Does anyone know where I could find a news/forum site that deals with the non-US Civic Type-R?

I haven't been successful in finding any good information sites.

I would like to know more about these cars, and why the F(&* they aren't in the US. Sorry about the profanity, but I've been following the 2005 Sub Legacy threads around the 'net and I'm just getting upset with this USDM, JDM, EDM crap.

Thanks in advance.

'04 Civic Si/Insight finish production, si coupe returns

Source: TOV News
Credibility Rating: 10

We've received confirmation that the '04 Civic Si and Insight models are wrapping up their run for the model year. The factories will stop accepting orders after the March allocation and final deliveries for both models are scheduled for May of '04.

What does this mean? Well, while we'd like to think they're clearing the way for a Type R model, it's probably more of a reflection of the Si's slow selling rate. It is not uncommon for low production models (such as the Insight and Si) to have early "build outs".

Another item of interest for fans of the Si is that dealers have been told that the next generation Civic Si will be offered in a 2-door (coupe) body style once again, with "improved peformance".

With a I-4 giving a whooping 180hp. The SRT-4 is now the car to beat in that class.

An "improved performance" Civic would be nice. As long as it has as least 200+ hp and does not look like a mini minivan.

The SI was a failer from the second it was brought over here. The thing never sold well, was underpowered, and quite frankly ugly as hell. I dont know what honda was thinking. The insight has been around for a while, and although this will be the end of the line for this gen, i definitly see a second gen coming with the new prius out and selling well and wining all types of awards. I beleve the next gen civic is schedualed for the 06 model year, cause if it was an 05 we woudl have prob scene some type of spy shots of it and they just gave the civic a re-fresh this year. I can see and SI edition of the next gen civic coming in 07.

ya kno....if honda dropped that si engine in the current gen civic coupe instead of that fugly hatch, I GUARANTEE that there would be 3x as many new si's on the road now

going from 2dr coupe 2 an ugly hatch was the dumbest thing honda has done in recent years (honda brand wise)

werd

that 2 door hatch was ugly. the highest power engine in the coupe right now is only about 127hp so no wonder Civic sales are slow.

Too little too late for Honda. Would have been a hot seller if Honda would have released it 3 years ago in the US. Cars like the SRT-4 have blown the poor Civic-R away.

I dont understand the point of them showing this when they already confermed that this is the last model year or the SI which is the only model to use the hatchback body style (which is ugly as sin) so therefore, whats the point of this if they are gonna stop production?...unless they are gonna keep that style in europe and drop it in the us only. But otherwise, based on the fact that they are stoping production in america, i woudl bet my life you wont see a civic type r in america with this generation body style.

Times have changed. Maybe 3-4 years ago, this would have ben hot. But for 2004, this is okay. The Euro press though, has always like the Type-R except for the van like styling.

honda better come out with something to match the performance of the srt-4. In 98 the SI was hot because it had no comp, but now the other car makers have stepped up.

Civic Study Model at Geneva

New Civic Beauty - - By Chris Thorp - - - Source: Autoexpress

Look at the front end of the latest new Honda, and you'd be forgiven for thinking it's just another sporty three-door Civic. But cast your eye towards the rear and you'll see this model has five doors and room for all the family. And just check out that striking bodykit!

Displayed to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show this week, this is the Civic Study Model - and it's been designed with one thing in mind: to highlight exactly how racy a practical Honda can be.

Designed by the Japanese company's European Accessories Division, the nose has been given a sharp new look with a deep front bumper which is finished in carbon fibre. Both the grille and inner headlight mounts also come in black, a theme which is continued through to the side skirts.

The Civic's rear end is finished with twin centrally mounted chrome exhaust pipes and a beefed-up rear bumper. In profile, the styling is dominated by imposing 18-inch alloy wheels and wild flared wheelarch extensions.

Not content with adding some visual excitement to the practical Civic's bodywork, the designers have gone to work on the cabin, too. Inside, sports seats borrowed from the range-topping Type R models have been fitted, trimmed in black leather with silver inserts.

The dash has also been modified, with a unique sports steering wheel, matching console-mounted gearknob and carbon fibre-effect panels. And the performance-oriented cabin is further enhanced by drilled aluminium pedals for the ultimate hot hatch appearance.

So does this mean customers can look forward to a Type R-badged five-door Civic? Apparently not. According to Honda, the sought after sporting flagship badge will be available only on the less practical three-door variant for the foreseeable future.

A spokesman for Honda told Auto Express: "The company likes having these concepts because it generates interest in the brand. If there is enough interest, then features similar to those seen here could find their way on to future models." For any visitors to the Swiss exhibition who need more space than a Civic can provide, but don't want to lose out on sporty styling, Honda will also be displaying its bodykitted diesel-powered Accord Tourer at Geneva. The company took the wraps off this model at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September.
