imagine since it is a heritage design, the same will probably apply to the 07 CR-V.

Regardless, the cargo space for the 07 CR-V should satisfy 99% of the buying public.

So that's why they did away with the 5MT

I wonder if this is the start of a trend for Honda - if the line doesn't have at least 5% MT sales, at the next model redesign the MT is dropped.

Only because they removed the spare tire and relocated it to the floor. 70lbs for better safety and more content doesn't seem like much of a penalty to me.

Wifey loves her CRV, perfect for runs to Home Depot, Costco and the occasional snow/muck in Michigan.

Seat removal requiring a tool??? Welcome to fold flat technology. Yet the new seats still fold down at 45 degrees.

The cargo space should satisfy 99% of the public? You should have announced that when the last gen crv was inroduced cause nothing has changed literally.

The only way you'd have fold flat seats is if they're the unsupportive kinds, like most 3rd row seats in minivans. The flat backs and the flat cushions allow for that feature.

Details: 2007 Honda CR-V Specs Released - - Source: Edmunds.com

TORRANCE, Calif. — Honda has released photos and specifications on its all-new 2007 CR-V small sport-utility vehicle, although pricing has not yet been announced.

The new-generation CR-V has an all-new body design and adds safety features and what Honda calls "near-luxury style."

The CR-V is available as LX, EX and EX-L models. All models get a 166-horsepower 2.4-liter i-VTEC engine, up 10 hp over the 2006 CR-V, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Automatic Real Time 4WD is optional. The new model also has Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) safety-enhancing body structure.

Honda focused heavily on electronic and audio systems on the 2007 CR-V, so all trim levels get at least 160 watts of audio power — and the new must-have, auxiliary audio input (iPod) jacks. The top EX-L model has an optional Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with voice recognition, a rearview camera and a digital MP3 and WMA audio card reader.

The CR-V is currently built in seven different countries. For the U.S. market, the new model will be built at Honda's East Liberty, Ohio, plant, marking the first time the model has been assembled in North America.

What this means to you: New is good.

This looks big like the new rav4 in pics, but in person I was kinda surprised at how small it was. They might as well start building accord and civic wagons if they aren't willing to make these vehicles bigger like the rest of the market.

Honda CR-V Knocks Ford Explorer Out of #1 Spot
For most of the past 15 years, the Ford Explorer has been America's top selling SUV. This year, the the Honda CR-V is number one, and the Explorer has dropped to fourth place.

"That category of traditional SUVs has clearly tumbled from its height," Ford sales analyst George Pipas said in an interview with Bloomberg. In 2002, automakers sold about 3 million truck-based SUVs in the United States. Pipas says that number will be "less than 2 million this year."

Meanwhile, sales of car-based crossover SUVs continue to climb. Sales of crossovers in the U.S. grew 15.2 percent through April 2007 to 893,441, while truck-based SUV sales dropped 8.8 percent to 564,417, according to Autodata Corp. The top three SUVs so far this year are all crossovers.

The CR-V was redesigned late last year. It is 15 inches shorter, 2 inches narrower, and 1,000 lbs lighter than an Explorer. A recent report suggested the next-generation Ford Explorer would be a crossover based on the same platform as the new Taurus.

Have to say, that it mighty impressive for a vehicle that many wrote off because of its styling and the fact that its only offered with a 4.

Personally I think the styling is bang on but they would sell even more with an optional V6.

Strange, but true - given the same platform.

The stateside version should come w/ projecters and side mirror led signals just like the JDM. Look is much better.

CRV gets diesel and 5 speed AT!!!!

.....but only in Europe.

You can stop doing your dance of excitement.

Honda hates North America.

Honda has given the European market version of its popular CR-V small SUV a modest face lift and, more importantly, the Japanese automaker will offer its 2.2-liter diesel engine with a Honda-built five-speed automatic for the first time ever.

The diesel won’t make it to the North American market, but we can expect at least some of the styling changes to show up here for the 2010 model year.

A new front bumper and grille, a revised rear bumper and more color coded panels on high-line models separate the 2010 from its predecessors, although the differences are small overall. New 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels also make an appearance and inside, upgraded fabric and plastic panels and a new audio system round out the changes.

The 150-horsepower, 258 lb-ft. of torque four-cylinder diesel gets a modest boost for the new year and it can be paired to a five-speed automatic for the first time ever. A manual transmission continues as standard. Honda says the new combo meets Euro 5 regulations, although it has yet to release emissions or consumption specifics.

Hmm... I wonder if this means they worked out the emission issue with the diesel/5AT combo that was one of the excuses for not having a diesel TSX.

If Audi/VW keep making inroads with the diesels in the US Acura/Honda will have to react.

09/10/2009 - TORRANCE, Calif. -
The Honda CR-V adds to its compact crossover SUV credentials for the 2010 model year with refinements and upgrades to the exterior and interior, new features, better fuel economy, and more power.

Exterior styling enhancements include a freshened front fascia with a new grille and bumper design, a re-sculpted hood, and a new rear bumper shape. A 10-spoke alloy wheel design, standard on CR-V EX and EX-L, replaces the previous 7-spoke alloy wheel design. Interior improvements focus on new features and functionality. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® is now included on models equipped with the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™. Auto on/off headlights have been added to the CR-V EX-L and the front seats have wider center armrests on all models.
Upgrades to the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine improve power output to 180 horsepower (hp), a 14 hp increase. City/highway EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings increase to 21/28 miles per gallon1 (mpg) on 2WD models and 21/27 mpg1 on models equipped with Real Time™ 4WD - an increase of 1 mpg in both city and highway driving on all models.

"The CR-V provides many of the favorable aspects of a car and an SUV in a stylish, yet highly functional and capable vehicle," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "For 2010, the CR-V represents an even better value with significant upgrades throughout the vehicle."

While compact on the outside with a 103.1-inch wheelbase and a convenient-to-park length of less than 15 feet, the interior provides 103.8 cu-ft. of passenger volume (CR-V LX) for up to five passengers. Add in a cargo volume of 35.7 cu-ft. behind the rear seats and the CR-V creates a total interior volume that, from a space efficiency perspective, exceeds the U.S. EPA's size definition for a large sedan of 120 cu-ft.
A wide range of interior updates for 2010 include modifications to the radio functionality and control layout, the introduction of new seat fabric textures and an upgraded interior door handle design with a rubberized grip handle. Revised trim panel sections for the steering wheel, gear selector, upper glove box and center console (navigation-equipped models only) serve to brighten the overall interior color theme. Models equipped with an ivory interior now feature a more passenger-friendly darker brown carpet instead of light brown.

The AM/FM/CD audio system integrates a dual tone gray/black color scheme with blue backlighting, replacing black. The CR-V EX-L (navigation and non-navigation models) receives a USB Audio Interface2 for direct access to music files on compatible devices using the vehicle's existing controls.
Consistent with the new audio system backlighting, the background color of the Multi-Information Display (MID) now appears blue (previously black). The MID's digital display functions, which include the odometer, trip computer and vehicle maintenance indicators among other features, for 2010 now include a compass feature on CR-V EX and EX-L (non-navigation) models. On navigation-equipped models, the newly added Bluetooth HandsFreeLink status and related functions are displayed in the MID.

For comfort, the driver's and front passenger's center folding armrests are each wider by 1 inch compared to the previous model. The front row storage zones continue to offer the same functionality with areas designed to accommodate items as large as a handbag between the seats to items as small as a mobile phones and music players on the retractable center tray table. A center console replaces the retractable center tray table on the CR-V EX-L with navigation.

A sliding 60/40 split second row seat with a 40/20/40 folding seatback offers cargo versatility by sliding forward to increase cargo space, folding forward to accommodate long objects, or folding and tumbling forward to create a large, flat cargo area. Maximum possible cargo volume measures 72.9 cu-ft. with approximate floor dimensions of 51 inches long by 39 inches wide (at wheel wells). Storage potential behind the rear seat is enhanced by a dual-deck cargo shelf (CR-V EX and EX-L) that can strategically accommodate items like a folded baby stroller on the lower level and groceries bags on the upper level. The second row seat includes a Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) child seat mounting system for all rear seat positions, allowing two outboard child seats to be installed or one center child seat.

Standard safety equipment includes: the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure; Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), commonly referred to as electronic stability control; and a pedestrian safety design in the front of the vehicle. Additional standard equipment includes side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor; front side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); active front seat head restraints; an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist; and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
The CR-V's unit-body construction makes extensive use of high-strength steel (58 percent) to save weight and create a high-rigidity body structure, which significantly contributes to the vehicle's ride quality, fuel efficiency and safety performance.
A dynamic forward cabin blends the CR-V's upscale body lines into a sculpted lower body with a rugged appearance and durable cladding. A two-tier grille and a side profile with an arched window shape and chrome trim accent the CR-V's distinctive and upscale presence.
For 2010, the front fascia's upper grille has a single horizontal chrome-style trim cross bar as opposed to the double slat style cross bar from the previous design. The hood's sheet metal now flows flush into the upper portion of the grille instead of wrapping down and around the grille.
The lower portion of the grille receives a honeycomb design that replaces the previous three-bar horizontal cross design. A chrome-colored trim piece has been added at the junction where the lower grille section intersects the top of the bumper (on EX and EX-L only). The circular port for Honda Genuine Accessory fog lights is encompassed within the re-sculpted front bumper's painted surface area, which extends lower on the vehicle, instead of within the lower black body cladding. Correspondingly, the re-shaped rear bumper's painted surface area now encompasses the red rear reflectors, also previously located within the black cladding.

The suspension is comprised of a front MacPherson strut layout and a rear multi-link suspension. The high-rigidity body and independent suspension offer a comfortable and engaging driving experience for a crossover SUV. State-of-the art noise absorption materials help to reduce engine and road noise for a quieter cabin.

The all-aluminum,16-valve, Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) i-VTEC engine integrates an "intelligent" version of Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control along with Variable Timing Control (VTC), which are sophisticated Honda valvetrain technologies designed to enhance fuel economy and power output while reducing exhaust emissions. The VTEC portion of the system hydraulically adjusts the intake valves' rocker arms for lift and duration to help optimize engine efficiency for low- and high-RPM ranges. The Variable Timing Control (VTC) aspect of i-VTEC allows for continuously variable phasing of the intake camshaft, which helps improve engine torque, promote a smooth engine idle, and create an internal exhaust gas recirculation effect for reduced smog-forming emissions (NOx).

For 2010, power and efficiency improvements result from the engine's compression ratio increasing to 10:5:1 from 9.7:1, fuel injectors with a finer spray pattern, larger intake valves, spark plugs with extended electrodes, friction-reducing piston rings, higher-precision timing sensor and a higher flow-rate exhaust system.

The CR-V comes standard with an electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission that uses an active lockup torque converter. Wide overall ratios help maximize acceleration in gears one through four and optimize fuel economy in its overdrive fifth gear.
Grade Logic Control helps to reduce gear "hunting" on hilly roads. The available Real Time™ 4WD system - ideal for enhanced traction on snow, rain, dirt roads and sandy conditions - sends power to the rear wheels when needed. Real Time 4WD's always-ready and fully automatic dual pump system hydraulically proportions rear wheel torque via multi-plate clutches. The Maintenance Minder system will indicate that the dual-pump fluid should be changed at about 60,000 miles.

The CR-V is available in three model choices, each offered in either front-wheel drive or Real Time 4WD. Standard comfort and convenience features on the CR-V LX include air conditioning with air-filtration system, keyless entry, tilt and telescopic steering column, cruise control, power windows with auto-up/down driver's window, power door and tailgate locks, AM/FM/CD audio system with four speakers, fuel economy meter and 17-inch steel wheels.

The CR-V EX adds a one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature, chrome grille and rear license plate trim, rear privacy glass, security system, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, dual-deck cargo shelf, audio system with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and six speakers, exterior temperature indicator, vanity mirror lights (new), digital compass (new), and 17-inch alloy wheels (new design).

The CR-V EX-L adds leather-trimmed seats and armrests, heated front seats, body-colored side mirrors and door handles, XM® Radio3, a USB Audio Interface (new), and auto on/off headlights (new). Available on the CR-V EX-L is the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Recognition and rearview camera, which also adds premium audio system with 7-speakers including subwoofer and Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, center console storage unit (replaces retractable center tray), and a 6-disc CD changer in the center console (replaces in-dash changer).

Comparison: 2010 GMC Terrain vs 2010 Honda CR-V vs 2010 Hyundai Tucson vs 2010 Subaru Forester
Four of a Kind: Can Hyundai's All-New Tucson Outduel a Benchmark, the Latest from the General, and a Former Sport/Utility of the Year?

In May 2008, the last time we compared the crop of naturally aspirated four-cylinder compact crossovers, the all-new third-generation Subaru Forester handily conquered the likes of Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Saturn VUE, and Toyota RAV4. Fluke? Hardly. The small-but-stout Subaru only went on to snatch our coveted 2009 Sport/Utility of the Year award.

Since those victories, however, the Forester has happily basked in its glory and evolved, um, not at all. Under the sheetmetal reside the same 2.5-liter, 170-horse flat-four, the same four-speed automatic, and the same AWD system. Conversely, the crossover field has since been recast with new and updated players. The RAV4, for instance, received a power bump from 166 horses to 179, and the CR-V's pony count rose from 166 to 180. Then there are the new kids on the block: GM's fraternal twins, Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain, and Hyundai's second-gen Tucson. The General's offspring get 182 direct-injected horses and up to 32 mpg highway, while the stylish South Korean answers with 176 ponies and as much as 31 mpg.

To see which crossover now sits atop this feverish fray, we brought back our residing champ and pitted it against the more muscular CR-V, the all-new Terrain, and the promising Tucson. The Rogue failed to prevail in the last go-'round and received no significant changes, so we did not extend an invitation. And, of course, 2009 was the last year for the Saturn VUE. As for the Equinox and RAV4, we wanted both, but neither was available in four-cylinder/all-wheel-drive guise. Perhaps next time.

Until then, let's focus on this contest. After all, the winner may very well surprise you.

SPORT/UTILITY OF THE YESTERYEAR
As mentioned, the Forester entered this battle as something of a favorite, what with it taking our SUOTY calipers just 12 months ago. But a year is a long time, and a lot can happen in that span -- like an award-winner finishing fourth in a four-car comparison. (Before you start typing angry letters, berating us for getting it wrong, let us remind you that the 224-horse XT turbo played a huge factor in earning the Forester's crown.) This is not to say we no longer like, appreciate, and respect the Forester -- far from it. Rather, in light of new and revised offerings, we simply like, appreciate, and respect it a bit less.

In May 2008's test, the Forester's 170 horsepower and 20/26-mpg fuel economy put it near the top of the class. In this 2010 shindig, however, those numbers place it dead last. Further, 2008's test vehicle, a 3308-pound 2.5X Premium, scrambled from 0 to 60 in 9.9 seconds, or a full tick ahead of the VUE. Fast forward 22 months, our 2010 tester -- a 3311-pound 2.5X Premium -- proved considerably quicker (9.3 seconds), but was nonetheless slower than all three of its foes. Whereas before the Subaru's four-speed automatic was competitive, now it seems conspicuously uncompetitive. "Four-speed auto?" questions editor at large Arthur St. Antoine. "C'mon, Subaru. Hyundai has a six-speed." With the XT's turbo, Subaru can get away with the four-speed, but with the X's naturally aspirated mill, it's no longer cutting it.

What is cutting it, though, are the Forester hallmarks that helped make it a SUOTY -- 2400-pound towing capacity, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, 0.81g lateral acceleration, 34.4-foot turning circle, and $25,294 as-tested price -- all tops in this field. That said, had we gotten a more appropriate Forester, a comparably equipped $26,690 2.5X Limited optioned with nav, premium audio, and satellite radio, the price would have been just under $30,000.

It's likely that for 2011 the Forester will undergo a significant freshening, adopting Subaru's new CVT in favor of the four-speed and a styling update inside and out. To be competitive again, it needs all of the above.

ALL-TERRAIN
"After driving the Terrain," says contributor Mike Connor, "I really wish we'd gotten the Equinox. I like the way the GMC drives, but I don't care for how it looks; it just appears so long and boxy, whereas the Chevy looks lean and sporty." Assistant Web producer Scott Evans notes, "I like the interior styling, but it feels cramped inside. With the sunroof pocket in the ceiling, the small windows, the big pillars all the way around, and the wide center console, it feels almost claustrophobic." Truck Trend editor Allyson Harwood adds, "Decent six-speed, but I'd prefer to shift manually with paddles rather than that silly plus/minus button on the side of the shifter." Catch our drift? There's a lot we like about the Terrain, but...

First and foremost, the price. With such niceties as nav, backup camera, leather, 18-inch wheels, Bluetooth, sunroof, and power liftgate, the Terrain is more than just well equipped. But at $29,945, it carries the highest base price, and at $34,170, it carries the highest as-tested price. But the real kicker: The Tucson includes all those items, sans the dispensable power liftgate, for a whopping $4680 less.

Then there are the Terrain's lackluster test numbers. Despite having the most horsepower and best highway mpg number, it puts up neither the quickest acceleration nor the top observed fuel economy. The culprit? Make that culprits, as in 4035 of them: The Terrain is 724 pounds portlier than the Forester. The styling too is a bit heavy-on the eyes, that is. "Exterior design is a real puzzler," says St. Antoine. "Square wheel arches? Makes the body-to-tire gaps look huge along the top."

Gripes aside, we did find the Terrain an impressive rig when on the move. St. Antoine remarks, "Supple chassis, with good control and solid steering feel." Evans adds, "I'd call it the sports car of the group, as it handles the best on pavement." If it weren't for the hefty price, disappointing performance stats, and elephantine curb weight, the Terrain would have scored higher. But those are big ifs.

UNDER THE TUCSON SUN

The Tucson is Hyundai's first crossover to be designed and engineered in Europe, and it shows. From the integrated side-mirror turn repeaters and the three-flash lane-change signals to the Fluidic Sculpture design language and split-spoke 18-inch alloys, the Tucson emanates a personality that could only come from across the Atlantic. And we like it. "Easily the best-looking vehicle of the bunch, inside and out. More than that, the new Tucson is head and shoulders above the old model in design and quality," says Evans. "Love the shark-like surfacing on the sides," adds St. Antoine.

Hyundai aimed for high style and succeeded. It also aimed for a sporty personality and succeeded there as well. "It's obvious Hyundai went the sporty route with the new Tucson -- the dynamics feel aggressive," says Connor. The test numbers back up this claim. The Tucson's 0-to-60 (8.8 seconds) and quarter-mile (16.7 seconds at 82.8 mph) times were best of the group, and its lateral acceleration (0.79 g), figure eight (28.5 seconds at 0.58 g), and 60-to-0 braking (120 feet) trail only those of the lightweight Forester. Moreover, of the four CUVs here, the Tucson manages to stay flattest through corners, the byproduct of a firm suspension.

Those taut suspenders, sad to say, don't pay dividends in the ride department. Here the Hyundai comes across as too aggressive, transmitting rather than absorbing road imperfections. "Suspension is overly taut and not nearly as composed as the Honda's or GMC's," says St. Antoine. Our judges found fault with the Tucson's electric power steering, as well. "Steering feels artificial, with too many blips in the arc," claims Connor. Other than the ride and steering, and some second-rate interior plastics and seat stitching, there was nothing to fault. The 2.4-liter is refined and peppy, the six-speed silky smooth and responsive, and the price shock and awe. Try to find another under-$30,000 CUV with Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, nav, panoramic sunroof, heated leather seats, satellite radio, and brake hill-hold and hill-descent control. Let us help -- it doesn't exist.

The Tucson will inevitably inherit the new Sonata's direct-injected 200-horse 2.4-liter engine within a couple years. So once Hyundai addresses the stiff ride and artificial steering, look out.

PREMIUM PRECISION
"This is when Honda is getting it all right," says Harwood of the CR-V. Indeed, the Honda's resume utterly impressed our discerning crew. The tweaked-for-'10 DOHC 2.4-liter, which utilizes a higher 10.5:1 compression ratio, larger intake valves, and a higher flow-rate exhaust to swell horsepower to 180, was rated the envy of the assembled 16-valvers. "I adore this engine," says Evans. "Loves to rev and produces good power across the band, making the CR-V feel like the fastest of the group even though it isn't."

Perhaps the steering, lauded for its organic, nicely weighted heft that made the Honda "a pleasure to carve through the mountain roads around Wrightwood," per St. Antoine, played a role in making the CR-V feel deceptively quick. And unlike the Tucson, whose ride was at times jarring, the Honda's proved supple, well mannered, and responsive, whether on pavement or dirt. "The most fun to drive off-road and great on pavement too," concludes Evans.

Inside the rich, well-executed cabin, which comes replete with nav, backup camera, Bluetooth, satellite radio, heated leather seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control, the Honda's talent show continues. "Surprising elegance at this price level," says Harwood. Evans claims, "Best interior materials in the group. From the quality of the leather to the plastics, the Honda is way above the rest." Connor notes, "Great interior packaging with lots of space (feels wide inside), a roomy, reclining back seat, the most cargo room (love the shelf), and useful storage bins in the center console and dash."

Of course, there were a few traits we didn't love. The five-speed auto, for example, lacked a manual mode and shifted with a slight harshness that didn't exist with the Tucson's six-speed. Some found the brakes a wee bit touchy, the styling so-so, and the cartridge-style six-CD changer outdated. But that's the extent of it.

"In a class by itself in quality feel, classy interior materials, and carefully wrought details -- looks and feels like a premium piece,"
says St. Antoine. Harwood summarizes the Honda as follows: "This isn't just the smart decision when looking at crossovers, it appeals to the emotions too. Both sides of the brain would be very happy with the CR-V." True enough.
1ST PLACE: HONDA CR-V 4WD EX-L
Composed chassis, premium materials, and a jewel of an engine equal winner.

2ND PLACE: HYUNDAI TUCSON AWD LIMITED
Stiff ride and spotty steering handicap an otherwise quick, agile, and choice CUV.

3RD PLACE: GMC TERRAIN AWD SLT-1
GM's boxy newcomer is fun to drive and feature laden, but too heavy and too costly.

4TH PLACE: SUBARU FORESTER 2.5X PREMIUM PZEV
With archaic four-speed and basement power, the former champ shows its age.

Interesting. A diesel would have made this that much better.

I got all excited for a minute when I read the title, then opened the thread and realized the diesel was old news, and not for the US.

CRV with 5speed auto beat Tucson with 6speed auto in fuel economic despite having 180 lbs more weight and nearly equal or better in performance upto 100mph. it is the statistic at last page that made the difference. and i am petty sure Honda engines over 100k mileslife will better.
