WOW, they did a complete 180 on this car. The design is fantastic. I'd buy this over an Impala, Avalon, or Azera anyday. If cars like this don't contribute to Ford's salvation, nothing will.

That was uncalled for...
I think the front, side profile and interior are spot on. The back end I'm not sure about judging from the pictures. I'll have to see the car in person to make a final judgement, but I think it looks pretty damn good...

Taurus anyone?
350 hp AWD, and loads of features. While not Acura quality at least the exterior isn't as offensive as our RL beak

Not to rain on your parade....
"Under the hood is Ford's standard 3.5-liter V-6 which produces 263 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque, though an optional EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 will come later and is rumored to produce around 350 horsepower"

Now... will it be available in stick? That would be awesome.... 6-speed manual, with a twin(?) turbo V6 and AWD.

I'm disappointed. The initial spy pics were so promising. I only like the front. That rear is huge, and too squarish to match with the rest of the design, which is curvy.
I don't even like the interior. It's an improvement, but it's not enough.

My 1987 Ford Taurus LX was the one of the most unreliable cars I have ever owned-purchased new when I was 17.
Fast foward to 2005 when I picked up a new Ford Fusion which turned out to eclipse the Taurus as the most unreliable car I have ever owned , and I have owned well over 40 cars.
See fordfusionsucks.com
Ford can come out with a car that levitates, has a real operational Hal 2000, Swedish massager built in, 200mpg, and made from kryptonite. As long as it has that FORD badge on it I will just laugh and shake my head.
The only good thing about my Fusion breaking down so often was the fact that I drove so many different cars during this time. Unfortunately many of them were Fords and equally junk with all of them having problems even though a few were practically new.
Twice a fool already, thanks to Ford I will never buy another.
When I see them on the road these days, I just remind myself that I was once there and am a better educated person for it.

Whoa, who did you piss off that at 17 you had to drive a Taurus?

Oh gawd, not a Beretta

Ford has confirmed that a twin-turbo, direct-injected EcoBoost 3.5L V6 is on its way, but hasn't specified availability yet. That engine will produce big V8 power, somewhere in the range of 350 horsepower, and is expected to return decent fuel economy for a full-size car.

^ Yeah, Ford's quality these days rivals Toyota's, and the Taurus on the street right now is a good car; just boring as hell. This car takes care of all design concerns, IMO.

Not bad....a great improvement.
It's no Buick by any means...but then again different classes of cars.
Good work Ford.
Now bring us over the Mondeo!

The new Taurus seems like a nice step forward for Ford...if the quality can remain high, it'll hopefully be a success for the home team.

Wow! What an improvement! That ford five hundred...Taurus...Mercury...Taurus x...Sable or whatever the F**K you want to call it, is pretty hideous. Good Job, Ford.

One thing that worries me in looking at the rear is the possibility of dealers adding "rear wings" to the trunklid.
The rear has a unique rear drop-off crease on the trunk and I can just see certain Ford dealers, still stuck in the 90s and thinking rear elevated spoilers are stylish, adding tacky rear wings to make them "sporty"...with that drop-off crease, such an add-on would look horrid...
Memo to Ford dealer: NO REAR WINGS.

If you think of Ford's cars they'll have a pretty excellent line up in 2-3 years. this Taurus, the redesigned Mustang, the new Fusion, the Fiesta, and the redesigned Focus in 2012... Should be good stuff coming out of Detroit

But will people actually start buying Fords over Hondas and Toyotas? There is the long standing reputation of unreliable cars that Ford, GM, and Chryslers need to deal with. I'm not here to argue which cars are more reliable. I'm just pointing out the bad rep that the big 3 gets, which may or may not be just. Although the quality may meet or even surpass the foreign makers, it may take many many years for folks to regain the trust of the big three. But hey it needs to start somewhere right?

^ Good points...
It will take some time for the general public to come around. It will take some good marketing on Ford's part to get people into the showrooms to test out the vehicles.
I'd expect more invitational "Come out and drive our cars" events in the next few years from the big 3.

Best looking Taurus to date!! However, the only domestic vehicle my wife would ever want to see in our garage is Cadillac.

Ford is making improvement. Wonder if they'll move a profit on their passenger cars. When Ford brings in their design team from Europe, they do have some hope. It'll be interesting to see that Ford cars are more edgy and performance oriented than Toyota cars.
