Dodge Demon News **To be FWD (page 3)**
From Leftlanenews...
Dodge is developing a rear-wheel-drive roadster to compete with the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, according to a published report citing credible sources. It will have some similarities to the 2002 Dodge Razor concept (pictured).
The new two-seater will arrive at the Geneva auto show in March, according to the the latest issue of U.K. weekly car magazine Autocar. It will fit with Dodge's performance brand image, placing it squarely against Pontiac's Solstice, the report said.
"The small sports car market is an ideal fit for Dodge," Chrysler Group design chief Trevor Creed told the magazine.
Chrysler is undoubtedly hoping the Dodge project will experience more success than the Chrysler-brand Crossfire. The two-seat roadster and coupe have been criticized for being overpriced and not competitive enough.

I thought that I remembered this concept. I just didin't remember how long ago it was out. (2002) That seems like eons ago. I would hope that they wouldn't have just relied on this design for the past 5 years, because it was ugly from the outset, and time has not lessened the blech factor.

Someone needs to tell Dodge not to build that. It will just put them deeper in the hole. Seriously, they should just fix the Crossfire, I mean FFS its got a good platform, put a real engine in it, optional 6 spd and update the styling.

Something about it makes me think of a Bugeye Sprite. The headlights look close together and stick up...

Front is totally Toyota MR2 Spyder, with TT thrown in the rear. And is that loop supposed to be the door handle?

Hot commodities coming to the Swiss show - - By JONATHON WONG - - Source: AUtoweek
Dodge hints at a small, affordable roadster for its worldwide lineup with the debut of the Demon concept at Geneva. Envisioned as a competitor to cars like the Mazda MX-5 and Pontiac Solstice, Demon gets its power from a 2.4-liter 172-hp, 165-lb-ft four-cylinder engine, hooked to a six-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. Watch for a complete dossier on Demon in a coming issue of AutoWeek.

2007 Dodge Demon Concept - - by Marty Padgett (2007-02-12) - - Source: The Car Connection
Does Dodge have a Caliber-based roadster on its mind?
That's the easy question to ask as the Chrysler Group brand drops the veil on a new two-seat roadster coming to the Geneva motor show next month. The Demon, Chrysler says, is a "nimble roadster with an attitude" - a roadster that shares its world four-cylinder powertrain with the new hatchback introduced last year.
The Demon, unlike the Caliber, driven by its rear wheels. But like the Caliber, the Demon sports a 172-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 165 pound-feet of torque. Here, the engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The package sounds a lot like the Miata and the roadsters it's spawned in the past decades. Chrysler says the Demon is a balance of classic proportions and modern design. The overall shape has echoes of both the company's own Viper and the less pricey Honda S2000, with a surfaced body, trick LED backup lamps and a signature Dodge crosshair grille. Big 19-inch wheels accentuate the Demon's kicked-up tail and tough stance.
Inside, Chrysler says the Demon has a no-frills interior with an emphasis on performance. Aluminum trim frames all the essential controls - gauges, air conditioning and radio - while the separate console houses the shifter, e-brake and power outlets and cupholders. A three-spoke steering wheel evokes the proper sportscar themes.
Chrysler doesn't admit to any production plans for the affordable sports car concept - but then again, the car hasn't even been seen in public. Stay tuned as TheCarConnection reports from the Geneva show floor in March.

It's quirky and I kinda like it.
It reminds me of a DeTomaso Mangusta but with a more chiseled design. The front view is very aggressive but at an angle it loses that muscularity. The rear is serviceable but a little bland for so much surface area.
Also, I'd get rid of the notched wheel wells and go with a smooth arc.
Make it RWD with a slightly staggered setup and I think it works.

And 170 HP from a 2.4L 4-cyl? Mazda's already doing that with their 2.0L and not to mention the Miata is a lot lighter than 2600 lbs.

It's a bit of a mish-mash of styling cues and the wheel arches are a bit odd, but overall I like it a lot. The front is obviously cribbed from the Viper, the back from a TT, and the interior is a bit retro-roadster-ish. I like the interior details too, unlike the Sky/Solstice. (The Sky's door panel is ridiculously cheap -- it's a single piece of hard plastic. Really.) And I don't mind the fake aluminum trim as long as it keeps costs down (the TSX uses it too).
There's no shots of the top up though ... I hope they're not trying to hide something.
Edit: yeah, an SRT version would rock. C'mon, let's see a HEMI or the 8L Viper engine. Please?

I kind of doubt Dodge's small engine will do a better job.
The dash looks simple and I think that's fine.

In fact, I hope this becomes the SRT-4. Making a Caliber SRT-4 is like sticking a firecracker in a turd ...
