Man I hate to admit, but it doesn't look as bad in person. And i don't know if you guys have been paying attention, the Focus is selling pretty well, it's 3rd behind Corolla and Civic sales now.

It doesn't look that bad in person, but it still doesn't look good. The Euro-market Focus is still way better looking.

i agree that it doesn't look as bad in person. (seems to be the case with a lot of cars these days)

but it's just that the euro focus is SO much better looking.

Saw a couple on the road driving to Maryland, so ugly! The tailights are too small and emblem letters are too bunched together.

What the hell is wrong with Ford design department? This new NA Focus wouldn't even compete with new Civic. Civic looks like its 100 years ahead in all aspects. You wonder why you hardly see any Focus' on the road, all they buyers went and got a Civic.

Would Ford save money by bringing some of these Euro only beauties to the U.S.?

What is the big road block for this? Crash standards?

I've got a feeling the Ford could recoup any losses in "re-engineering" by actually selling cars.

One reason is they would cost quite a bit more than you are used to paying for a Ford car.

Quality of Euro Ford combined with high Euro value versus weak US Dollar.

Motorauthority says they're coming state-side...so does Mulally...FINALLY!

Ford to retool U.S. truck plants to build Euro models
<!-- title -->Posted on Wednesday 11 June 2008

Last month we reported that Ford would bring its European Kuga crossover and C-Max MPV to North America after the launch of the new Fiesta and next-generation Focus, and now latest reports claim Ford is set to retool its U.S. truck plans to build smaller passenger vehicles, including several European models. Ford is yet to confirm the details but said plant managers and local union leaders from across the U.S. will meet in Detroit this week and are expected to make an announcement next month.

The information was revealed by an inside source, who told The Detroit News that Ford was planning to revamp some of its truck plants to produce vehicles currently built in Europe.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally has also hinted at the possibility, telling reporters earlier that Europe is the best place to look as Ford’s U.S. division restructures its portfolio and operations. He also acknowledged that it would be too costly to import cars from across the Atlantic because of unfavorable exchange rates. “We can tailor the production to where we sell them,” he told reporters.

Mulally also confirmed that the Fusion sedan and European Mondeo would be replaced by a single model for the next-generation, while other sources have revealed that the next Focus, due in 2010/11, could arrive in the U.S. in several variations including hatchback, sedan and cabrio models.

There’s another key reason to bring Ford’s Euro models to North America than just satisfying demand. A more fuel-efficient lineup will also help the carmaker meet tough new CAFE regulations rolling in over the next decade.

^^ Building them in NA solves part of the weak dollar problem.

Start now Ford.....maybe you will still be around in a few years when these cars hit the streets.

Car looks too busy and I don't know crap about the Euro Focus but if it has turbo, AWD and I could get it in another color...... a weak yes. Its too cluttered looking and over the top.... its what they'd call "boy racer-ish"

Lime green doesn't belong inside any car thx

^ YIWHI... all day long

Euro/Aussie Ford Design team has long been way ahead of the US Division. It's about time that Mullaly brought that crap here.

It's no more or less offensive than an Evo or a STi.

I agree about the color but I think you're being unreasonable about the design

You have a point... though I think the new STi looks not-so-good but the Evo has happened to grow on me. But Evos and STis don't come in neon green with matching seats

I think anything beyond a subtle lip or small spoiler is a bit much on a hatch, especially one with this much rake. But this one has a subtle lip spoiler AND another spoiler on top of that. Plus the blue stitching to constrast neon green, hood slats, an abundance of mesh, which I like, but they even have mesh inlets under the headlights.... maybe if they were integrated into the fogs like the Evo X?

I like it, its just that it looks like they got too excited with the "Need for Speed Carbon" lever. Still a vast improvement, I could care less for the new USDM Focus but this I do like for the most part... plus its LHD! What else is Ford waiting for? Another Kerkorian deposit?

European Ford's are all hot as hell. Just don't know why the North American Ford's are so behind.

Speaking of Focus...I've been in one all week. It's fully loaded (with leather!) and it's not a bad ride...Too bad it doesn't look as nice as it's European sister.

Ford Focus RS

following the car’s first public appearance at the 2008 british motor show, more official images of the ford focus rs have surfaced online. Until now, the focus rs has only been seen in a neon lime green, but the latest shots show the rs in a much more subdued blue.

Although the car shown at the british motor show was billed as a concept, the car has moved to a production version of the second-generation focus rs for 2009. “the time is right for ford to deliver a new high performance model for the legions of loyal ford rs customers around europe,” said jost capito, head of team rs, which sadly sounds like there are no current plans to bring the hot hatch stateside anytime soon. The euro-based focus will be sold in the u.s. Early next decade.

It’s not clear why ford won’t offer the model in america. It would certainly make a good rival to the mazdaspeed 3, dodge caliber srt4, chevy cobalt ss, and others.

The car will have enough juice to run with the cars mentioned above — rated at 295 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, it trumps them all. The engine responsible for these numbers is the duratec turbocharged 2.5-liter inline five cylinder borrowed from volvo’s parts bin. No official numbers have been release, but imotormag.com specualtes the rs will make the sprint from 0-62 in 5.9 seconds. The first-generation rs, launched in 2002 in europe, used a 2.0-liter inline four with 212hp and about 230lb-ft of torque, which many thought was the limit of a front wheel drive platform back then.

Ford of europe already offers a focus st, which uses the same 2.5l engine to generate 225 hp.
