Genesis: G90 News
From here: Genesis G90: The Replacement For The Hyundai Equus Teased
It was only a week ago Hyundai confirmed it was forming a new luxury brand under the Genesis name to be made up of models whose names consist of a capital G and a number, 90, 80 or 70 etc., representing their positioning in the lineup. Today, the Korean automaker released teaser sketches for a new G90 which will fill the flagship role of the Genesis brand (in Hyundai’s home market the car will be badged an EQ900). The G90 is essentially the replacement for the Hyundai Equus full-size sedan and we’ve been spying prototypes for over a year. The design is clearly influenced by the recent Vision G concept but we also see some elements borrowed from rival brands, in particular Audi. Hyundai says the G90 is the first model to be styled in line with a new design language called Athletic Elegance, which relies on strong, muscular lines to emphasize a "dynamic, future-orientated" character. Key elements include a hexagonal-shaped grille, sophisticated headlights and the new Genesis logo. No technical details on the G90 have been released but we’re expecting a V-8 engine to be offered, at least here in the United States. It’s possible we also see a new twin-turbocharged V-6 offered at some point. Rear-wheel drive will be standard but Hyundai's HTRAC all-wheel-drive system should be available. A debut is expected to take place in December, while a sales launch in the U.S. will likely happen in the second half of 2016. “Genesis’ new large luxury sedan G90 will deliver a concept of new luxury to our customers,” Hyundai Vice Chairman Woong-Chul Yang said in a statement. “The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand and demonstrates how we apply our human-centered values to give our customer true satisfaction in every aspect of the vehicle ownership experience." Hyundai says the Genesis brand will have six distinct models by 2020. The first is the current Genesis sedan, which will likely be rebranded a G70 when it undergoes its mid-cycle update. It will soon be joined by this G90 plus a next-generation Genesis Coupe, which we’re expecting to be rebranded a G80. The remaining three models will likely include a small sedan and a pair of crossovers. |

Even toned down for production, it will look much better than the current Equus.
|
damn
|
The front-end is pretty spot on, the side/greenhouse isn't as masculine as the rendering.

Hyundai has figured out what Acura has failed to.
This car looks great |
V8 ..... checked.
RWD ..... checked. With the 2 must-have prerequisites in place, looks like the G90 has a chance of being successful as a luxury sedan. |
Not toned down much at all...looks great!
|
The EQ900/G90 got 4,342 pre-orders in Korea within 24 hrs - which is about 3x what the Equus had gotten.
This is a significantly more appealing flagship than the Equus. |
wow. super nice. love the design and the interior.
acura you're dead |
looks good but, still would never own a Hyundai or Kia product
|
Sharp looking interior

Honestly, don't look at the badge for a minute- you're saying you'd choose an RLX over this Genesis? This thing looks badass in comparison, has RWD, a V8, has great warranty and reliability, is cheaper and is packed with a ton of stuff you'd expect in a luxury car. What's there to hate? The "H" on the front? People used to say the same about Honda at one point too... |

I have to admit. I wish Hyundai would changed their badge logo. It's fugly. :tomato:

I tell people that Hyundai is the next big thing. They ain't small car company, they are a huge company that include Shipbuilding, Offshore & Engineering, Industrial Plant & Engineering, Engine & Machinery, Electro & Electric Systems, Construction Equipment, and Green Energy.
They are bigger than any of the German cars makers. And it won't be a shock that the German car makers will follow in their footsteps. |
Yup. People need to stop thinking about the Hyundai that created the Excel in the 1980s. Although it's the same company, it's NOT the same company (if that makes sense)
|
I'm not close minded. I just don't find their cars very appealing and there are other better cars out there.
|
Lol, they have some of the nicest styling out there these days, with more offerings and equal or better performance than Acura. But you're right, there's nothing appealing about them

In fairness, at this point in its life, Acura was a success.
A success in terms of a true luxury auto brand - NO. |

I'm not sold on this. I saw a 1G Equus today and I still really like the design of that car for what it's trying to be.
I'd be perfectly happy with that body style with better interior materials. |

I'm Not racist!!!!! like I said, Acura isnt doing much better. and with the poaching of Audi designers, I think Hyundai has done a whole hell of a lot better designing than Honda or Acura you are closed minded. |
For the price, you're getting a heck of a car with most any Hyundai/Kia. I'd drive a Genesis branded car, I'd drive a Hyundai too. Kia makes nice cars, but I couldn't drive one, simply because of their name. They need to change the name or create a sub brand like Hyundai did..."Kia" just sounds cheap to me in its very nature. I just couldn't say the words "I drive a Kia" haha. Nothing against them otherwise though.
I hope they keep the R-spec badge going. |
