SsangYong Back With Rex Machine


t's a name that hasn't appeared on a new UK car since 1999, but Korean firm SsangYong is back. The firm that brought you the Musso and Korando is now offering the Rexton.

Priced from £18,800, the 4x4 - styled by ItalDesign of Italy - will be on sale by the end of September at 30 new dealers. Buyers get a choice of 118bhp 2.9-litre turbodiesel or 217bhp 3.2 petrol engines, mated to a manual or auto box. Standard kit includes alloys, roof rails, CD, climate control and wood trim.

Meanwhile, smoked glass, leather seats, split-entry tailgate and a sports pack consisting of side mouldings and steps are all optional. SsangYong first started selling cars in the UK back in 1995, and its two-model line-up continued until 2001, albeit with Daewoo badging for the final two years. GM's 2002 takeover of Daewoo has left SsangYong UK, a new firm, free to bring the models back. The new dealers will service old cars.
