Hennessey Ford F-150 Raptor - Tuned VelociRaptor Gets 605 HP

The Hennessey VelociRaptor does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, or as we like to call it, "crazy fast for a pickup truck."

For many Ford F-150 Raptor buyers, the stock 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque will be more than enough for dune-jumping fun. That said, some customers will undoubtedly want more, and for that, they'll turn to Hennessey Performance Engineering. The Texas tuner just announced the VelociRaptor, its new upgrade package for the Raptor, which cranks the truck's 3.5-liter V6 up to a righteous 605 horsepower and 622 lb-ft of torque.

That power bump drops the Raptor's 0-60 mph sprint by 0.8 seconds, to 4.2, and the quarter-mile time to 12.9 seconds at 110 mph, an improvement of 0.8 seconds and 10 mph respectively.

The VelociRaptor upgrades consist of new turbochargers running increased boost pressure, a low-restriction intake, and an upgraded intercooler. Hennessey also installs a new stainless steel dual exhaust, and modifies the engine management system to take full advantage of the new equipment. The upgrades cost $22,500 and come backed up with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty from Hennessey. Interestingly, Hennessey's home page says the company can build you a Raptor with up to 700 horsepower, but there's no word on how much that extra grunt costs.

To up the ante further, Hennessey also developed an off-road package that adds new front and rear bumpers, additional LED lights, 35-inch Toyo tires (which, oddly, are the same diameter as the Raptor's stockers), and a three-inch suspension lift. You can add this off-road kit to a standard Raptor or a tuned up VelociRaptor for $12,995.

For 2017, Hennessey only plans to build 100 VelociRaptors, so if you want one, get your order in soon. Of course, you might want to wait until Hennessey brings out its six-wheel VelociRaptor 6x6. That's the one that ups the ante even further.

2017 Ford Raptor 6x6 - Hennessey Velociraptor

The Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6 has 150 extra horses and 50 percent more wheels than the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor.

Six hundred horsepower. Six-wheel-drive. Meet your terrifyingly awesome twin-turbo nightmare: The Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6.

Hennessey Performance took one look at the 450-horsepower 2017 Ford Raptor and said, "sure, but what about more?" Two more wheels, another driven axle, and 150 more horsepower later, you've got this monstrosity. Buckle your brain-belts, it's about to get radical in here.

Hennessey says the VelociRaptor starts at $295,000, including the 2017 Raptor SuperCrew on which it's based. The rest of that money goes toward the 6x6 locking axles, upgraded Fox Racing suspension, new 20-inch wheels and super-wide tires, custom bumpers front and back, a bed-mounted roll bar, and all the LED lighting you could ask for.

Those who want all that power without a 50-percent increase in tire costs can opt to equip their 2017 Raptors with the VelociRaptor 600 engine upgrade and forego the 6x6 conversion. The engine kit brings new turbos, a custom exhaust, front-mount air-to-air intercooler and a new ECU tune, bringing power output to "more than 600 hp" at a cost of $22,500.

But, c'mon. If you've got the means to go 6x6, go with the freakin' 6x6. And give your G-Wagen 6x6-owning neighbor a taste of America.

Ford reveals $100,000 F-450 pickup truck - Sep. 28, 2017

Sure, your truck is nice. And it can tow some. But it's not a Ford F-450 Super Duty Limited.

Ford just unveiled this new truck, which can cost as much as $100,000 and tow 15 tons. So the F-450 Super Duty Limited may not only cost as much as a Mercedes-Benz S-class luxury sedan, it can also tow six of them at once.

It's the most expensive mass-produced pickup ever to drive off an assembly line, according to Ford.

It has a special "satin chrome" grill, as well as power running boards that drop down as the door is opened to provide an easy step up into its very high cab. On the inside, the truck has lots of two-tone leather, real wood trim, heated and cooled massaging seats, a premium 10-speaker stereo, and a big panoramic moonroof with retractable shade.

It also has all the technology you'd expect in a luxury car, like active cruise control, which automatically maintains a set distance behind cars ahead, and automatic lane-keeping alerts.

"This is like a luxury office on wheels for these customers," Bran Rathsburg, Ford's Super Duty Marketing Manager, told CNNMoney.

Ford's Super Duty line of trucks, including the F-250, F-350 and F-450, are big heavy-duty work trucks designed for serious towing and hauling. They're considerably larger and more capable than the popular F-150 pickup. They compete against trucks like the Fiat Chrysler's Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks and General Motors' Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks.

Ford has offered the luxurious Limited trim on the F-150 for a couple of years now. It's the most expensive trim level on a Ford pickup. Others include the Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.

This is the first time the Limited trim has been offered on a bigger Super Duty trucks. The fact that half of all Super Duty trucks are sold to consumers -- as opposed to corporate fleets -- have luxury option packages indicated to Ford that there would be a market for the ultra-luxurious Limited trim in these trucks.

The sticker price for an F-450 Super Duty 4x4 is $87,100. Truck buyers who opt for every remaining option -- among those not already included are a truck bed extender and an off-road package -- can end up with a $95,000 truck. After taxes and fees, it'll cost over $100,000.

If you're not ready for all that, of course, the cheapest Ford Super Duty truck still starts at just $32,000. Don't expect any massaging seats.

My dealer has a black 2017 King Ranch F450, $83k sticker:

I have no use for a dually, so a SRW 1 ton would work fine for me. Actually a short bed F250 PSD would be more than enough to tow anything I can think I'd have need of.

With as crazy expensive as trucks have become lately, it sure would be nice if the manufacturers went a little more upmarket with the interiors...still too much cheap plastic.

With the price tag on the F450 (and other big trucks) the interior materials and finishes should be closer to that of a BMW/Audi. Not what you can find in the entry level F150/chevy etc..

Unlikely, especially since now the F150-450 all share the same cab. I wouldn't think they'd go too out of their way to upscale it, unless the equivalent trim across the board got the same treatment.
I'd say it would make sense for a Limited/Platinum/KR to have nicer interior materials than an XLT/Lariat, across the board 150-450.

They currently make so much fucking money on luxury trucks that they won't be doing this for a while. The market currently doesn't demand the nicer materials, they just want to be somewhat coddled without feeling like a euro driving toolbox while carrying their own toolbox in a $70k truck that's more expensive than most euro cars anyway.

Edit: According to Ford:

Ford F-Series sales totaled 77,007 trucks for August, a 15.0 percent gain. Demand remains strong for high trim-level Super Duty trucks, with Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum accounting for 53 percent of retail sales last month. This, together with demand for Raptor, translates into a $3,400 gain in F-Series average transaction pricing versus 2016 – now $45,600 per vehicle
They are almost printing money with these things.

I personally hate driving trucks. Drive the V8 Tundra SR5 previously on a daily basis with one of my previous jobs.

I hate backing out from parking space in that thing.. cant see shit.... and i always felt there is a car in the blind spot when i change lane... turning your head does not help at all.

I am the opposite

all my life hates trucks
as I am a sports car and motorcycle guy

but after we got the 4 door tacoma love it
not for its handling or motor

but in a truck people don’t cut you off as much
and don’t try to mess with you on the roads

backing up or changing lanes had never been an issue

but since we added a Leer Camper backing up is a little hairy because now there is three tinted window you have to see through

the rear window of the cab
the front window of the camper
the rear window of the camper

thus when I use the truck I either park far away or back into spots

as fsr as tundra goes
the double cab has a huge B pillar which the regular cab and crew cab doesn’t have

I think Tacoma is probably a lot easier to drive than the full size truck. Probably lane departure warning would help... but it was not available back in the days.

I have an 8" screen in the dash with a good quality backup camera, backing up is no problem here
Makes hitching up a trailer a breeze too.
I played with the trailer backup assist a few times, but found that I can manually park a trailer better since the TBA won't cut a really sharp turn. A neat feature if you struggle with backing a trailer.

Having had nothing but cars since I started driving, it was a bit of an adjustment, but I live in Houston, pretty much everything is truck sized here.
Drove my mom's '11 F150 through LA (from near Bakersfield to Anaheim) once, felt like I was threading a needle just going down the highway; lanes seem narrower than they are here. I could drive a dually through downtown Houston no problem.

^ There is not a 4cyl F150. The 2.7EcoBoost V6 is the smallest engine available.

Ford added a diesel engine choice to its 2018 F-150 lineup a week before the Detroit auto show. The Power Stroke name will be applied to a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel making 250 hp and 440 lb-ft torque while returning a claimed 30 mpg on the highway in Ford's best-selling half-ton pickup truck.

The 3-liter V6 is less than half the displacement of the company’s monstrous 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8, available in the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups, but still promises up to 11,400 pounds of towing capacity along with 2,020 pounds of payload in the F-150. Ford says it was designed for the needs of North American buyers.

“For every truck owner who wants strong fuel economy while they tow and haul, we offer a new 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 engine,” said Dave Filipe, vice president global powertrain engineering. “The more you tow and the longer you haul, the more you’ll appreciate how efficient it is at the pump.”

The new Ford diesel gets a graphite-iron block, forged steel crankshaft, aluminum-alloy pistons and a second fuel filter for extra fuel system protection. Peak power comes at 3,250 rpm while peak torque comes way earlier, at 1,750 rpm. A variable-geometry turbocharger increases responsiveness and reduces lag, says Ford.To keep its new diesel cool, Ford uses a standard mechanical engine fan along with dual radiator shutters that open for improved high-temperature, high-altitude performance. In easier conditions the F-150 slows the fan speed using a viscous coupler and closes the shutters when necessary.

“We know that diesels with electric cooling fans have to dial back on power under extreme heat and altitude, so we decided on a viscous-controlled mechanical fan that has the capacity to move much more air across the radiator and intercooler in extreme conditions,” said David Ives, Ford diesel engine technical specialist. “This gives F-150 Power Stroke owners more power and more passing capability in harsh conditions.”

The new diesel F-150, in dealerships this spring, uses the company’s new ten-speed automatic transmission and auto stop/start comes standard. It’s available in 4x4 and 4x2 configurations in a selection of trim levels along with both SuperCrew and SuperCab bodies.

We’re still waiting on pricing, but the 2018 F-150 starts at about $28K and goes beyond $60K for the Limited model. It's safe to expect the diesel to add at least a few thousand dollars to the price of a comparably equipped gasoline F-150's sticker price.

It'll be interesting for sure. Only a bit more torque than the 2.7/5.0 (400lb/ft) & less HP, but likely to be more efficient in towing.
No doubt a few Ram EcoDiesel v F150 PSD comparisons are on the way.

We Learn A Little More about the 2020 Ford F150 Hybrid (Detroit) - The Fast Lane Truck

Ford released a few more details about the upcoming 2020 F150 Hybrid. Ford made several announcements at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) that have to do with electrification of their cars and trucks. The company is investing $11 Billion in order to bring 40 different electrified vehicle nameplates to market by 2022.

Turbo-diesel half-ton trucks are all the latest rage, but Ford has not forgotten about electrification.

A big part of the electrification push is the F-150 Hybrid that will be produced at Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant. Ford says the truck will be in production in 2020. Ford says the truck will be able to “bring the tools to the job site, and also power that job site.”

Ford showed a quick video featuring a white F-150 truck that was presumed to be a hybrid, and which was powering a TV showing a football game during a black out.

Here are a few snapshots from that video.

Ford has used the “leaves” as a metaphor for efficient driving, but does this gauge graphic match a character of a pickup truck?

That article got me thinking.. what happens when you mix Diesel Turbo + battery? I mean you would have insane amount of torque without using much fuel...... um....

I think the even better option is a diesel range extender over a gas one. Diesel motors run at their absolute best when kept at a steady RPM for long periods of time and consume a lot less fuel to produce a fuck ton of torque doing it...which is exactly what a range extender needs. BMW and Chevy should just drop a small diesel into the i3 and Volt instead of the gas motor.

^ Only potential downside to that is something like auto-stop. Does it work well with a diesel? Not sure if the PSD in the F150 will have auto-stop like the rest of the range.

You wouldn't have to use the auto stop with something like this. It would only function to charge the battery and wouldn't be at all connected to the wheels so it would just run for however long to charge the battery and shut off regardless of vehicle speed.

Good point.

I am curious to see if Auto-S/S makes its way onto the normal PSD powered trucks, or if the diesel will be an exception to it. Not even sure how/if it would work well on a diesel.

JLR has it on their diesels and it seems to work fine.

The only purpose for Auto-stop is to be compliant with whatever BS EPA regulation, i think they can just get rid of that feature.... it is annoying as shit anyway.
Besides i dont think i3 has auto-stop, at least not when i am driving it. It does not seem like it is On anyway when it is idling

I can't help you much about backing up, but, for changing lanes- I remember I almost crushed a ford festiva with my dodge 1500 work truck, several years back. Yep, I shoulder checked. Couldn't see that car for the life of me.

What I learned was to angle the side mirrors so that all you see is just barely the edge of the truck. Give yourself the widest view possible- you don't have to see your own vehicle. You're sitting in it. Since I started pushing out my side mirrors as far as possible, I've never had a blind spot issue ever again. I don't even shoulder check anymore- or very rarely.

Gasp! Such bad driving habits! Truth be told, even when shoulder checking, I can't see shit around the back half of my TL. The mirrors show everything though. I also hate shoulder checking because that 2 seconds you're looking back, you can't see shit in front of you. I've known a few people who ended up rear ending the vehicle in front of them because the driver up front hit the brakes and they were shoulder checking and didn't realize... until it was too late.

With the mirrors out, I just glimpse at them while still facing forward, I see quite literally see everything on either side the car, and make my move. 4.5 years of driving like that without a single issue, ever. They teach us to shoulder check in driving school, but in my mind, it's a bad habit. Especially with new cars that have increasingly terrible side and rear view visibility. The same thing with my 370z. You can't see shit out the back of that car besides black interior plastic when shoulder checking. Pushing the mirrors out is a must.

I've noticed all too often since that happened, that people generally have their side mirrors in way too much. There's no reason 1/4 or even 1/3 of your mirror is looking at your own vehicle. You know where your vehicle is and what it looks like!

Yep, 90% of the people on the road have their mirrors adjusted wrong. Most think they need to see the side of their car while driving.

Ford has now been hit with a lawsuit on Diesel Gate

https://www.motor1.com/news/227023/d...it-super-duty/

F-250 and F-350 pickup owners claim Power Stroke diesel engines do not meet emission requirements.

Another day, another claim of diesel engines not meeting federal emission standards. This time the Dieselgatecrosshairs are leveled at Ford, courtesy of a lawsuit filed yesterday from disgruntled F-250 and F-350 Super Duty owners who allege their trucks emit far more nasty bits into the air than advertised. How much more? According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, the suit alleges 500,000 Super Duty trucks manufactured from 2011 through 2017 can emit up to 50 times more pollutants than allowed. Bloomberg News reports that the suit includes 58 alleged violations of state consumer law, racketeering, and false advertising.

Ford is holding firm that it has done nothing wrong. In a statement to the Detroit Free Press, Ford spokesman Mike Levine said that Ford vehicles, “including those with diesel emissions, comply with all U.S. and EPA and (California Air Resources Board) emissions regulations. Ford vehicles do not have defeat devices. We will defend ourselves against these baseless claims.”
Automotive supplier Bosch is also named in the suit and is accused of allegedly developing software that allows for adjustment of various parameters while being tested.

I thought this is what everyone did...

Besides i dont think i3 has auto-stop, at least not when i am driving it. It does not seem like it is On anyway when it is idling
It does help if you're in traffic or city driving. After a while you realize how much gas you're wasting just idling. I don't think it really makes an appreciable difference but it doesn't really bother me much since the Jeep kicks on pretty fast. Most people don't even notice it's doing it.

I just rely on my BSA and back up camera.
