Honda Canada 05 Vehicle Pricing

Maybe its just me but I don't recall seeing such big increases in MY to MY from Honda Canada.

For example

Accord Sedan EX-L V6 from $32,700 for the 04 to $33,600 for the 05 +$900

Accord Coupe 6MT V6 from $33,800 for the 04 to $34,300 for the 05 +$500

Accord Sedan EX-L from $29,600 for the 04 to $30,100 for the 05 $+500

Pilot EX-L from $43,000 for the 04 to $44,000 for the 05 +$1,000

Acura RSX Type S from $31,400 for the 04 to $33,000 for the 05 +$1,600

In the past, increases have always been $200 - $300 max. I'm sure a stronger Canadian dollar has alot to do with this but does Honda feel the Market will bear the increased prices? They better hope so.

The dolar definitely does have something to do with it but I'd also like to point out this thread again: http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7780

Never saw that thread. So I guess steel plays a part in it as well.

So its about certain we'll see a $500 to $900 increase in TSX pricing then.

The trend seems to be add a couple cheap features to hide the increase in materials cost. Heated mirrors and power passenger seat are good examples. People might be willing to pay $500 for both of those items but the cost to add them is negligible. It makes the increase not look as bad.

Does anybody really make this comparison when shopping for a car? That is, compare it to last year's price? Aren't they more likely to compare to the competition and choose the best value? Most people don't buy a new car every year. If steel prices are on the rise, that should affect all manufacturers more or less the same.

I don't think Honda is sitting on much inventory for any of their models, so that's a good sign that the market is willing to bear some price increases.

I just did.

And this was really more of an observation to find out why there were such big price increases.

Recently Toyota is in the habit of increasing content without raising prices 1 cent.

Toronto, Ontario - Toyota has added two popular features to its RAV4 "Plus" and "Chili Plus" option packages at no extra charge for 2005 models.

Heated leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, which have a value of $1,655, have been added to the "Plus" package which also includes an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), privacy glass and fog lamps.

A power tilt and slide moonroof, with a value of $1,160, has been added to the "Chili Plus" package which also includes a premium sound system, privacy glass and aluminum sport pedals.

CDN dollar

Seems to me a stronger CDN $ should result in _lower_ prices not higher.

The dollar does fluctuate realative to the US $, so I suspect they make a guess as to what the average will be and price things accordingly, but genearlly the C$ has been stronger.
