My top 3 ubercars are: F1, Zonda, LaFerrari...but, it's like 1A, 1B, and 1C.

Not a terrible price.

I'm pretty sure that is Ferrari's official shot not Mattel's.

Their only decent release in the past 5 years is 599GTO, the most recent release, the F12berlinetta, still looks like crap IMO.

Yeah, the flat-black 599GTO is the only model I have from Hot Wheels. I dunno, just an FYI since there are so many who love the LaFerrari and well, will probably never see one in person. :)

seriously.

as far as the F1 goes, it's finally time. Not bad, being able to stay at the top for two decades.

srika Mar 6, 2013 06:02 PM

another thing, while I have no doubts that any of us here will ever own a LF, at least we can shoot for the 458, which, for all intents and purposes, is a mini-LF. I mean, at least that is within reach, I mean, sort of, I mean like, if you play your cards right, I mean it's like, in your hands.. to a degree... it's attainable that's all I'm saying!

Costco Mar 6, 2013 06:18 PM

all I can say is I've never seen another car hijack so many threads before. The LF gets discussed in the Veneno thread, the Agera thread, a couple of car talk threads....

The F1 will remain in a league of its own when you consider the car overall. It was an engineering feat that required complete driver attention; no ABS, no TCS, 6-speed manual, near everything purpose built for it. And amazingly, a very docile car that can be used every day.

The closest thing to it is the Veyron as engineering marvel. Both cars check all their boxes as high speed machines with ludicrous amounts of horsepower on tap, but usable on the streets & easy to drive. Both also carried ridiculous high price tags that the modern millionaire would have 2nd thoughts of. Both also should have also made it nowhere near the units they did; the Veyron has lasted through numerous 1-offs b/c of Ferdinand's persistence. They never made the company any real money.

It's too early to say if this Ferrari will do that, but I doubt it based on the fact that it wasn't built to do the things the F1 & Veyron did. It was built as a car with the ultimate goal of performance in mind, much like any Ferrari. It's usability on the road & it's difficulty to drive were most likely 2nd thoughts after the car's track capability was addressed first.

Same with the McLaren & a reason why it isn't built as a F1-successor in any way.

:chuckle: not to mention heated discussions!

although, if I say something like, Ferrari > Lamborghini, I'm not sure why people get offended.... :ponder:

It's like comparing Maradona, Pele and Messi... Who is better. Different times, different technologies... The F1 was THE ultimate car, the fruit of Gordon Murray's genius... Nothing could stand near this car in 90s..
And so many people still believe that the Ferrari F40 is the best Ferrari ever: scary and fast.
But there is no doubt the the new 458, F12 and the LAFerrari are better things overall...

The calipers take "slotted" to a whole other level...wow.
AND PS...THOSE wheels do that car some justice. Those 5 spoke tapered did absolutely nothing for me...detracted from the car.
AND LOL@my Brembo calipers on the BACK of this car.

I like both the P1 and the Huayra, but the P1 looks strange and the Huayra looks like it has a gaping mouth and antennas, but this, there's really nothing you can point out. Ok, just ONE tiny thing... the rear view mirrors stick out a little too much. Just a tiny bit. But I'm willing to overlook that. :D

This is just amazing. I expected it to be somewhat disappointing like the Enzo, I prepared myself to read about how "the aerodynamics dictated the shape [and that's why it's ugly]", but I never imagined it could look so amazing... It's like a kid drew the best-looking car he could possibly imagine without any regard for physics or engineering reality, and yet that's what they ended up with.

missed this post. dead-on 100% agreed. except for the side-view mirrors, I don't mind them. I think they work with the car.

Especially what you said about the Huayra - I mean I love the car for its performance and technology, but I'll never put it at a pedestal just because of that catfish grille. However, I let that slide now, given its performance. Yes, I am saying I don't think it's perfect. The LF is, perfect. :yum:

everything about this car is so deliberate - everything is where it is because they specifically wanted it that way - and they did it perfectly - look at the shapes around the taillights - they could have just made those round, to follow the shape. That would have been the easy, obvious way. But they chose to make abstract lines that intrigue the viewer and make him go "oh la la". Look at that diffuser. Perfection. The exhaust pipes - again - very direct and to the point - no stupid moldings around them like many other manufacturers do - no gimmicks - clear space and vision. Every single line is perfect.

krio Mar 7, 2013 01:23 PM

You know this car has smth reminiscent of the supercar of the 90s... curvaceous and muscular... you can see the F40-F50 and some of the Enzo... and the result is great.

Dr. Colorado Mar 7, 2013 01:54 PM

Aesthetically, LF>P1 IMHO. Rumor has it that Ron Dennis threw down a blistering lap time at Top Gear track in the P1, breaking the 1:13.8 record of the Huarya by 10 seconds. No video evidence so hearsay.

"Until the McLaren P1 throws down head-to-head against the La Ferrari, all of the performance claims in the world amount to little more than bench racing. Both automakers want to lay claim to the title of “world’s fastest,” but in the end only one will deliver the goods."

srika Mar 7, 2013 01:55 PM

10 seconds :what:

but for me though, I don't care if the P1 is faster than the LF that won't change anything for me.

It's like comparing Patek to Rolex. The Ferrari being Rolex:D

Unofficial allocation tally

US 120
Germany 50
GB 50-60 ??
Italy 25
Switzerland 20-25??
Canada 11
India 3
Australia 7

Roughly 300, I guess the remaining examples to Far East/China, Middle East, and Russia?

Black Tire Mar 7, 2013 03:25 PM

That has to be the downforce doing all that work.
