I'm sure it will cost too much in the end. It'd be awesome if they did that for like $20k to compete with the SRT-4. =p

No more Ford Focus RS in Europe

Autoexpress reports:

Hot Focus Set To RSt In Peace

The Ford Focus RS is dead - two months earlier than expected. As the last model, carrying the number 4,501, rolled out of a German factory last week, it closed the book on the firm's most successful hot model ever - only 394 days after production began. Nearly half the cars made - 2,147 - were sold to UK buyers.

From www.in.gr/auto I read:

- To make an RS it took 10 hours of work
- The max number of RS car that could be manufactured is 30
- 521 was the number of unique parts to the RS as compared to the base Focus
- 48% of the RS cars were sold to the UK
- There was 1 RS sold to Turkey
- 100mph to 0 takes 4.1 seconds
- During the above the driver feels 1g of negative gravitational forces
- 60 was the unique number of engineers working on the RS
- 1969 was the first year the RS denotation was used
- 20 is the number of Ford cars that got the RS denotation

Since you brought it up though, the RS does the 0-60 in the mid 6s area.

Umm, that car looks exactly like the predecessor. It looks like it might be longer but other than that no inspiration.

What a disappointment. Mazda and Volvo really stepped up with their models and Ford produces this ... That dashboard reminds me of the Ryder truck I rented two weeks ago. What a shame.

they need to really take some styling cues from the european focus and Mondeo. But i heard ford is going to call it quits on the svt focus for a year while svt works on a turbo focus to battel dodge's SRT-4.

The new generation Focus will give a virulent answer to the attack from the Japanese carmakers, represented by the Subaru Impreza WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII. Ford will have again after a few years of absence, a Cosworth model. For now, the testing is done under the cover of a Focus RS body, which suffered modifications at the front bumper and a large air intake. Ford Focus Cosworth will have an engine with 4 cylinders with 300 hp. The car runs on AWD, and the manual gearbox has 6 speeds. The maximum speed is estimated around 250 km/h. The launch is programmed for 2005. Ford hopes to revive the success of the Escort Cosworth, which was produced between 1992 and 1996 and more than 7000 cars were sold.

I heard on Motorweek (the episode with the Mazda 3 review) that the next Ford Focus will only share a platform with the 3 and S40 in Europe. Apparently the North American Focus is a different kettle of fish. FWIW

I am not sure if you mean that though there are no major differences between the NA Focus and the European Focus. They are basically the same car.

Ok. Motorweek said that the NA Focus would not be the same platform as the Euro Focus/S40/Mazda 3.

Jesus. They took the one thing the focus had going for it away. At least it used to look agressive with the huge headlights. Now we have a new 2005 escort coming out. Ford is :ghey:
