August 16, 2006 New diesel engines for Citroen's C8

Citroen C8 buyers can now do their bit for the environment thanks to a brace of new diesel engines for the big French MPV.

Now topping the turbodiesel range, the 2.0-litre HDi engine with 136bhp is capable of 40mpg and has emissions of 188g/km.

With 236lb ft of torque, this engine can haul the C8 up to 118mph should you be that way inclined.

For those not looking for supercar performance, the 120bhp 2.0 HDi turbodiesel turns in 41mpg and turns out 182g/km of carbon dioxide.

Prices for the 120bhp model start at £18,000, and the 136bhp version kicks off at £20,025.

New Minivan Gets 40 MPG
Now Playing: Clann Zu
Topic: Diesel
Citroen upgraded its C8 minivan with a new diesel engine that can gets 40 miles per gallon. The 8-passenger vehicle can use up to 30 percent biodiesel. Unfortunately its only available for the European market.

Priced at the equivalent of $34,000, it's not cheap, but considering that you would save about $1,000 a year in fuel costs over a standard minivan (averaging about 22 mpg). With the new cleaner diesel fuel that's out, you don't have to worry about the smell.

If someone (are you listening DaimlerChrylser and VW?) brought a diesel minivan or station wagon to the U.S., I bet they would find a willing public looking for a powerful hybrid alternative that can fit a family and their belongings.

It'll be a while till the Oddy gets a disel - Honda's first push into diesel will be the Americanized 2.2l iCTDi. That's too small for the Oddy.

The problem is that IN North America the diesel is not as good and refined as the one in europe. Actually most europeans diesel won't work very well in north america

It is as of this month. ULSD was mandated 6/1/06 and should be making its way through the distribution chain now.

The Bluetec diesel in the future GrandCherokee (and E320CDI) assumes the use of ULSD. Many makers should have diesels in the MY08 lineup.
