Fisker: Alaska News

It's easy to understand why Fisker is expanding the Ocean family with the outlandish Force E. At the same time, the Ronin is a Super GT all-electric convertible with a price that will make you dizzy ($385k) to ensure it's as exclusive as the highly-anticipated second-gen Tesla Roadster. But the PEAR and Alaska pickup truck are even more enjoyable.

First, the PEAR is an acronym for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution, which in turn means we will deal with a six-seat crossover SUV that has a 'Houdini' trunk and a potential sub-$30k asking price! That's right up Tesla's cheap EV alley, right? Secondly, there was also the Fisker Alaska – a sustainable all-electric pickup truck that aims to score a touchdown in the field of EVs where the GMC Hummer, Rivian R1T, and Ford F-150 Lightning will do heavy battle with the GMC Sierra EV, Chevy Silverado EV, Ram 1500 REV, and – of course – the mighty Tesla Cybertruck.

But it seems that Fisker aims to undermine all of them in front of potential customers with "versatile, advanced, and powerful all-electric four-door pickup truck" that will make use of Ocean's FT31 platform and feature cool stuff like a cargo bed extendable from 4.5 feet to 7.5 feet and then to 9.2 feet, plus yet another 'Houdini' trick, this time a bed-to-cockpit divider that can be hidden away and connect the cargo bed to the rear area of the cockpit.

Interestingly, we could have gotten a better look at the upcoming Fisker pickup truck, which is touted with a starting MSRP of $45,400 and an expected EV range between 230 and 340 miles (370 to 547 km). Instead, we could only catch glimpses of the prototype that went on stage. Luckily, that changes now, as Fisker just revealed additional details about the EV pickup truck. And finally, we can take a look at the sporty design in a natural environment.

To be manufactured in the US, the Fisker Alaska "breaks with convention" because although it looks like a mid-size pickup truck (think Rivian R1T), it can also expand its bed and capabilities to snatch customers from the full-size class. The trick is simple – drop the 'Houdini' partition behind the rear seats, and the bed expands from 4.5 to 7.5 feet. If you also lower the liftgate and drop the rear seats, the usable length increases to 9.2 feet, while foldable panels protect the rear seats.

It's also a pickup truck adept at doing 'everything,' including sporty driving, while still touting the comfort of a luxury SUV. The model can already be reserved for $250 or just $100 depending on the battery version - 75 kWh and 113 kWh, with ranges of 230-340 miles and zero to 60 mph (96 kph) sprint times of 3.9s to 7.2 seconds. However, don't expect deliveries to start soon – Fisker touts a scheduled production start during the first quarter of 2025!

Additionally, Fisker wants to make it the lightest and most sustainable EV pickup truck in the world (a tall order, especially the first desiderate) and promises Alaska will come with lots and lots of quirky features, such as "a big gulp cupholder, the world's largest, a cowboy hat holder, cockpit storage for work gloves, a large center armrest with storage for flashlights and pens, and a passenger tray with a tablet holder."

The Fisker Alaska is the company's "everything" vehicle: sporty handling and driving dynamics combined with luxury SUV comfort and everything that discerning buyers in the booming pickup-truck market expect. But Fisker also intends to make the Fisker Alaska the world's most sustainable pickup when deliveries commence in 2025.

The company is also innovating with the vehicle, particularly when it comes to the bed, which is designed to expand from 4.5 to 7.5 feet thanks to a Houdini partition behind the rear seats that can be electronically lowered into space created by the battery layout of the FM31 platform. The Houdini door will be protected by a flip-up panel. With the powered liftgate dropped and rear seats lowered, the bed expands to 9.2 feet. When the rear seats are folded down and the Houdini is lowered, the rear seats are protected by fold up panels including a panel folding up behind the front seats. Beyond that, Fisker aims for the Fisker Alaska to be the world's lightest electric pickup and feature extra storage in an insulated front trunk.

The Fisker Alaska will be offered with two battery packs - 75 kWh and 113 kWh - that will offer range of 230-340 miles; the 0-60mph time will range from 3.9 to 7.2 seconds. The vehicle will be 17.4 feet in length and entice owners with a big gulp cupholder, the world's largest, a cowboy hat holder, cockpit storage for work gloves, a large center armrest with storage for flashlights and pens, and a passenger tray with a tablet holder. Wheels will be available in 20- and 22-inch sizes.

Production of the Fisker Alaska is expected to start in Q1 of 2025. Interested customers can reserve the vehicle for $250 for their first Alaska and fully refundable $100 for the second.
