Chrysler unveils 2007 Pacifica
Chrysler today rolled out the 2007 Pacifica with a new 4.0-liter single overhead cam (SOHC) aluminum V-6 engine mated to an all-new six-speed transmission. In addition to the updated exterior, new engine and new transmission, the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica models offer more standard safety features including all-row side curtain air bags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), traction control and an available ParkView rear back up camera. With a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for front- and side-impact, and four stars (the highest rating of vehicles tested in its class) for roll-over, Pacifica offers best-in-class safety without sacrificing style or performance.
"Get behind the wheel of the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica to feel the increased horsepower and torque that the new 4.0-liter engine and six-speed transmission provide; it’s a great driving experience," said Larry Lyons, Vice President – Front-wheel Drive Product Team. "We’ve also added standard safety features including all-row side curtain air bags, ESP, all-speed traction control and brake assist that offer consumers peace of mind when traveling."
Offering the capability of all-wheel drive in a stylish vehicle with the flexibility and utility of an SUV or minivan, but the fuel economy and safety of a passenger car, the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica is perfectly positioned for active individuals and families who want to arrive at their destination in style. With first-class seating including available heated first- and second-row leather seats, dual-zone temperature controls, Bluetooth compatible UConnect hands-free communication system and SIRIUS satellite radio, the new 2007 Chrysler Pacifica fits in at the country club or the soccer field.
Introduced originally in the spring of 2003, the Chrysler Pacifica was targeted to reach the more than 2.3 million consumers moving between traditional vehicle segments each year. Combining the best attributes of a minivan, passenger car and SUV in one stylish vehicle, the Chrysler Pacifica came to market as one of the first vehicles in the sports tourer segment. As the segment continues to evolve, the Chrysler Pacifica leads the way.
The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica appeals primarily to active families with older children at home. They want a vehicle with premium amenities that handles like a car, has sport utility-like capability, offers the roominess of a minivan and has an upscale appearance, for a price that makes sense. The typical Pacifica consumer is a married female between the ages of thirty-five and fifty who is a college graduate, has an average annual household income of $85,000 and has children over the age of 10 at home.
Revised Interior
The original Pacifica was designed with a handsome, protective appearance. It offered a stylish exterior with a first-class, flexible interior experience that didn’t compromise safety and security. The new 2007 Chrysler Pacifica takes that starting point and enhances it with an exterior makeover that gives it a more contemporary look, keeping pace with the rest of the Chrysler showroom.
"The Chrysler Pacifica has always been an elegant, distinguished vehicle," said Joe Dehner, Director – Exterior Design. "The 2007 Pacifica adds more contemporary exterior cues and attributes in line with the Chrysler brand, while keeping the first-class interior design features that our customers love."
Design cues that bring the "protector" appearance to life for the 2007 Pacifica include a broad-shouldered, wide stance, emphasized by a protective and distinguished "face." A sleek, solid exterior with a crisp, distinctive character line that begins at the front wheel opening and ramps up slowly toward the rear emphasizes the vehicle’s beltline.
Chrysler-brand-inspired strakes on the hood, the "face of Chrysler" headlamps, full-width chrome accent strip on the front fascia, a new grille with three horizontal bars and the distinctive Chrysler "winged badge" are some of the exterior design attributes that give the new 2007 Chrysler Pacifica its distinctive and recognizable style.
The Chrysler Pacifica interior follows the same clean, sculptured, elegant flow of the exterior. The vehicle features easy step-across entry and exit and chair-height seats that give passengers a sense of security and a commanding view of the road. Other new interior features for 2007 include YES Essentials stain resistant, odor resistant, anti-static cloth seats, a new two-tone instrument panel and door trim, revised instrument cluster graphics and five- or six-passenger seating for a stylish, solid and secure ride.
"The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica gives first- and second-row passengers the feeling of traveling first-class," said Dehner. "With the improved driving experience, the style of the 2007 Pacifica had to keep pace."
The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica Limited model incorporates exclusive design cues, including a monochromatic exterior, interior seating and trim as well as standard 19-inch chrome-clad wheels.
Enhanced performance
The new 2007 Chrysler Pacifica provides an enhanced driving experience with a new 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 engine, the most powerful naturally aspirated V-6 engine in the Chrysler lineup. It is mated to a new six-speed transmission. The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica is the first Chrysler Group vehicle to offer the 4.0-liter V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
The new engine utilizes a long stroke for the improved low rpm torque, which provides quick and impressive engine response around town and offers the power consumers expect from a world-class V-6 engine. The 4.0-liter V-6 engine produces 255 hp @ 6000 rpm and 265 lb. ft. of torque @ 4200 rpm, which is 15 more lb. ft. of torque at peak power rpm, and as much as 35 lb. ft. more torque throughout the power curve than the previous 3.5-liter V-6 engine.
"The 2007 Pacifica’s new 4.0-liter, V-6 engine improves the torque curve in the low- to mid-range for more pep during acceleration from idle," said Bob Lee, Vice President – Powertrain Engineering. "Reductions in powertrain noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) also rank the new Pacifica among the best-in-class."
When developing the 4.0-liter engine, Chrysler Group engineers focused on five primary Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) metrics: engine vibration at the powertrain mounts, radiated noise, crank shaft torsionals, induction snorkel noise and sound quality. Attention to these metrics resulted in an improved engine design, which includes new main bearing diameters on the crankshaft, lower reciprocating mass piston and rod assemblies, an improved block and oil pan structure, reduced bearing clearance, low rumble intake manifold and an equal-length dual exhaust. During development of the 4.0-liter engine for the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, the following design changes were made:
Modified powertrain mount cradle assembly including new powertrain mounts and mount tuning
New, larger halfshafts
New accessory drive package
New electronically controlled clutch on all-wheel-drive models
Modified engine cooling system
New front bearings
New power transfer unit mounting structure and input shaft
New powertrain system calibration
New dual exhaust system with two mufflers and resonators
The 4.0-liter V-6 is a single overhead camshaft, 24-valve engine that utilizes a semi-permanent mold cast aluminum block with iron liners and cast aluminum cylinder heads.
Added Horsepower, Added Torque and More Gears Equals an Enhanced Driving Experience When the new 4.0-liter engine is mated to the new six-speed automatic transmission, the new powertrain in the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica gives consumers more horsepower, more torque and an enhanced driving performance.
"Overall powertrain NVH is improved with the new six-speed transmission because the added gear ratios within the transmission allow lower engine operating speeds for the same vehicle speed," said Lee. "The new six-speed transmission also was designed to increase the peak launch torque capacity by 30 percent, allowing greater acceleration at start."
The new six-speed automatic transmission is standard on all Pacifica models equipped with 4.0-liter V-6 engines. Building on the capability of Chrysler’s four-speed automatic transmission, the six-speed automatic transmission adds two new primary gear ratios and a secondary ratio for optimized passing performance at highway speeds. The gear ratios of the six-speed transmission enable the engine to work more efficiently at lower speeds providing a pleasant driving experience.
Part and process commonization allowed Chrysler Group engineers to develop the six-speed transmission in a shorter period of time and at a lower investment cost than previous transmissions without sacrificing durability or quality.
Five-star Safety and Security Without Sacrificing Style or Functionality Safety was paramount in the design of the Chrysler Pacifica. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated the Chrysler Pacifica 5-star for front- and side-impact, and four stars (the highest rating of vehicles tested in its class) for roll-over.
The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica enhances the existing safety features by adding standard all-row side curtain air bags, standard ESP, traction control and brake assist. A ParkSense rear back up system and ParkView rear back up camera also are available.
"Chrysler Pacifica is designed to give drivers and other occupants peace of mind while traveling," said Lyons. "Loaded with safety and security features, the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica offers a wide stance, with suspension, steering and ride calibrated for optimal handling and stability."

The exterior needed more revising for more elegant styling than what I see here and the new engine is a disapointment on paper. Same peak power as the 3.5L! I cant believe this engine needs to turn to 6000 rpm to make 255HP out of 4 liters. What is the matter with these people? They could EASILY have made 310HP from this engine with the same torque characteristics at 6300 rpm. But I am sure they sacrificed HP for cheap NVH solution, better fuel economy and overall a safe design.

^ I'm with you on the engine. Also with the styling... more of a change was needed. I guess the ribbed hoods be part of the Chrysler design family, as it's found here and on the new Sebring, in addition to the Crossfire.

I liked the old Pacifica, when I first saw it I thought "wow, that's nice for a SUV/minivan". Very clean design not typical of a US company.
This one seems more "busy" to me, the concept photo looked nicer.

My mom actually owns a 2004 Pacifica Touring Edition. Its the second one she has had since July 2004.
My mom has cancer and she thought this vehicle would make her happy but it ended up being the biggest pain in our ass!
We ended up buying it brand new and paid cash money for it. The damn thing was THE BIGGEST LEMON in history!
Since we paid cash for it, we ended up getting the run around while they kept it for almost 2 months trying to "fix" it for the fifth time. It has serious electrical problems! We ended up having to get pretty nasty & the dealership owner ended up sending her the one she has now to keep from having to give her back the $33k she paid for it. I musy say the one she has now which is a beautiful vehicle but I just dont think it nor the other was worth the money. I have driven it on several occassions..the new one that is..and it drives very well however I personally dont care for them but she loves it.
It has every option available including Navagation which we both love & use often!
We are actually are going to be listing it on Autotrader for-sale in the next few days so we can have money to go to MD Anderson in Texas. So if anyone knows anyone that wants one..we have one! LOL!
