Thumbs up Ford to bring in RWD cars from Australia...

FINALLY...!!! This is fantastic news...!

=============

Like GM, Ford’s future RWD vehicles may come from Australia

Ford today announced that its development team in Australia is working on new Falcon and Territory models that will form the basis for several potential large rear-wheel drive vehicles. “While we have no concrete export plans to announce at this time, our new strategic direction as a company will involve us actively targeting additional opportunities for our outstanding domestically manufactured vehicles,” a Ford official said. Ford is rumored to be working on a new line of rear-wheel-drive vehicles, including a retro-styled sedan to compete with GM’s planned RWD Impala. Recently, it was reported that GM’s Australian subsidiary, Holden, would be developing that platform for the next-generation Camaro, GTO, Impala, Monte Carlo, and others.

I have no faith in management at Ford...especially concerningy why they didn't bring these models over a lot sooner. And even now, they're only "considering" it...WTF?

That's like being with a 350lb life-sucking bee-yotch that doesn't even put out, and then actually taking time to consider what to do and hesitating on the decision when Giselle Bundchen asks, "Do you want to f**k me?" It's just plain MADNESS!

Hey now, I'd hafta think for a second on what the catch was if Giselle spread her legs for me...I mean, c'mon, I'm a mortal here!

What really gets me is here we have Ford talking about how things are going badly...How Bill Ford is trying extra extra hard to get buyers back with redesigns and etc. He already has it in Australia...The cars from there are phenomenal (read any review of the Aussie Fords and you'll get the same verdict) esp. the performance line which makes SVT look like IMO...

I just don't get it...They already HAVE the assets which require no R&D...All Ford needs is just a big boat that can ship a few cars over a body of water.

Same can be said for GM. Holden has cars that are just as good as these Fords, if not better, but GM, until recently, didn't even consider bringing them to the US. And when they did in the form of the Monaro/GTO, a poor rebadge effort of the standard Monaro was not well received.

What they should have done was bring over the HSVs.

...this just in.....Ford SUX SUX SUX SUX in the North American Market!!!!!!!

Hey Ford execs.....simple solution to make Ford sales go through the roof:
Dump the majority of the N. American market cars and replace them with Ford overseas product.

The way for Ford to properly do this is to design a "world" RWD platform. The platform will remain the same, but the exterior and interior styling has to be pinned in the US. The GTO was a failure because of that, plus importing the car bumped up the planned MSRP.

Ford should have brought this car over here years ago. I'd take a Typhoon over a Rustang anyday.

Like most people care?

Brag about the HP, brag about the style and options, neglect to mention the weight...that's how Acura sold me a CL-S!

A powerful car needs a strong chassis. Strong chassis = heavy weight, unless you want to pay mega $$$ for aluminium chassis such as for the NSX and the A8.

I'm w/ you man!

I've actually seen 2 older models imported out here in So Cal, i've also seen a few utes, man I love those ute's!!

we have a salesman who is down in AU often, he says these V8 powered cars are EVERYWHERE. When I brought my GTO to the office the first time he was like, "man that car looks familiar"

I really have no clue why these cars aren't brought here, it's rediculous. They'd make a killing, esp. now that we have cars like the SRT-8's. It'd be great competition for M3's, S4's, hell even the big dogs!!!!

They race the living piss out of these things down under, this and the ford basically dominate their touring series.

I actually saw the one that C&D (or was it motortrend?) had on loan from Holden to do testing in the US. It was the previous generation HSV R8 and was such an impressive piece of work. My only concern about owning one of these things in the US is the price of gas and my heavy right foot.

The C6 weighs under 3200 lbs and doesn't employ anything exotic to do it (just mechanically simple engine and suspension components + plastic body panels). And you can go buy one for ~$40k.

Why buy a 'sports car' that weighs as much as a huge luxury barge? Neither will handle for crap, so you might as well have more space and comfort.

wow there is a light at the end of the tunnel for ford

weird. It kind of makes you wonder if Ford was holding out on purpose. weird business strategy. Let's make everyone think we're on the brink of collapse and bring out the most awesome cars we have overseas to america. that typhoon looks like if you took a evo and fused it with a 2005 mustang. I'd buy one.

They have tried this before (Ford Capri) and like the current GTO - for some reason sales soften after the hype dies down.

It didn't stop these guys from running the 1/4 mile in the high 10's with a few mods, with the stock turbo and without nitrous.. And that was just the "regular" XR6T Falcon with an auto tranny.

One thing about Australia that I couldn't comprehend (due to my NA thinking @ss) ... "UTES" (aka pick-up trucks). They love their utes over there.

Another thing: why drool over a Ford when you can import a R34 Skyline and actually drive it on the correct side of the road? Just have it pass inspection (ie take out the xenons) and you're good to go.

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/for...x.php?act=home

Maybe I'm not feeling the non-USDM Ford love here?

The Skyline costs too much to import. Plus, while it's a nice car in its own right, it does only come in a 2-door model. These Holdens and Fords come in both 2-door and 4-door models and would make for a fantastic V8 muscle car for the whole family.
