Isn't copying Tesla great?
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is getting more expensive, again. Ford’s electric truck has already been subject to several huge price increases this year, and today’s price revelations are more of the same.

According to the truck’s online configurator, the base Lightning Pro now starts at $57,869, an increase of $4,100. If you recall all the headlines and great press from the Lightning’s initial launch, the big news then was that the base Pro would start at about $40,000. Ford may have launched with this impressive price, but in the span of a few months, the price has gone up by over $16,000.

Ford blamed the most recent increase in price from October on global supply chain issues, rising material costs and more. We asked Ford for comment on this month’s increase, too, and received a similar statement from a company spokesperson in response.

"We adjust pricing as a normal course of business due to rising material costs, market factors, and ongoing supply chain constraints."

Unfortunately, it’s not just the Pro that’s going up in price. The XLT trim is subject to the same $4,100 increase, making that truck’s new starting price $65,369.

On the bright side, both the Lariat and Platinum models aren’t seeing big price bumps. The Lariat goes up $100 to $76,369, and the Platinum is weirdly $350 cheaper now at $98,319.

The good news for anybody with a previous order is that Ford will honor the price at which they placed their order at. New orders for 2023 model year Lightnings will be subject to the price increases detailed in this story. You can check out the more expensive lineup and price a truck out with the new prices over at Ford’s configurator now.

Local dealer, where we bought our Expedition, has one on their used car lot, an XLT I think, for $97k

Edit: It's a Lariat, with just a stock photo

The automotive industry has been undergoing major changes in the last several years but America’s favorite vehicle has remained unchanged. For the 41st consecutive year, the Ford F-Series was the best-selling new vehicle in the United States in 2022 with a total of more than 640,000 units delivered to customers last year.

The F-Series lineup currently includes a large number of different powertrains, cabin configurations, and trim levels. From the very base F-150 XL to the F-150 Limited and the all-electric F-150 Lightning, the automaker has something for everyone’s needs. The larger F-Series models are also sold in various configurations and Ford says that if you lined up all of the trucks the automaker sold last year, it would stretch approximately 2,400 miles (3,862 kilometers), or further than the driving distance from Los Angeles to Detroit.

While the F-Series retained its crown for the best-selling new vehicle in the United States in 2022 (and America’s best-selling truck for the 46th year in a row), the model saw a decrease in deliveries compared to 2021. The dry numbers show 640,000 sales in 2022 versus 726,000 the prior year and 787,400 in 2020. Still, Ford says it sold an average of at least one F-Series truck every 49 seconds last year.

One of the best kept performance secrets on the market is a regular cab pickup with a big V8. Not everyone makes a regular cab pickup anymore, especially one you can pair with a V8. Ford is one of the last automakers to let you do so. You can equip a regular cab, short bed F-150 with the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and have a good amount of fun for a fairly decent price. If you happen to have $12,000 sitting around, Ford will sell you a performance pack for that truck that’ll get you 700 horsepower covered by a warranty.

The package, available through Ford Performance, is available in two editions: FP700 Black Edition and FP700 Bronze Edition. For $12,350 that gets you exterior details like bed striping and wheels in black or bronze paint, a black painted grille, “FP700'’ interior badges and a lowering kit. While that’s all cool and sure to make you look the part, the real gem of the kit is the supercharger.

The bulk of the price of the package iIf you don’t want all the visual stuff you can buy the supercharger alone for $9,500) is a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. Bolting it the 5.0 liter V8, which already makes 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, ups output to a wild 700 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. That power gets covered by a three year/36,000 mile warranty so you can do burnouts to your heart’s content.

If the regular doesn’t work for you, don’t worry, as the package is available for XL, XLT, Lariat and Platinum trims of ‘21-’23 F-150s in every cab and bed configuration. But you don’t want that. As Motor Trend pointed out, the best bang for your buck would come from a no optioned, steel wheeled regular cab F-150 XL with the 5.0 for $37,925. Add in the FP700 Package, and you’ve got a 700 hp sleeper for just over $50,000.

The wheels & grille don't look bad, could do without the stripes.

I'd just get the base truck, none of that BS, and slap on the supercharger lol. Would make for a real good time!

Ford announced today a major price reduction of its all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup in the United States. The price drop is as high as nearly $10,000 or 16.6 percent.

The company said that it is taking advantage of increased plant capacity (higher production scale allows for reducing costs per unit) combined with improving battery raw material costs.

Thanks to the recent price reductions, the MSRP is now closer to the initial level when the model was first announced.
Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan is currently "temporarily closed to complete final plant upgrades," but once it returns online (soon, as we understand), it's expected to have a tripled annual production run rate (a target of 150,000 Ford F-150 Lightning beginning this fall).

As early as in October, the availability of built-to-order trucks is expected to significantly improve as well:
"The upgrades at the plant, combined with improving battery raw material costs and continued work on scaling production and cost, help make it possible to lower pricing across the F-150 Lightning line. Customers will now have greater availability of their built-to-order truck as early as October at an MSRP closer to initial Lightning pricing."
It probably means that we will have to wait a few more months until the Ford F-150 Lightning sales volume will substantially increase.

Updated 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning prices (July 17, 2023):

The prices were lowered by $6,079-$9,979 (6.2-16.6 percent) depending on the trim level. That's a very interesting outcome, which partially explains the recent reports about discounts applied by many dealers.

The highest price reduction concerns the entry-level Pro version, which now starts at an MSRP of $49,995 (down $9,979 or 16.6% from $59,974).

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning MSRP price changes, compared to the previous reports (here and here):
  • Pro SR 18-inch: $49,995 (down $9,979 or 16.6% from $59,974)
  • XLT SR 18-inch (311A): $54,995 (down $9,479 or 14.7% from $64,474)
  • XLT SR 20-inch (312A): $59,995 (down $8,479 or %12.4 from $68,474)
  • XLT ER 20-inch (312A ER): $69,995 (down $8,879 or 11.3% from $78,874)
  • Lariat SR 20-inch: $69,995 (down $6,979 or 9.1% from $76,974)
  • Lariat ER 20-inch: $77,495 (down $8,479 or 9.9% from $85,974)
  • Platinum ER 22-inch: $91,995 (down $6,079 or 6.2% from $98,074)
It's worth noting that at the same time, the destination and delivery fee increased by $100, to $1,995.

A much more important thing is that the Lariat ER version qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit, as its MSRP is lower than the $80,000 price cap for the incentive. It seems also that most versions (all besides the Platinum) are eligible for the incentive right now.

I'm guessing a Rivian price cut is going to be inbound soon enough. $77500 for a Lariat ER is a great deal.

More realistic pricing IMO
IIRC, my 2016 XLT 2.7 2wd was just shy of $50k sticker.
$5-10k more for a better equipped EV [XLT SR] version doesn't sound bad, especially considering a comparable 2022/23 XLT is into the mid-50s
Having the EV truck priced in line [or within 10% or so] of the ICE model should make the jump easier for some buyers that are on the fence.

Even better when you consider the $7500 incentive too.

Ford introduced a new special edition vehicle - F-150® Lightning® Platinum Black - designed for customers who want a truck with distinctive looks, power and premium matte black features.

The Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum Black is a monochromatic electric truck, combining the tech and power capability of the high-end Platinum trim level wrapped in a unique matte black wrap - the company's first-ever matte-wrapped production truck.

Matte finishes are trending in homes, cosmetics and now vehicles, while black is always in style. This powerful blend of trendy and classic takes the Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum to the next level and makes the truck stand out next to conventional paint options.

Unique matte black and Agate Black gloss features include:
  • 22-inch matte black wheels and lug nuts
  • Black Ford Oval badging
  • Power-Deployable Running Boards with Agate Black gloss accent
  • Soft-shell black tonneau cover
  • A distinctive smoked signature light bar
  • Reflective black-on-black Lightning badge that appears to glow when lights flash over it at night
  • An Agate Black gloss roof that blends in with the glass to create a smooth surface, making the non-reflective matte black exterior stand out even more, and Agate Black door handles to help protect this high-touch area from smudging.
Additional touches include:
  • "Lightning" graphics on roof glass above passenger seating
  • Luxe black premium Nirvana leather seating surfaces
  • Aluminum plate in both frunk and in driver door jamb with limited edition numbering
The Platinum Black also features enhanced technology.
  • Available Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving - specifically version 1.2 - features Lane Change Assist, which allows the driver to change lanes hands-free by tapping the turn signal once the path is clear, and In-Lane Repositioning to help to keep the vehicle in its lane while subtly shifting position away from vehicles in adjacent lanes. Updated BlueCruise graphics in the digital cluster visually show the driver when an assisted hands-free lane change is occurring and when the vehicle is adjusting in-lane such as shifting away from large semi-trucks.
  • Also available is an optimized towing setup experience, in which the truck is smart enough to recognize a connected trailer and automatically switches to tow haul drive mode. Once the trailer is disconnected, the truck will revert to the previous drive mode.
  • Walk Away Locking allows the customer to lock the vehicle with a passive key or authorized phone via Phone As A Key.
Future capabilities can be unlocked through software updates to help enhance the ownership experience.

Pro Power Onboard now works while the truck is switched off; plus, it features an updated visual appearance so customers can better understand the truck's power levels.

The foundation for F-150 is a fully boxed high-strength steel frame with a high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body, allowing customers best-in-class available payload and max towing capability.

Since its introduction in 2021, the platform underpinning this truck has undergone more than 3.75 million customer equivalent miles of Built Ford Tough durability testing in labs, at proving grounds and in some of the harshest real-world conditions in North America. The truck is tested to the extremes - hot and cold, gravel, off-road and for long distances, at full payload and max towing.

But being tough isn't all about the physical characteristics. This truck is smart. It has offerings allowing it to export electric power to help keep job site tools running; aid both novice and veteran towers to line up and hitch their trailers; provide hands-free highway driving using Ford BlueCruise on end-of-day commutes after a long day of work; and provide a tailgate with optimized access.

Many of these productivity-boosting digital features are made possible because of a class-exclusive 5G LTE modem that enables faster mapping, Wi-Fi and Ford Power-Up software updates if a customer sets their automatic software updates setting to "ON." Customers can also use their SYNC 4 digital system to submit voice feedback on functionality or improvements for their F-150.

This improved connectivity enables a more seamless transfer of in-vehicle data to FordPass® and Ford Pro™ Telematics, a cloud-based platform that uses vehicle data to give fleet managers access to valuable insights to help accelerate productivity and fleet uptime.

"Built Ford Tough is more than a motto; it's our promise to always strive for more and never rest for F-150 owners. We see it as our duty to deliver what our customers want and need and what they never thought possible." - John Emmert, Ford truck general manager

Growing Hybrid Leadership

Ford truck leadership also includes hybrid trucks. Through the first half of 2023, Ford F-150® is the best-selling full-hybrid pickup truck. Ford hybrid truck sales are up 28.1 percent in the first half of 2023.

Right now, 10 percent of all F-150 trucks sold are hybrids. Ford plans to double the mix of hybrid trucks manufactured for the 2024 model year to give even more customers access to this advanced technology. By the end of 2024, Ford aims to make F-150 PowerBoost one of the top-selling hybrids in America.

And the initial starting MSRP on PowerBoost® Hybrid, available on XLT through Platinum Plus will now match the starting MSRP on the 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine.

Cost parity means customers will no longer need to grapple with paying a premium price just to have the benefits of a hybrid powertrain: a maximum available 430 horsepower and 570 lb.-ft. of torque - the most on any F-Series vehicle outside Raptor and Raptor R - and standard 2.4kW of Pro Power Onboard (with the option to upgrade to 7.2kW). All while getting the same Built Ford Tough durability, capability and reliability as other F-150 series vehicles.

"We're making hybrid more accessible to our customers, giving them the power of choice by offering it as the same price as the 3.5-liter EcoBoost. This is the latest example of Ford democratizing technology for all truck customers. We did it with EcoBoost engines and with high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy bodies for greater capability, and now we're doing it with PowerBoost Hybrid." - Andrew Frick, vice president, Sales and Trucks, Ford Blue

Pro Power Onboard

The industry-first and class-exclusive Pro Power Onboard feature is regularly cited by Ford customers as one of the most desired.

Used in past Texas winter storms by dealers and customers, Pro Power Onboard charged personal devices through the many available plugs in both the bed and cabin and allowed owners to run extension cords to critical household appliances such as refrigerators, Wi-Fi connections, or space heaters.

One Ford employee even used it to save a friend's wedding by powering the band's speakers during the reception, and a customer who worked backstage for a band used Pro Power Onboard to save a concert by powering speakers during a power outage.

More regularly, the feature helps to keep tools charged and ready at construction sites and power tailgates at sporting events.

An updated digital interface will help customers keep track of available power better, either through the SYNC® 4 screen or the FordPass® app.

Pro Power Onboard Power Levels:
  • 2.0kW - Available on gas trucks, 2.0kW can comfortably power a football tailgate complete with a television, speaker, blender, mini fridge, and electric heater
  • 2.4kW - Standard for all PowerBoost® hybrid equipped trucks, this inverter works to give equipped vehicles a maximum of 85 hours of runtime with a full tank of gasoline - plenty of time for carpentry, masonry, or even hosting a drive-in movie theater
  • 7.2kW - Top power option on PowerBoost hybrid equipped trucks - chosen by nearly 3 in 4 PowerBoost customers - can comfortably supply power to a framing crew, mobile metal/welding shop, or dirt-bike mobile shop for 32 hours straight
Purposeful Tech

The Ford F-150® pickup has always been about getting the job done in the smartest way possible. The new model is the most connected and the smartest F-150 engineered to date. It starts with 10 standard driver-assist features, including the latest versions of Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping System and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert.

Customers have access to more available driver assist technology across all F-150 models and trim levels, including in-demand features like Ford BlueCruise and a 360-degree camera.

Available Exit Warning is designed to help alert occupants exiting the vehicle to approaching detected traffic from behind, including vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The 2024 model will help customers enhance their productivity in a variety of ways with advanced driver-assist features like Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™.

Pro Trailer Hitch Assist

To improve productivity, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist takes the frustration out of hitching a trailer by using the rear camera and corner radars to align the hitch with the trailer coupler while simultaneously controlling the truck's speed, steering, and braking to stop at just the right place all at the touch of a button.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist

After a short set-up, Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature allows the camera to track the trailer position while the driver backs up and guides the trailer, rotating the knob left or right in the direction the trailer needs to go, and the system controls the steering wheel.

Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch

Class-exclusive available Smart Hitch measures tongue weight to help customers properly hitch up and help reduce the possibility of trailer sway when towing. When combined with Onboard Scales, it helps estimate approximate payload weight in real-time. Weight can be viewed through the Ford SYNC® 4 touchscreen or LED visual display in the taillamps.

Ford BlueCruise

Ford is changing the way we offer Ford BlueCruise to F-150 customers. Now, F-150 customers can access hands-free highway driving at any point during the ownership journey - at vehicle purchase or after experiencing it during a 90-day complimentary trial, and then choosing to activate it either on an annual or monthly basis to fit their needs.

Customers of the 2024 F-150 will experience Ford BlueCruise 1.2, which allows for new capabilities like Lane Change Assist - which can perform a hands-free lane change at the tap of the turn signal - and In-Lane Repositioning to help adjust the vehicle's position by subtly shifting away from vehicles in adjacent lanes, such as large semi-trucks, for instance.

F-150 Tremor

The Ford F-150® Tremor™ is designed and engineered for customers seeking a purpose-built off-roading vehicle that maintains all the truck functionality of F-150. This vehicle is the result of watching how customers use their trucks for life in the cornfields, on dusty two-tracks, in muddy bogs and on rock-strewn trails.

New for 2024 is an optional modular front bumper finished in a combination of Tarnished Dark Anodized and Carbon Black colors for aggressive front-end styling.

Paired with the Tremor-unique coast-to-coast grille, this new optional bumper increases off-road styling. It also facilitates installation of accessories for even more customization options and capability.

A light bar designed for increased visibility area is available to order, and a dealer-installed Ford Performance Winch Kit, with a WARN 12,000-pound winch, developed by Ford engineering, along with a brush guard is also available.

The Vehicle Personalization team is working to offer more accessories in the near future.

The front clip, which includes all body panels from the side mirrors forward, has been given a unique Tremor treatment, specifically designed for the vehicle, to add distinctive style. You'll find specially designed Tremor design elements like:
  • Tremor Box Side Decal
  • Coast-to-coast grille with Tremor Active Orange Accents
  • Unique Tremor Style Running Boards
  • Details such as accent stitching, decorative finishes, and floor mats embody the essence of the exterior design.
By listening to customers, Ford off-roading veterans created a truck that would handle their demanding lifestyle and deliver increased traditional off-roading capability compared to other F-150 models - but not quite a desert racer like Raptor.

F-150 Raptor

The 2024 F-150 Raptor boasts new FOX Dual Live Valve shocks to provide a more confident, controlled riding experience. Now, with position-sensitive compression control standard, new continuously variable rebound controls work to further enhance both off-road and on-road driving thanks to Dual Live Valve technology. With the success of FOX Live Valve shock technology launched on F-150 Raptor in the 2019 model year, this is the natural evolution of the technology to add even more capability to Raptor's already impressive suspension system.

This new rebound control functionality allows greater possibilities to adapt damping to match body control to the off-road environment via Ford Performance-developed off-road algorithms.

Like the Live Valve shocks, still available on some F-150 Raptor configurations, these Dual Live Valve shocks feature high-tech Ford Performance-designed off-road algorithms owned and used exclusively by Ford. Electronic suspension controls and Ford algorithms adjust hundreds of times a second, adapting response to the ever-changing terrain.

The Dual Live Valve shocks perfectly complement the five-link rear suspension system launched on Raptor in 2021, representing truly superb off-road capability and delivering excellent lateral stability and traction. The five-link rear suspension features extra-long trailing arms to better maintain axle position on rough terrain, a Panhard rod and 24-inch coil springs - all optimized for outstanding stability while aggressively traversing desert terrain.

Looking at the outside of the vehicle, Ford Performance engineers designed the new modular front bumper to be an accessory-capable solution. For this addition, available on Raptor series vehicles with 37-inch tires, Ford engineers have modified the bumper end caps to expose more front tire compared to the traditional bumper offering - adding to the aggressive styling of Raptor and allowing for more capability in rough terrain compared to the non-modular Raptor bumper. A light bar attachment is available for Raptor vehicles equipped with the modular front bumper to illuminate terrain in dark conditions.

Standard forged tow hooks at the front, much wider than the non-modular bumper offering, offer strong attachment points if drivers need to rescue non-Raptor vehicles while off-roading. A wide blackout grille treatment with new headlamps adds even more aggressive styling to Raptor.

Off-road technologies that enable Raptor to conquer difficult terrain include:
  • Terrain Management System with seven selectable drive modes
  • Standard Trail Control acts like cruise control for low-speed driving
  • Available One-Pedal Drive
Raptor R also features a unique Power Dome on the hood to add aggressive styling to the vehicle, giving the truck an unmistakable appearance to match its incredible off-road performance.

Raptor comes with new colors and materials to add a rugged look and style to the vehicle. Shelter Green, a new exterior color for 2024 and unique to Raptor, blends perfectly into forested backgrounds while standing out in desert environments for a vehicle whose looks match its performance.

New symmetrical hood graphics are available, with one new graphic available for both V6 and V8 models, along with "Raptor" graphics above wheel lip molding with a body side graphic below each. A blackout tape micro-texture paired with Code Orange coloring creates an unforgettable paint scheme.

For Raptor R, "Raptor" graphics above the wheel lip molding are featured, along with a box side graphic on each side of the vehicle. Raptor R also features a specially designed hood graphic with two front fender emblems. The blackout tape micro-texture paired with Code Orange coloring and Carbonized Gray for Raptor R works to create a vivid, bright color scheme that's unmistakably Raptor.

New Built Ford Tough Design

The classic grille and front-end design featured in premium Ford F-150® models such as Lariat® and Platinum have been specially re-designed for a sophisticated, modern appearance while still being instantly recognizable as a Ford F-Series® truck.

The front clip features standard LED lighting that gives the vehicle a refined yet muscular look and improves visibility and driving experience while lowering maintenance costs. F-150 series vehicles from Lariat to Platinum feature C-Clamp DRL signature lighting. On lower series vehicles, you'll find an amber horizontal turn indicator and signature lighting.

The classic grille for F-150 has also been redesigned with premium materials and colors to perfectly complement the color and shape of the vehicle.

On trim options like STX, customers will experience the all-new coast-to-coast grille which blends more aggressive styling with classic Ford design language while maintaining the Built Ford Tough capability that is central to the F-150 nameplate. This coast-to-coast grille gives customers the option to add modernized, sporty styling to their F-150 vehicle with excellent durability thanks to Built Ford Tough construction.

STX customers will also notice Lime Green accents throughout their vehicle to truly make it pop.

F-150 now has more distinct appearance packages designed to help meet every customer's need and use case. The Black Appearance Package, one of the most popular choices, is now offered on models from STX through Lariat. The Platinum series will feature a blacked-out interior and exterior accents from factory.

New wheel options perfectly complement F-150 appearance packages - customers can choose wheel options ranging from blacked out to chrome depending on trim choice. Multiple wheel designs and sizes, depending on vehicle series, work to help ensure that there's an F-150 vehicle for every personality.

The Platinum Plus series, new for 2024 and replacing Limited as the most premium vehicle option, provides even further luxury for F-150 customers. Platinum Plus includes an exclusive Smoked Truffle Interior Theme with Bronzed Copper accents.

Base Platinum has Platinum Blue accents along with genuine brushed aluminum.

A dual grain strategy is used on XL and STX grilles to accent the geometry, giving it a more refined and technical appearance while also providing Built Ford Tough durability.

On XLT and Lariat, the new modernized Medium Dark Smoked Truffle color seats paired with a black interior give the vehicle a warm appearance, combining earth and mushroom tones for a natural feel that's the perfect companion to the black interior color scheme. Platinum Plus will also be available with a new Smoked Truffle interior featuring Dark Smoked Truffle accents.

The new King Ranch® interior includes updates such as a bi-metallic color scheme on the interior and exterior, now with Sinister Bronze paired with chrome, and perfectly communicates the tough, yet refined design language of King Ranch. To add even more customer-focused detail, door and trim details now feature a micro-texture reminiscent of a bullwhip - a small detail that is perfectly fitting for King Ranch.

The exterior and interior design of King Ranch, which previously included a single metal finish, will be complete with a two-color metal finish strategy to give a premium appearance to the vehicle. An all-new Bronzed Copper finish will accent the tarnished brass metal finish in the interior of King Ranch.

Every material in the Ford F-150 is held to the highest standards of quality. The fabric on seats, for example, is specifically designed to meet the high-intensity use cases of F-150. Likewise, the new grain selection for F-150 was specifically chosen for its durability and scratch resistance. The grain patterns used in front-end materials are designed to be robust to minimize damage from rock chips, with the F-150 front end featuring one of Ford's best performing grains for scratch and marring resistance.

I would totally rock a F150 Platinum as a daily, too bad it's so fucking huge, expensive, and thirsty.

Also lol @ that front cam pic in the Tremor promos. There's nothing I'd rather see out my front cam than the back of my winch.

I like the Tremor, just not the price tag. The mid-tier F150 Tremor I saw at my dealer when we were doing the finance on our Expedition had a sticker in the $70s.
My 2016 XLT (granted, a much lower spec to a Tremor) stickered for for under $50k.

Looks like upper 50s for a mid-tier XLT & Upper 70s for a high trim Tremor. Guessing the B&P isn't sorted out yet. You can't do a high spec XLT without the Heritage pkg, which is a bit on the ugly side, IMO.
Not much off the 2023 pricing on the Tremor. Local dealer has 20 'in stock'. Upper spec units in the mid to upper 70s.

Looks really nice! Just so much money as already mentioned. Everything getting too damn expensive.

And I like the "updated" Ford Blue Oval logo as well.

That's crazy considering the that's like the second of 4 trims in the "off road" bucket. The Raptor is going to be 90 with the Raptor R being 110+. Insane money for a pickup truck.

FX4, Tremor, Raptor, RaptoR being the 4 tiers?
I'd be content with a FX4 Lariat, more of a blank slate to do your own thing & a 95% pavement princess, so I don't really need the Tremor or the Raptors, just like the look of the Tremor.

They are all for looks haha. I know the Raptor is immensely capable of doing desert running and stuff but no one out there is going to be doing anything close to resembling that. The biggest is hitting a curb in the Target parking lot at 5mph.

None of them are particularly off road capable like a Jeep or Bronco because of how effing enormous they are.

Ford introduced a new F-150 Lightning model - F-150® Lightning® Flash™ - a tech-forward offering that brings together most of current customers' favorite features under $70,000.

The Ford F-150 Lightning Flash expands on the XLT model line by adding in-demand tech capabilities, including an extended-range battery, which has a targeted EPA-estimated range of 320 miles, available Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving, and a standard 15.5-inch touchscreen for seamless interactions and navigation. The F-150 Lightning Flash customer values an EV powertrain and advanced tech features paired with a more accessible price point and the F-150's proven ability to handle anything- whether it's people, pets, or gear.

"The F-150 Lightning Flash is a direct outcome of engaging with and learning from our customers. This truck combines many of the technology-forward features our customers love in our EV lineup, at a more accessible price. With an EPA-estimated 320 miles of range, the Lighting Flash is another example of the speed at which we are adapting to grow our EV business." - Marin Gjaja, Chief Operating Officer, Ford Model e

Our available hands-free highway driving technology, Ford BlueCruise, can help make driving less stressful and more enjoyable. The Ford F-150 Lightning Flash comes with version 1.2, which includes Lane Change Assist, allowing the driver to change lanes hands-free by tapping the turn signal once the path is clear, and In-Lane Repositioning to help to keep the vehicle in its lane while subtly shifting position away from vehicles in adjacent lanes. It will also improve over time with software updates. And, with a new flexible option, customers can choose to activate BlueCruise at any point during their vehicle ownership journey - at purchase, annually or even monthly - and use it when they need it. Customers can also try BlueCruise for 90 days from vehicle purchase during a complimentary trial.

Charging

F-150 Lightning drivers can access the BlueOval Charge Network, North America's largest public charging network with over 84,000 chargers. Starting next year, F-150 Lightning drivers also will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers, making it the largest integrated fast-charge network across the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, Ford EV dealers are also adding public-facing fast-chargers and locations to the BlueOval Charge Network.

Charging a vehicle at home is as simple as charging a phone. F-150 Lightning owners can charge overnight with the available Ford Mobile Charger on a 240V wall outlet. To maximize home charging speed and connected features at home, they can purchase the Ford Connected Charge Station and its on-demand 48 amps of power.

That's some slick marketing since the Blue Oval Network is not a new network, just a pay structure to access third party chargers.

https://carbuzz.com/news/watch-ford-...off-road-climb

Both Ford and Rivian are using Tesla's off-roading failures to promote their own vehicles' capabilities. A couple of weeks ago, we showcased a clip of a Tesla Cybertruck tackling some light off-road trail. It was at the Hollister Hills State Vehicle Recreation Area (SVRA) in California. The blocky electric truck didn't impress as it showed difficulty turning and gaining traction on the SVRA's "The Steps" section.

Fast forward to today, Ford CEO Jim Farley posted a clip on X showing the F-150 Lightning giving the same stretch of trail a go. Compared to the Cybertruck, the Lightning managed to avoid loss of traction on the very same turn. Its tires squealed a bit on the uneven uphill passage, but generally, it did it smoother and faster than the Tesla could.

Yet another video also from X then goes on to show the Rivian R1T pickup truck battling the same hill, conquering the challenge faster than both the Ford and the Tesla.

Do note that the R1T does have a couple of aces up its sleeve. As commenters pointed out, it showed more suspension flex than the Cybertruck and the Lightning. We aren't sure as to what R1T trim was used on the clip, but note that its most potent quad-motor version is more powerful than the Ford, with 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. The top-spec F-150 Lightning makes 580 hp and 775 lb-ft.

For now, only the Cybertruck's dimensions and interior measurements of the Cybertruck have been leaked, and we know next to nothing about its powertrain. It was already indicated that it's getting a high-performance three-motor variant, which could at least hold a candle to the Rivian R1T's more humble 665 hp version.

Going back to the hill-climb clips, plenty of other factors could determine the performance of these trucks in the said off-road section. As such, comparing how they did via clips alone isn't an accurate representation of their true capabilities.

There are plenty of important factors in play, too, that aren't revealed in the clips. What tires were the trucks using? Were they over-inflated or not? Did the Cybertruck have a novice driver, and did the other two EVs have more experienced pilots? Once the Cybertruck rolls out this coming November 30, hopefully, we can witness more proper comparisons between these electric trucks, but on face value, it seems that the Cybertruck will be comprehensively out-performed off the beaten path.

Raptor R v Hummer EV

Jump to 8:00 in the video for the actual race

https://www.motor1.com/news/696315/g...r-r-drag-race/

In the fast-evolving landscape of automotive technology, electric vehicles have emerged as more than just environmentally friendly alternatives. A prime example of this paradigm shift in performance recently unfolded on the drag strip between two vehicles you wouldn't expect to see in such surroundings. The GMC Hummer EV and Ford F-150 Raptor R are big, heavy trucks packing gobs of power. One is electric, the other isn't.

By now you should know the GMC Hummer, the resurrected icon that has redefined what it means to be an electric pickup truck. With a robust design and cutting-edge technology, the Hummer has become a symbol of power and performance in the electric vehicle realm. On the other side, the Ford F-150, America’s favorite combustion-powered vehicle for decades, is stepping into the ring in its range-topping Raptor R version.

The numbers don’t lie – these are two very capable machines in their respective segments. The Hummer has a three-motor electric powertrain with a claimed output of 1,000 horsepower. It tips the scales at 9,640 pounds, making it significantly heavier than its combustion-powered competitor. The F-150 Raptor R, in turn, is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with 700 hp at the crank. At 6,000 pounds, it would be the heavyweight contender in virtually any drag race. Here, it's essentially a feather. Relatively speaking, of course.

We know that in drag races, there are many factors that decide which vehicle is faster. At the end of the day it all comes down to power, weight, and traction. The GMC Hummer has an advantage in two of those three categories, basically giving the Raptor R no chance on the strip. In the first start, the electric truck beats the ICE one with a solid gap, and in the second one, the Raptor R is given a truck length to make things more interesting. That doesn’t really change the outcome of the race and for the final round, the Ford gets three truck lengths. Is it enough? Yes, but just barely. After a very bouncy start, the Raptor manages to eke out a win from the hard-charging GMC. Had the finish line been a bit further down the track, it would've been a different outcome.

Say what you will about electric power. At least the future won't be a slow one.

So the Hummer smokes the Raptor and Cybertruck obliterates the Hummer and every other pick up truck on the market.

Water is wet again.....

Ford has given its best-selling vehicle with a mild refresh for the 2024 model year. The F-150's face is more square, and at the back, some trim levels get the trick Pro Access Tailgate. But you don't care about that. You care about horsepower, and now we finally have the final piece of the 2024 F-150 puzzle. 720 of them, actually.

That's what you'll get under the hood of the newest Raptor R, which needs no introduction as Ford's high-speed off-road rig. It has 20 hp more than the outgoing model, and 18 hp more than the 2024 Ram TRX, which retires this year along with its 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8. Whether Ford's power increase is related to the Ram's departure, we have no idea. But the timing is convenient, as it ensures the TRX will not go down in history as the most powerful gas-powered pickup truck of all time.

How does Ford get the extra oomph from the Raptor's supercharged 5.2-liter V8? The official press release highlights a new engine calibration and "reduced air inlet losses," which Ford further explains as changes to the hood and body close-out panel for more airflow to the air filter. The result is the aforementioned 720 hp and a wider torque curve, though peak torque remains the same at 640 pound-feet.

Of course, the engine is a derivative of the 5.2-liter mill used in the most recent Mustang Shelby GT500, where it made 760 hp. When the V8-powered Raptor R debuted in 2022 with 700 hp, Ford said the engine was retuned with improved low-end power for better use in a truck application. The trade-off was peak output, but now it seems Ford engineers have found some middle ground.

As with other F-150s, you'll identify the 2024 Raptor R primarily by the new headlights with daytime LEDs forming a half-square around the outside edge. You won't notice anything new inside, save for a heads-up display that's optional for the first time in the F-150 family. Raptors ride on new dual-valve Fox shocks, but if a $110,000 pickup isn't your jam, less-expensive F-150s now have a standard-issue 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 making 325 hp.
