GM set to offer employee discount to all customers! **Specific Vehicle Pricing (p1)**
GM set to offer employee discount to all customers - - By K.C. Crain - - Source: Automotive News
Automotive News / May 31, 2005
DETROIT -- Now everyone will get the General Motors employee discount - at least for a month.
According to dealers, GM will offer every customer the chance to get a vehicle at the employee discount rate, starting Wednesday, June 1.
Not all details of the program are known, including whether the new discount replaces or is in addition to cash rebates. The deal applies only to 2005 model year vehicles.
GM has been pushing a variety of discount programs to its employees and suppliers, and allowing them to extend the discount to a limited number of family and friends. The new program greatly expands the scope of the discount, particularly to areas of the country where GM does not have a large presence.
The incentive means customers will be able to get a vehicle at a predetermined percentage below the dealership invoice price. Some dealers say the discount can amount to 4 percent off the invoice price.
The program will cover almost every GM vehicle. The Chevrolet Corvette is excluded.
According to GM, the employee discount is not a fixed amount, and the percentage varies per vehicle.
GM is expected to announce the program Wednesday.

4% off invoice sounds just like a VPP that my company offers for Nissan/Infiniti, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge and Subaru.
Just to give you an idea, for a G35C loaded at about 40K MSRP, the price out the door is around $36.5K. The price is fixed around all dealers. No haggling.

How much do you want to bet that all V-Series cars will also be excluded? No doubt the Z06 will be excluded.
Specifically for the VPP in the case of Infiniti, the G35C was excluded up to last year. Currently the M35/45 is excluded.

This is true, but I think they pushed it back to June 6. I just had an email about it, but deleted it because I'm not looking to by a GM product.
They usually always exlcude Corvettes, Hummers, Saabs, most Cadillacs and most trucks.
Some dealers are worried though that this will screw up sales volumes for the next couple months afterwards.

Would be nice to get a CTS-V at employee price.... the reason I didnt get the G35c is because I couldn't get VPP price, went with the 3rd gen TL instead, I'm happy .

Took this straight from an email I got today.
The program includes all 2005 GM cars and trucks, except for the Chevrolet Corvette, and is compatible with most other incentives currently available.
For the first time in its history, GM is offering its employee discount to everyone who takes delivery of a new 2005 GM car or truck beginning today, June 1, through July 5, 2005.

Were you looking at it before last year? It was included to the VPP only recently.

Now WHY did they exclude the Corvette? And WHY does the corvette not have many discounts, if any?
BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE IT!!
If they just built cars people LIKED, they wouldn't have to discount everything! Can't they get that through thier heads?!?!

GM has no attractive products now with the exception of the Corvette. I can see why they are offering up all the discounts. Everyone knows that GM has a sticker price but I've heard people paying as much as 10k below it. What's the point of having a sticker price if it means practically nothing.
Every time I see someone in a Monte Carlo I say to myself why????? That is one ugly car.

What disappoints me about GM is there lack of engine development. They're still using the old pushrod technology that is well past its prime. It bothers me that American companies including Ford continue with "it's good enough" attitude with there engines. GM and Ford all have extremely under powered and poorly refined cars. Both have made progress in the truck categories but what about the cars. Look and Honda and Nissan engine development the last 2-5 years in both cars and trucks. Both have made a huge effort to continuously developed and lead the industry. I just wish that GM and Ford would step up and do the same.

With that pricing strategy, GM has made a terrible mistake that will haunt them for the next decade. It will take that long or longer to repair. If they started now that is. It's like a devalued currency. Same principle.

I think this is a great deal for cars that did not have any incentives on them before. Like the Cadillac products. I am still shocked that the CTSV is included. That means GM wants to get rid of the 05s quickly for some reason. If there are any left that is.

...around here the GTO is already discounted to those levels...and has been for quite a while.

It's absolutely ridiculous how much they discount their vehicles. When I went in to test drive a new G6 (too see what it was like, my heart is set on the 06 TL however), they offered me over $3000 off sticker, right away, without any talking. I'm sure I could have talked them lower if I wanted to buy that thing. And don't even get me started on Sunfires...retail price in Canada for a loaded one is $24000 about (with all the options). They are selling them at $10995...over $14k off!! No wonder why people buy them...fortunately I can see past their BS stickering and realize that I might as well buy a 96 Accord for the same price, and get more features, more power, and it will last longer...oh yeah, and the 96 Accord will still sell for more when I go to sell it.

Finally...the typical argument of "it will last longer" may be less logical nowadays as compared to 10-20 years ago. What I mean is, dont you want to have the chance to be switching cars more often? Technology changes so fast these day and the number of new offerings has skyrocketed, I am looking for way to get something and prepare the wife at the purchase date about how in 3 years I will need a new car for this and that reason

Have you driven it?
I can afford it right now, but I dont know about it. I have not driven it but I just cant stand the interior, plus the four doors I do not need. If there were a CTCV, a CTSV coupe that is, I'd certainly be pulling the trigger, provided I liked the drive.

I think the car looks sharp. I dont hate or love the interior, its just ok. But the specs of the cars, the vette engine, most people say its a great drive.
I'd be really curious, plus i never see any. I only ever seen one...and I live in LA, where you see everything, a lot.

I feel bad for the people who recently bought a CTSV for sticker
GM is known for killing the resale value on people by offering discounts...
Who's gonna buy a used CTS-V for 40K (or so) now when you can get a new one for about the same price...
Way to go GM for boosting customer satifaction and brand loyality

Hmm prices don't seem right to me.
My father is an Engineer for GM, and the discount is supposed to be 18%.
Before this hit, if I were to go to a dealership and tell them, my dad is a GM employee they have a price list with a price called the GMS price.

I love cars!
Are there different discount levels for employees? It appears to be about 10%, which isn't much, really. Plus, the GTO is supposed to be 32,295 but it shows the price as 34K instead. I called a dealer to verify; so the "employee" price is still a couple grand off. How can we verify that there aren't multiple level discounts such as Ford's A Plan, X Plan, etc.
