Ferrari Boss Hints Next-Gen Enzo To Get Twin-Turbo V-8

From Motor Authority: http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1...twin-turbo-v-8

The term "next-gen" gets bandied about rather haphazardly in the automotive journo biz. It's true that the next generation of a car is "next-gen" in a sense, but it's not usually a "next-gen" set of technologies in the larger sense. The next Enzo, however, will be truly next-gen, as it gets a twin-turbo V-8 and a heavily carbon fiber-based build.

Ferrari recently ruled out carbon fiber for all but its highest-end, low-volume cars due to its unsuitability for everyday use. But the Enzo isn't an everyday kind of car. And the next Enzo is doubly so.

We've reported as far back as 2007 that Ferrari would put a twin-turbo V-8 in its next Enzo, and now Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa has confirmed as much to Autocar--though only tacitly. When asked about twin-turbo V-6 and V-8 engines in Ferrari's cars, Felisa denied only the V-6s, saying that "Ferrari will not build a six-cylinder engine until customer aattutudes towards smaller engines change." Not exactly hard evidence for the twin-turbo V-8 Enzo, but with years of rumor building up to it, the unsaid words speak loudly.

The move to a twin-turbo V-8 for the Enzo is a big one, as Ferrari has remained firmly committed to big-output V-8s and V-12s right up to and through the 599XX and 599 GTO. The 599 GTO is Ferrari's fastest road car to date--even faster than the current Enzo.

We'll have to wait another year or so before we get any details on the next Enzo's power and performance figures, as it's not due out until calendar-year 2012, alongside the replacements for the 599 GTB Fiorano and 612 Scaglietti. But we'll keep our ears to the ground to bring you the latest as it breaks.

usually early renderings like this one don't make it into production...and we can see here that car is largely based on the enzo. also, magazines will make up a rendering to add visuals to the story to make it bigger than it currently is.

with that said, this car does look better than the enzo but its anybodies guess whether Azine people are giving up their nuts for this car or something completely different

edit: just saw original post was from last year....so my thought proves itself if I had wrote it last year.

Rumors about the next F70, new Ferrari Enzo

Autoweek

About a decade and a half after Porsche eschewed its lightness-and-small-displacement strategy and built a five-liter sports racer to take down Ferrari at Le Mans, a different sort of war kicked off between the two marques: a battle for supremacy in the super-supercar market.

In 1984, Ferrari built a radically modified twin-turbo 308 GTB with an eye toward Group B road-racing rules. Porsche countered the resultant 288 GTO with the mighty 959, which launched at about the same time as the 288's successor, the practically skeletal and infinitely loopier F40.

When Ferrari launched the Enzo Ferrari a decade ago, Porsche countered with a cost-no-object hypercar of its own, the Carrera GT.

Now that Porsche is set to produce the V8/hybrid 918 Spyder, featuring 718 gas-electric horsepower, Ferrari's Enzo successor couldn't be shown up by a mere Porsche. It just wouldn't do. So the new car, rumored to appear this fall, will feature 920 hp, 800 of those horses developed from a 7.3-liter evolution of the 599 replacement's V12, reports Automobile. The additional 120 ponies arrive electrically, via a kinetic-energy-recovery system.

Given that Ferrari is shooting for reduced weight, don't be surprised if the new car--unshockingly rumored to be called the F70--will weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500 pounds, about three-quarters of a ton less than the slightly more powerful Bugatti Veyron 16.4. Buff the mind's eyeball with the potential acceleration numbers. Now buff some more. Yep.

Amedeo Felisa is pressed for time. He has been in the office since 7 a.m., and now he's almost ready to go home for dinner, only to return again for the final 9-to-11 p.m. session. Felisa loosens his already loose tie by another inch, leans back in a high-tech yet creaking leather chair, glances at his wristwatch. What about the rumored entry-level Ferrari, the reborn Dino, a $175,000 sports car that would sit quite comfortably below the 458 and the California? The CEO-cum-chief engineer grins a steely grin, hits his ballpoint pen hard on the desk, then puts his poker face back on and slowly shakes his head. "You don't want to understand, do you? Believe me, there is no such Ferrari. We have no intention of increasing our production volume beyond what it takes to satisfy the growing demand of new markets like China and Russia." So, no response to the changing times? "I didn't say that," Felisa quips, and this time the broad smile is genuine. "The weight of our cars has to come down, the aerodynamic efficiency must improve, and now that Formula 1 is about to agree to switch to six-cylinder engines, a downsized powerplant may become acceptable for our next entry-level road car."

At present, the R&D team is busy putting the finishing touches on the new 599. The next top-of-the-line GT retains the current front-engine layout and the familiar transaxle gearbox. The main detail change concerns the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic we know from the rest of the range. Lower, lighter, and tied down by ground-effects aerodynamics, the two-seater will be powered by a V-12 that is expected to develop 700 hp. The same engine is slated for the Enzo replacement, which may be badged F70 and is set to bow this fall. The normally aspirated engine is said to displace 7.3 liters, and the maximum output of the high-revving unit will be a whopping 800 hp. On top of that, there is a KERS package that includes a 120-hp electric motor for a grand total of 920 hp -- or for zero-emissions travel.

Since the weight target of the carbon-fiber supercar was clearly inspired by the Millechili (1000 kilogram, or 2200 pound) concept, the F70 should come close to the track-only FXX, which weighed 2550 pounds. The F70 could potentially be quicker off the mark and faster overall than the 1001-hp Bugatti Veyron. On a sadder note, it may be the swan song for the V-12, which in all probability will eventually be superseded by a twin-turbo V-8.

In mid-2012, another lightweight Ferrari is due in dealer showrooms. After a few sessions at the local gym, the 458 Challenge is expected to emerge with a 150-pound weight loss and a 30-hp gain in power output, to 600 hp.

Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show, the face-lifted California is on a totally different mission. The Pininfarina-designed retractable hardtop is in the process of being beautified by Ferrari's own design team under Flavio Manzoni, and it gets a round of tech updates to match.

Satchel in hand and jacket over the shoulder, Felisa fields one last question. "No, Ferrari won't do a four-door sport sedan. We won't do a crossover, either. That's Maserati turf."

Looks like KERS style hybrids are the way of the super-future.

So far we know Porsche (918), McLaren (F1 successor), Ferrari (Enzo successor), Jaguar (Cx16), and Honda (NSX) are looking into brining this into production afaik

Cant wait to drive one of these beasts

Ferrari to show Enzo successor to selected customers by year-end

Up until now, there were rumors circulating around the auto industry that the much-awaited successor to the Ferrari Enzo would greet the public for the first time at the Paris Motor Show next fall.

However, a recent report published by Automotive News Europe reveals that the car will not be in Paris after all. Instead, Ferrari will display it for the first time at the end of this year at a private ceremony that will be attended by an elite group of current and potential clients, as well as some high-placed industry insiders.

Those who don’t receive an invitation to the event will have to wait until either the 2013 Detroit Motor Show or the 2013 Geneva Motor Show to see the car for the first time.

“We want to surprise people not just in terms of price but also with the car itself,” said Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.

Ferrari claims that the next generation of the Enzo will be the fastest and most powerful street-legal car it has ever offered, a title currently held by the recently-launched F12berlinetta. Its body will be made out of carbon fiber, and it will be powered by an all-new normally aspirated V12 engine.

Hosting a private unveiling ceremony creates the obvious opportunity for a photo leak, so stay tuned in the coming months for more information about the Enzo’s successor.

You didn't quote enough....

I don't think we'll be seeing 251 MPH from this.

You'd have to sell your house, your kids, and your wife to afford one.

And you know that doesn't even include the cost to maintain it.

We acknowledge that a fair number of independent design concepts found on the web are of mediocre quality, but every once in a while we stumble upon an study that has us really sitting up and taking notice. The Ferrari 612 GTO concept by Sasha Selipanov of Berlin, Germany is one of them.

A pure conceptual study for a top-end Ferrari, possibly a future generation of the 612 Scaglietti, Selipanov design proposal appears to borrow bits and pieces from certain supercars like the Aston Martin One-77 as well as Maranello's own 458 Italia and the classic 250 GTO, mixed with some unique styling cues.

The overall result, thanks in part to the high-quality renderings, is eye-catching, to say the least. What do you think about the Ferrari 612 GTO concept? Have your say in the comments below.

Am I the only one that doesn't really like it..... it looks ike Enzo on steroids!!! I like the original better, since it didn't have so much going on with it. Don't get me wrong of course I would take it if given, but just not feeling it if I had a choice.
