Ford: 500 news

So far all Ford is showing of the upcoming Five Hundred is a soft rendering. But we’ve caught the real thing! Granted, it is covered in camouflage, but there is no mistaking – this is the 2005 Five Hundred.

The Chicago-built Ford Five-Hundred, code named D258, has obvious European influences in its overall design. Powered by a Duratec 3.0-liter V-6, the Five Hundred will be offered with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a CVT. Front-wheel drive will be standard, with an all-wheel drive option available.

The Five Hundred will be sharing its platform with the future Freestyle crossover and is expected to be at dealerships sometime in 2004. We’re anticipating pricing in the $25,000 to $30,000 range.

How can you say that? You can't even see what the car looks like under all that masking.

The 500 isn't even going to be in the same class as the Taurus, which will be replaced by the Ford Futura. This car is sized between the Taurus and the Crown Vic and priced in a different market.

Calling this a bloated Taurus is like calling the CL a bloated RSX.

Hopefully this car will look like the concept drawings -

The Zebra coloring is there because it fools spy photo lenses. It will not be an option, I am certain.

That is what it looks like but, I am sure the spy photographer is at least 1/4 mile away, maybe more. It's not easy to get spy photos. Especially when the company does not want you to. Most spy photos are there because companies want spy photographers to take pics of their new cars. Few times it really happens to beat auto comapnies in the spy game.

My girlfriend and I saw the EXACT car in the spy photos on I-275 southbound just north of I-96. I didn't get a chance to snap a picture because he took a different expressway than me. :o

We got one in our garage @ work. The interior is pretty nice... Haven't driven one yet... might get to in a couple more months.

There's a station wagon as well... Not the most exciting car.

Sorry for the size, don't have image editing software.

That is the 2004 Mondeo ST220.

That's a good lookin car IMO

edit: GD Ford ... How the hell could that car NOT sell here? The preponderance of marketing arms driving manufacturer distribution decisions is just galactically asinine.

I'll agree that the Futura moniker is terrible, but learn your history. The Futura is not a new name. Its being recycled from about 30 or so years ago.

That car is beautiful. Why doesn't Ford sell that EXACT car here? I am sure it would be a hit!

I keep wondering that same thing. Apparently Ford gets a bunch of retards and morons together for their Focus groups and they all want incredibly bland cars.

As screwed up as Europeans can appear to some of us sometimes, they have far better looking cars

Beacuse Ford's NA Marketing division said that another car would be more appropriate. It ended up being the...Ford Taurus. Imagine...

When I was a kid and my parents told me over and over again what was good for me, despite not having a clue to the fact, I got really pissed.

These marketing morons are doing the same thing. Limiting our choices by telling us what is good for us. Yet no one says anything. I don't understand.

Anyone else think that except for the grille, it looks like an Infinity? Q45 maybe?
On the outside, I mean.

That 2004 Mondeo looks great!
