I'm really thinking that a mustang might be in my future... I only have 35K miles on the CLS, so I'll have a couple of years before I get rid of it, but it's going to be interesting to see what happens to the coupe market in the next few years... Will a coupe from another manufacture be able to outsell the 2005 Mustang ?? (I doubt it)...
Ha! Mine is a 2001 (bought in June of 2000) and it has 38K miles

I don't know... The return of the Camaro done PROPERLY could give Mustang a run for it's money. Oh, that's a pipedream, though.

Oh and werd to MRSP

Ya, my friend bought one for that reason too. But it's the biggest POS I can describe. He is already trading it in for something else.

Maybe his GTO was a lemon, but from what I keep reading and what he tells me these problems are common.

paint problems (peeling)
dash shorted out
other misc electrical problems
alignment problems

Extreme Ford Mustang FR500C to Hit Market in August
Source: Edmunds.com

DEARBORN, Mich. — In a move designed to appeal to racing enthusiasts, Ford told Inside Line it plans to sell 25 Mustang FR500Cs designed exclusively for track use through its fordracingparts.com Web site.

The car, inspired by a 2002 Ford racing concept shown at SEMA, costs $125,000.

The white FR500C Mustangs will be assembled by Toronto-based Multimatic Motorsports, which is running one of five FR500Cs on the Grand Am Cup road-racing circuit. The special Mustangs have won four out of six Grand Am races this season, according to Ford Special Vehicle Team spokesman Alan Hall.

The FR500C — which is not street-legal — is powered by a 5.0-liter "Cammer R50" V8 engine that generates 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The engine features the same cylinder heads found in the $140,000 Ford GT supercar.

"With the new Mustang, Ford Racing saw the opportunity to create a ready-to-race car," Hall said. "It was inspired by a 2002 SEMA concept called the FR500C based on the last-generation Mustang. They took the Mustang to the extreme with that one. A lot of the Mustang book editors said it was the best Mustang they had ever driven — what the ideal Mustang would be."

Hall added, "I would not say all 25 are spoken for, but there is strong interest."

What this means to you: All you have to add is the racing stripes and the sponsor stickers.

Just want to add that this car is likely the one (similar) that's been bullying M3s and Porsches around racetracks lately...

I love this car, but wish they not include those stripes or make it optional.

I don't see the huge accomplishment unless the cobra starts running close to the same as a vette in all categories of performance. The current cobra was already showing that Ford could really start pushing the limits of power with a blower, this is just a natural progression imo.

Think when Ford gets back on their feet, that they should seperate the Cobra(next gen) from the mustang line and make it a vette equal. Think a ford cobra would not only be a sweet name that is recognized by consumers but would also allow the company to use a higher performance/lighter weight chasis.

I just can't get excited over what they are doing now when they are no longer the only ones doing 30k performance, in this case high 30k performance- sti, evo, cobra, gto, etc- all range in speed and handling abilities.

That sounds like an awesome idea. Make it a little more expensive, but offer closer to vette handling performance and lotsa power. Kinda what dodge does with the SRT-4, they modded ot to hell and dont call it a neon.

NHTSA Investigating

Mustang in NHTSA Investigation - - Source: The Car Connection

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is studying whether the Ford Mustang has a design flaw in its accelerator pedal and interior trim. The 2003-04 model-year Mustang and Mustang Convertible models could have a problem that results in carpeting interfering with the action of the accelerator pedal. Some seven consumers have complained to the safety agency, the Associated Press reports, and the NHTSA is looking into the design of about 20,000 Mustangs from those years. If the agency determines the design is a safety flaw, the Mustang could be recalled for repairs.

The new Mustang V6 is actually decently quick. Much faster than the old V6 Stangs. Ive driven in one recently and it's not bad.

No doubt. A V6 stang with the manual will give an auto CL TYpe S a good run. The CLS will have trouble getting a good lead. It will but it wont be easy.

Well, I've seen far too many people acting like their 'Stang is THE SHIT with the V6, when in reality it's not. But I gave them a good pwning.

Isn't the Stang V6 only rated at 200hp? Are you sure that this pony would give the auto CLS Type S a run for the money???

It has a 4.0L V6 with 210hp & 240tq

It has been clocked in the mid 6's 0-60 in most of the car mags.

Personally, I'd never consider the V6 if I ever got the Mustang, but it's no slouch any more.

The new V6 has a really flat powerband. I have seen a few at the track running mid to upper 14's. Not bad.

It's got 210HP but it weighs 3300 pounds. I dont know about mid 6s and mid 14s (I doubt these are consistent numbers) but 7.0 flat for the 60 can be done all day long at any temp.

If it does mid 14s consistently, I was wrong, because the auto CLS will lose to it.

Remember this 4.0 is a truck engine. An engine designed for SUV applications from Ford, that is. So the 210 HP comes at only 5300 rpm and it's certainly flat. And as any SUV engine, it's designed for (horse)power at low rpm. 240 pounds of torque as someone else said, at 3500 rpm. I am guessing it makes a lot of that right off idle. So that helps the Stang to hook hard off the line, due to its RWD feature.

Fancy Fords: Shelby GT500 convertible out of the corral - - Source: Autoweek

Here’s the next pony in the Ford Mustang corral, the 2007 Shelby GT500 convertible, which arrives next summer alongside its stablemate, the GT500 coupe. Set for a Detroit auto show premiere in January, the drop-top GT500 gets the same hardware as the coupe: a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing upward of 450 hp, making it the most powerful factory-built Mustang convertible ever. Ford says the convertible weighs in at only 150 pounds more than the coupe, and features a cloth top (vs. the vinyl top on the standard GT convertible).

Wow, if that's the finalized Cobra. No thanks!!!! The car doesn't distiguish itself enough form the regular GT and look at that wheel gap. I'll just supercharge my GT and it will be cheaper and faster.

For a kid that grew up sweeping floors in Bud Moore's shop in trade for learning how to build engines and drove a 6-71 blown '68 Mustang in high school, that makes me (almost) wanna give up my Euro trash habit...

A pulley, exhaust bypass and drag slicks would make that thing a strip terror. I can smell the VHT burning right now...

old GT500 wasn't all that "flashey" either. In fact it was small changes, air ducts, spoliers, wheels, engine and some stripes/decals.

And the "elanor" you have seen in recent movies like gone in 60 seconds (the remake) is NOT the gt500 as it was in stock form. It's a totally modified GT500.

The original movie "gone in 60 seconds" uses a real GT500 ( movie was made back in the 70's)

This is a NON-modified GT500 (a GT500 in stock form)

here's a regular 1967 mustang to compare..

Buying a GT500 is not buying the HP, it's a collectors car. And HUGE for any Carol Shelby fans. Leather wrapped dash, different seats, engine teaks... limited edition.

... dunno man... looks 100% to be what it should be... seems you have some super high expectations... Maybe if you knew the history of the GT500? ... you'd see the new GT500 is right on course to what it should be.

Looks fantasic to me, and with around 500HP, a few mods it'll easily be a reliable 700+

Umm urr wrong, not even close, it was a yellow and black '73 Mach 1, the only other Mustangs in the original were a 69 Boss 302 and a first gen red coupe.

I have an 05 GT and know the history of Shelby Mustangs. I have been around Mustangs most of my life. The 60's Shelby's distinguished themselves from everyday 289s and 351 Fastbacks. The concept 07 GT500 Shelby was perfect. Ford messed around with the design and this one isn't agressive enough. Also, this GT500 probably won't be a collectors car. Ford stated they are going to produce quite a bit of the 07 GT500's.

2007 Ford Shelby GT500

The latest from Ford and Carroll Shelby promises 475 horses and an equally impressive amount of torque from a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8. The GT500 will be available as both a coupe and a convertible when it hits dealerships this summer.

Please keep in mind that the person that created this post, recently (Jan. 8th) had dinner with Carroll Shelby and Hau Thai-Tang and all of the other Ford big wigs. His word is the bible when it comes to Mustangs. If this is indeed true, this car will be a beast!
