The sizzle in the Steak
So wait.....Honda went back to the drawing board for another year to "revamp" the new civic......and it looks like we get the same civic....with a longer front overhang?

Pretty much. Typical honda as of late playing catchup with horrible designs. This thing will be out 1 year before it gets a MMC

4g TL is much larger and taller vehicle than 3G TL. So it can afford to have overhangs. I am not completely sold on 4G TL design.

Well can't blame them...they don't have a choice...either way, they will still get shafted...they have been receiving some strong negative feedback regarding their recent designs.....the current Civic seems to be the only good looking Honda according to people on the internet so I guess Honda figured out that may be it's not a bad idea to just keep the current design and simply make a few changes.

Fit and CR-V look good.

Safety Car
2 Tier
After seeing a handful of spy shots of the next-generation Euro-spec Honda Civic, the North American car is finally starting to show up out roaming the heat-soaked roads of Death Valley. When the new Civic arrives next year, it won't be that much larger than the current car, and the overall shape looks to have stayed the same, though substantial changes to the front and rear fascias are definitely on deck.
Our spies were able to get a peek inside the Civic's cabin, showing that the 2-tiered dash theme from the current car will likely be carried over to the new Civic. This means we can expect a digital speedometer on the top shelf with an analog tach below, and while we've never been big fans of this arrangement, it has its adherents among Civic fans.
We're not expecting to see the Civic debut until sometime in 2011, possibly at the Detroit or New York auto shows.

more of the same? what exactly has been changed with this car for them to delay the intro?
#1493
from what I can tell, Honda has taken more risks with this evolution. think of the CR-V vs the old CR-V. Now i admit the CR-V from certain angle is downright ugly, but it actually looks pretty decent (by Honda standards) from most other views, especially the side and rear.
So i think it's going to be the same here. And I'm glad it's getting smaller. I remember seeing one try to parallel park, and I think it was a 7th gen Accord that was parallel with it, and the Civic was the same size as the Accord.

oh, but it still won't win the beauty pageant against that new Elantra. that's a hard one to beat in this segment, no one even comes close.

Does anybody else think the spy shots kind of remind them of a Nissan Sentra? For some reason I keep thinking Nissan Sentra when I look at the spy pictures.
#1498
if by "remind" you see a sedan silhouette and 4 doors, then yes. otherwise I don't see anything through all that camouflage.

It must have been a real abomination for them to delay it - I assume they had the drive train options sorted out already, tho some of that may have been tweaked as well during the delay - Honda needs to at least match the competition in term of mileage.

No worries kids.....Honda did hardly anything with the interior and exterior.....but under the hood Honda went nuts!! 2.0 litre turbo w/ 6 speed manual or 7 speed dual clutch gearboxes.....and Vtec 2.0 Zooooooooooooom!

Si
The all-new 2012 Honda Civic is getting closer to its introduction in 2011, and with each passing day our spies continue to find more evidence that the Japanese automaker is hard at work testing several variants of its popular compact car.
The most recent spy shots show the new coupe design for the 1st time ever, with an added twist as well: this is the high-performance Si model! At 1st glance our spies figured they had just captured the 1st-ever shots of the standard Civic Coupe model, but upon closer inspection, it became obvious that this was in fact the range-topping, performance-minded Si trim level.
Another key feature is the obvious use of large rear disc brakes, something that was not used on the standard Civic for the outgoing model. The spy shots we have acquired of the latest sedan in testing used wheels that hid the rear brakes, so at this time we can’t confirm whether or not rear disc will be used across the lineup.
When examining the interior shot which revealed the uncovered seats, we noticed unique red striping on the seats along with substantial bolstering and the tell-tale “Si” badging being covered by a piece of black vinyl. This confirms that Honda is intending to continue to the tradition of the Si model, and may possibly include the Si model in the lineup available at launch.
Also revealed in these shots is the front fascia, which seems to borrow heavily from the more pointed design previously used on the now discontinued Acura RSX. Unlike the RSX, however, this coupe seems to have a much larger lower grille opening, possibly for the increased necessity for airflow to the engine.
The overall shape of the car appears to be very much the same as the outgoing model, although the doors have clearly received a new style – just like the 4-door variant.

oh man they gave the coupe those elephant ears side mirrors from the sedan. worst move ever.

Where's SSFTSX to tell me about the side mirror design being vastly superior to anything out there including the cheap Equus even though no one has tested this car, but the engineers.

^ are you on a widescreen monitor? at work mine is a widescreen and the proportions look really bad, but at my home computer whose monitor isn't widescreen, it looks better.
to me the coupe silhouette now looks like a baby Accord coupe.

Whats up with RDX owners?

I like the seats on the Si. But I need to wait for the Civic to hit the dealers before I can comment on the looks.

Honda Canada invited some auto writers to a media roundtable the other night, looking for feedback on what the consumer is thinking.
While we emphasized the demand for technology that works as simply as the iPhone and iPad (and connects to them too) as well as more clean diesel engines, the more interesting news of the night was the confirmation the 2012 Honda Civic will be unveiled this fall at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Calling the new car "beautiful" and an evolution rather than revolution like the current model, Jerry Chenkin, Executive Vice President of Honda Canada, said he had driven the new Civic and that it would "set a new standard" for interior excellence. He said the new Civic will have "better numbers" all around, but wouldn't elaborate, saying only that the same body styles currently offered would continue.
The new Civic is a year late after Honda's new president Takanobu Ito took one look at what was to be the 2011 Civic and went "yeck." Chenkin said the car would likely be in showrooms by May 2011 as a 2012 model year car. As much as we tried for more info on the Civic, it wasn't coming, even after we plied Mr. Chenkin with red wine. He did admit under torturous questioning, however, that the 2010 Honda Insight hybrid was an "unmitigated disaster" because it was lacking the quality and value usually found in a Honda. That's frank talk from a car-company executive, but he is absolutely right. When was the last time you saw an Insight?
Exactly.
