It depends on the source. Edmunds got the same 7.0 seconds for a regular Accord V6 a few years ago.

Lightbulb Honda Accord diesel sets new World Records (92MPG normal driving)

this is an old news but it was not posted here...

Honda's new Accord 2.2i-CDTi Sport set 19 world speed records this week, including a 92mpg economy run.

A pair of standard Honda Accords, fitted only with a roll-cage, racing harnesses and car-to-pit radios as their only modifications, took part in the record-breaking attempts at Papenburg high-speed oval test track in north-west Germany.

Driven by British racing driver Robin Liddell, the Accord achieved 133.04mph with a 1 mile flying start, 84.25 mph with a 1 mile standing start, and an average speed of 130.38 mph over a 24-hour endurance period.

The same two cars were then driven 419 miles from Papenburg test track to Wiesbaden, near Frankfurt in order to complete the fuel economy run. The route comprised of a mixture of motorway and non-motorway driving, during which one of the Accords achieved a staggering 92 mpg average.

Honda UK's driver in the speed record attempt, Robin Liddell, who has previously raced at Le Mans 24-hours, as well as the American Le Mans Series and the BRDC British GT championship, commented: "The car's performance is very impressive, demonstrated by the records we've achieved. Honda has made real steps forward in styling, ergonomics and interior design with the new Accord Diesel and now has a package that can take on the best cars in its class."

i will have to buy diesel one as soon as the swedish government lower the taxes on diesel cars. Yesterday i paid 1.8$ per liter for 98 octane.

That diesel is sweet! I really wish they'd bring it to the US. I could use one of those right about now with all of the long distance driving I do. The only diesels we really get in the US are small VW's for the most part (and not the cool euro diesel engines that make way more power), and VW's are known to have pretty lousy reliability.

84.25 mph with a 1 mile standing start? I guess that must be the average speed through the mile then, heh.

Nearly $7/gallon. Ouch.
It'd cost ~$100 to fill up the CL.

My guess is that 92mpg average claim is a big disingenuous ... It's probably a 92mpg average over a very short period of time, like a couple of minutes and not the entire trip.

So taking a conservative 60mpg, with the TSX's 17.1 gallon gas tank, I can go over 1000 miles in one trip?

Its interesting, Honda Uk's site lists this as the economy for the cdti, offer this is the Us would spark a lot of interest in diesel.

I think the 92mpg record was regular US gallons but the above UK numbers might be imperial gallons.

Regardless, the point of being able to get around 50mpg in a good looking affordable family sedan with decent performance should be eye opening to many diesel doubters.

Those pictures are so blurry it is hard to tell if that really is a refreshed Accord or a Galant test mule.

if that's the Accord, the rear-end alone looks like a very expensive refresh

Very CTS-like 3rd brake light. Way too big for a Civic - the car to the left is a 4 gen Accord. I think this would be way too early for a new Accord. MY 07 would be the earliest a new Accord would be out - unless Honda is really paniced by the low sales and are bringing it out early.

Can't anyone park properly there days.....

I was driving around, and figured I'd start noticing some cars' rear ends just to see if I could pinpoint what this car could possibly be (I really don't think it's an Accord). The closest was the Mitsubishi Galant. I can't find a pic on the web that matches the exact angle of this pic, but it appears the match the closest.

That rear end change is pretty big - more than the usual refresh. Any kind of sheet metal change is expensive. Usually they just change the plastic facias - much cheaper. And putting the 3rd brake light on the trunk lip like that is also expensive (more than the usual spot inside the rear window). But maybe Honda listened to all folks complaining about the butt and did something about it.

Given the spare spots around kinda ironic that they choose to park between two other Hondas.

If you take a close look at the exhaust pipes, it has the same pipes as TSX or Accord coupe.

This update to the rear end of the Accord is really quite a bit better than the current Accord's rear. It was really the one thing that was really wrong about the design. The other thing they should do is update the front fascia and give it a meaner more agressive look.

Just realized, who is the designer at Honda? This way we can properly blame someone for that ugly butt - a la Bangle butt for BMW.

The guy who snapped these shots gave a little more info over at TOV. He's 99% sure the taillights are LEDs. I think that's gonna be hot.

On the other hand, I honestly don't understand people. They go out of their way to take a photo of a new car on their cell phone, but won't get out of their car for 30sec to photograph the entire car left alone in a parking garage unattended.

It might as well be a hyundai from the pics.

ntice368:
"This is my first post so bear with me, lol. Today I was at woodfield mall, and my friend & I walked past a car with tape covering part of the tail lights and anything that would show a car manufacturer symbol. My friend (who knows absolutely nothing about cars) asked me where the "h" symbol was, and I told her I thought it was an acura at first. Once i saw the side profile it kinda looked excactly like the accord but with just a different backend. I could tell you this, I'm 99% sure that the tail lights were LEDs. I wanna say that it is an accord. But then again honda somewhat updated the accord's tail lights for 2005 so I don't know why they would update it again. Maybe it's not even a honda at all, who knows? I only took two pictures with my camera phone, and I regret not taking more . The first one is really blurry, and the second pic is of the back. "

The only problem imo is, Honda would not go this far for the Accord unless it was a whole new model. We all saw what they did to fix the tail lights for 2005, red plastic instead of clear, but why even do that if this is coming out 6months later? Why would they go again for a refresh in 06 with this if a new model is one or two years away? It all points to this be another model.

That is true about the recent refresh. Hmm, you're the first one to conjure that maybe it's a new model (that Honda Avalon/Maxima some of us have been wishing for, perhaps?). Who knows at this point, but that person who snapped the pics deserve a kick in the family jewels. If I saw a car that may be of news to a lot of people, and there was nothing preventing me from taking pics of it, the least I would do is take a pic of the FRONT, which would make it a lot easier to guess the car.
