I wonder if it was a type when the above writes that the car will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in March 25. Maybe it meant the NY Auto Show?

Dude, I already have split and merged your post to the Shelby Mustang Cobra thread. The SVT Cobra and the Shelby Cobra are not the same car. Here is the thread for the Shelby Cobra:

Note to all:

This is not the Mustang SVT Cobra car. They are two different cars with two different threads.

So it looks like that above the GT Mustang, we will see an SVT car with 450-465 HP (this is a loose rumor really right now but it will happen, we just dont know the final specs) and a Shelby Cobra with 550HP possibly (the engine from the Ford GT).

I'm very curious to see how much the Shelby Mustang Cobra is gonna cost, hopefully it'll be a bargain for the amount of power you get.

2006 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Compact Coupe/Hatchback

What Edmunds.com Says:The 2006 SVT Cobra should satisfy even the most extreme performance enthusiasts

What We Know:Ford will be adding the next-generation SVT Cobra to its lineup in 2006 on a limited production basis. The company plans on pulling out all the stops in constructing this Mustang-based monster, with numerous performance enhancements. The engine, which will be augmented by a supercharger, should produce just over 400-horsepower while yielding almost 430-lbs.-ft. of torque. Transmission is manual, of course. The suspension and brakes are said to improve upon the '03 Cobra, and the vehicle will be further tweaked with 18-inch chrome wheels.

You haven't seen what a modified Terminator Cobra can do. A year and half ago X2C Motorsports ran an 8.9s @ 154MPH in the 1/4 mile in an '03 Cobra with a T88 turbo and without n2o, oh yea and this was done on stock internals.

Think the mustang would just stop selling if ford turned it into some modern looking car. Its in the same league as saying a 911 looks like an old ass car and porsche should just change it.

perhaps you're right on your first point, and that is fine. those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.

in regards to the 911, no. if Porsche brought the 60's or 70's bodystyles back and created the current model 911 from those - then, what you said would be applicable and accurate. the current 911 is very much so its own animal.

How about a Twin turbo 05 GT? The kit should be out in a few months. Honestly, if you want to make big power, you need cubic inches.

Your argument is that the mustang looks like an old car because it shares cues with a 60's whatever mustang, that has nothing to do with when ford introduced the new model or how long they've been using those cues on cars. So as far as a 2005 car looking fairly close to a 60/70's generation of that same vehicle, the 911 fits as perfectly as the mustang.

I like it! I'll take 465 stock horses for $35-40k anyday of the week! Just the fact that Ford is willing to make a heavy-duty automatic for that car is just absolutely exciting, I might have to look into this in '07.

The new Mustang IMO is one of the better looking cars on the road, but I am a little partial. The Supra looks real dated, the TL is a good looking car but it's not sporty looking.

Hmmn... Let's see which wins stock for stock.. An IS300 or a Mustang COBRA... Let's see a COBRA modified using the same $$ as the Turbo IS300.. Guess which will win again?

I even doubt the Turbo IS300 will beat a stock 06 COBRA anyway if it uses the rumored de-tuned GT engine.

I disagree. The Mustang is a great looking car. There are nice looking cars from every company, regardless if they are Domestic, Asian, or European.

And what will happen if we turboed the Z06

For raw HP, dont even try... Nothing beats this country. Nothing even comes close. Two words. Top Fuel. And that's been happening for a million years now when Europe had Beetles moving people with 1.1 liter 25HP engines.

Dont even bother with high 8s. Like I said, anyone form another country who thinks they are smart with raw power since forever, provide them with a link to drag racing. What 8s and what 9s?

And the Supra and TL Jap-Rice-mobiles (so to speak) will never look like a Retro 2005 Mutang. So what's the beef sir?

They both have their merits. ANyone trying to bring down any school of thought is not a true car enthusiast. They are fanatics.

Here's a link to the X2C Cobra, unfortunately they took down the ¼ mile time slip pics.

Here's magazine article in PDF about it: http://www.x2cmotorsports.com/press/...50magazine.pdf
