That interior, IMO The angles are all over the place.
Good fuel economy but no change to HP? Not impressed.
Si, I was hoping for more than 200, as was hinted at by a few.
No 'nice' surprises here unfortunately. Honda punted instead of going for it. Maybe not a bad idea. Let the market decide.

Whoa, they look alot less cool when they aren't lowered, with big rims, tinted windows, and blacked out headlights.

Whats up with RDX owners?

Styling is subjective. Personally, not a fan. Maybe in a different color and in person it will look better. But the fuel economy numbers are pretty good.
Still wish they did a bit more with the K24.

@ the Civic Outbacks. those wheels are ginormous looking.
the interior shot looks like it's warping right before my eyes. I know it's driver-oriented but it's a little extreme.

Well, styling wise I prefer the Focus, Cruze, Mazda 3 and Elantra. Sedan of course. I just don't see anything compelling here at all. With a very sub par interior design.
But, like you guys said will keep sales strong because its a winning formula. Although I wouldn't buy one. And the sedan's rear end it the weak link IMO. Much prefer the current rear end.

The 1.8-liter gasoline engine Civic HF that goes on sale in a few months should get 41 miles per gallon in highway driving, Honda said today.
LOS ANGELES (Bloomberg) -- Honda Motor Co. will start the U.S. sale of 2 versions of its best-selling Civic compact that are more fuel-efficient than the current models as Japan's 3rd- biggest carmaker aims to regain the fuel-economy lead in the small car segment.
The 1.8-liter gasoline engine Civic HF that goes on sale in a few months should get 41 miles per gallon in highway driving, Honda said today in a statement.
That compares with 36 mpg for the current gasoline-powered Civic.
The 2012 Civic Hybrid, which gets a lithium-ion battery pack for the 1st time, should average 45 mpg in combined city and highway driving, 4 mpg more than for the current model, the company said.
The new Civics will help Honda fend off challenges from Hyundai Motor Co. after the South Korean automaker set a goal in 2008 of surpassing Honda and Toyota Motor Corp. in overall efficiency.
Hyundai late last year began selling a revamped Elantra small car that averages 40 mpg on the highway, topping both the Civic and Toyota's Corolla.
The current Civic line includes gasoline-engine DX, LX and EX grade sedans and coupes, the Civic Hybrid and natural gas-powered GX sedans.
The 2012 HF and Hybrid models will differ in appearance from other grades owing to "aerodynamic components for improved efficiency," the company said without elaborating.
The cars go on sale "this spring," Honda said, without giving pricing information.
Honda told its U.S. dealers earlier this month at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention that the new Civic will go on sale in April.
The company showed concept versions of the Civic sedan and coupe in Detroit in January.
Toyota's Prius hybrid, the top-selling alternative-power car for a decade, delivers a 50 mpg in combined city and highway driving, according to U.S. government tests.

the gti only has 200 hp, but then again it has more torques and the engine I'm guessing is just better than the engine they put in the si.
Point is 200 hp is not that bad. It depends more on how the engine is configured. Which we dont know per say. I hope they changed some stuff from the carry over.

Cruze, looks good for a 2001 car, but this is 2011.
Elantra, has that Hyundai/KIA sagging butt, taking a dump look they are all adopting. Plus all that mantaray grill is already old.
Then, all three have a center stack design that looks like they copied a 2002 Accord, then added some Klingon bling.

I'm not digging the Insight shape to the sedan but I do like the powertrain offerings. Coupe looks like a smaller version of the Altima coupe. I love the torque increase (I know: sacrilege in a Honda forum) in the Si.
Although the enthusiast in me wouldn't mind seeing a K23/SH-AWD variant to go against the WRX (read: Civic GSX ), 200hp is more than sufficient for a compact car.

Focus, awful looking. Especially the hatch version and those HUGE tail lights. The catfish, cowcatcher front grill is way over the top.

To put things into perspective and actually say something positive about this car. The 12 Corolla which its the Civic's main competition is not only uglier, but still only gets 26/34 and uses a 4sp AT.

Interesting....

K24 Peak of 180 vs 192 and 159 vs 139 lb-ft. Interesting about Honda possibly adding some power to newer MY Si's.

We still haven't driven the 2012 Si, but we've been hearing for a while that it would run essentially the same engine that's found underhood of the 2011 TSX, so by good fortune, I'm driving a 2011 TSX 6MT this week and just dyno tested it. Also, 2 weeks ago, I happened to borrow a 2011 Civic Si from Honda, and I dyno tested that as well. Below, you can see a comparison of the two engines on the dyno - a virtual comparison of sorts. While the K20Z3 zings well on past the K24's peak horsepower, it looks like the K24 makes considerably more power on average (area below the curve). By the way, the reason I borrowed the 2011 Civic Si is because Shawn Church told me he had just dynoed a 2011 Civic Si (customer car) and in bone stock form it put down 14 more hp than any other Civic Si he had previously tested. The "bone stock" curve on the '11 Si I tested obliterates the results of my own 2008 Civic Si, so it seems like Honda has possibly made some unannounced enhancements to the K20Z at some point. Now's the time to snap up whatever inventory remains on the '11 Sis, folks!
Note that while the K24Z3 crushes the K20Z3 pretty much everywhere between 3000 and 6000 rpm, in the '11 Civic Si you never dip much below 6000 rpms if you upshift at the rev limiter, so the outright difference in straightline speed may not be as dramatic as the curves would lead you to believe. The K24 will obviously offer much more flexibility, providing superior acceleration for those times when you are unable to get the needed revs to make the K20Z3 shine.

Have you ever owned a Honda that revved to 8K? And no, you don't have to drive around above 6K all day. The car is perfectly drivable around town at lower RPM's.
But I can see why Honda went they route they did. They have to please the masses.

neither have I but I want to. I will admit, I say the torque is too low on that thing, but revving the crap out of a car is fun, not that I do it that often more for reliability issues. And its not ricerboyish, its spirited driving..

You know what, I think Honda marketing/photography people f***** it up again with the photos.....the wheel gap is not that huge on the actual car...
On the other hand, 192whp for the 2011 Si..nice..considering it's rated at 197hp at the crank.

the cars in the pictures probably had the shipping things in. Forgot the exact name. I really doubt the si rides that high.

Anyways............I wanted to see how the Civic compare to other cars in the segment:
2012 Civic (140hp): --/39, --/41
2011 Elantra (148hp): 29/40
2011 Chevy Cruze ECO (138hp): 26/37
2011 Mazda3 2.0 (148hp): 25/33
2011 Mitsubishi Lancer (148hp): 25/33
2011 Nissan Sentra (140hp): 27/34
2011 Toyota Corolla (132hp): 28/35
2011 VW Jetta 6AT (115hp): 23/29
2011 VW Jetta 5MT (115hp): 24/34
2012 Ford Focus (160hp): 26/37 (Ford is claiming that SFE model will get 40mpg hwy)
The numbers are from fueleconomy.gov. I'm using the BEST numbers available for each car (ie, if the AT model is more efficient, I will use the numbers from the AT model; and if the ECO model is more efficient, I will use those numbers).
The current Civic can do 0-60mph in 7.7s. I'd like to know what the new Civic can do considering it hasn't grown in size (and so I'd assume the weight gain should not be that big). Lancer is another relatively fast car, as it can do 0-60mph in 7.8s. Elantra 6AT takes 8.6s. The Jetta takes over 11 seconds.

At first, when the concepts were revealed, I was intrigued. Now that I see these photos of the '12 Civics on the shipping trucks, I find absolutely nothing appealing on it.
The back just really looks like a Corolla's to me and the front doesn't even look that different.
I remember saying that I wonder how the cars would look in a months time, after the design settles in the mind. That time's come. And it certainly doesn't hold any appeal to me anymore, whereas initially, I thought I wouldn't mind getting one of those.

Ford Focus dont have enough rear legroom and i doubt it will as comfortable as wheel base is shorter. and than there is long term reliability.
Elantra is simply unrefined and dont have multilink suspension setup.

2011 Chevy Cruze ECO (138hp): 26/37 - According to GM, Cruze ECO is rated at 28/42
2011 Mazda3 2.0 (148hp): 25/33 - Mazda just announced a new DI engine for the 12' 3. No MPG specs announced yet.
