I will now join ClutchPerformer in a moment of silence as we pay respects to the clutch.
This time around, we also mourn the death of the legendary Ferrari gated shifter, on this, their new F430.
For me, a huge reason to buy such a car. The challenge of its menacing chrome plated gate now but a memory.
And yes, those mirrors are as ghey as it gets.
Looks great though. Too bad about the shifter. I'll pass.

Looks a little like a Porsche with those air dams in the front.
Phile, who's only been impressed by the Maseratti Quattroport so far.

First Look: Ferrari F430 set to replace 360 Modena, car to bow in Paris - - MAC MORRISON - - Source: Autoweek
These are the first official photos of the Ferrari F430, the Italian sports car maker’s 360 Modena replacement. Slated to bow at September’s Paris motor show, the latest prancing horse features revised bodywork and a more potent drivetrain. Easily spotted external changes include a beefy front bumper with reshaped air intakes, modified side intakes and an Enzo-like rear end with a monster aerodynamic diffuser.
To achieve performance on par with Lamborghini’s Gallardo, the F430 gets power from a 4.3-liter V8 engine derived from sibling marque Maserati’s Coupe, Spyder and Quattroporte. The Ferrari uses a flat-crank, unique intake manifold and lighter internal parts to churn out 483 hp at 8500 rpm, a significant improvement over the 360 Modena’s 400 hp rating. Just as promising, torque rises from 275 lb-ft to 343 lb-ft at 5250 rpm. Ferrari claims the new car sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 4.0 seconds, a half-second quicker than the old model. Top speed bumps to 196 mph—a 13-mph improvement. Ferrari says it has modified the F1 gearbox’s performance, with shifts taking a scant 0.15 second.
Ferrari officials say they have imbued this road car with Formula One technology, including an electronic differential and a steering wheel-mounted switch resembling those found on its F1 steering wheels; the switch lets drivers change traction and stability control settings. Carbon-ceramic brake discs are optional. Pricing isn’t set, but expect to pay at least 10 percent more than the Modena’s $158,000 base (approximately $175,000) when the F430 hits our shores, likely in spring ’05

A new prancing horse has bolted from Maranello's famous gates, and it looks set to be a true thoroughbred.
We have the first official pictures of the Ferrari F430, which debuts at September's Paris Motor Show. It replaces the 360 Modena and is a technical tour de force, with a number of innovations lifted from Michael Schumacher's all-conquering Formula One racer.
Auto Express readers will, of course, already be familiar with the car after our world exclusive story gave a highly accurate sneak preview in Issue 815. The F430 has been penned by Pininfarina, under the watchful eye of Ferrari's design chief Frank Stephenson. Many cues are taken from the race-tuned 360 Challenge Stradale, with a deep front spoiler, low side panels and a louvred rear end. Four individual lamps are integrated into the tail and the F430 badge is engraved into the door mirrors.
In true Ferrari style, as much prominence is given to the engine as to the model's looks. At the back, a huge see-through cover gives a clear view of the all-new 4.3-litre V8 - complete with its bright red cylinder heads. The unit offers 490bhp, enough to propel the car from 0-60mph in less than four seconds, and on to an estimated 196mph top speed.
The F430 bristles with new technology. Two world firsts on a production model are the electronic differential (E-Diff) and the steering wheel switch, which allows drivers to manage the vehicle dynamics system. Both are taken from the F1 racer. Also borrowed from Schu's car are the carbon ceramic brake discs and auto gearbox, complete with steering wheel-mounted paddles. The cabin has a minimalist look, with the centre tunnel trimmed in hand-stitched tan leather and the dash coated in soft black hide.
Only one version of the F430 will be available at launch, but Ferrari is said to be working on a drop-top Spyder and a stripped-out Stradale. The newcomer is due on sale here next summer and is likely to cost slightly more than the 360 Modena, which starts from £103,275. Craig Cheetham

At last this car now has the power to support its price and...name. Can you tell the GT is giving them a hard time at Ferrari?
Ferrari has not made such dramatic jumps in HP from gen. to gen. cars many times before.
