I'd rather save up some more $ and go for the MB than cheap out and get the Chrysler.

Big Price Cut on Crossfire

Price cut on Crossfire replaces big discounts
By Brett Clanton / The Detroit News
DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group cut the price of the Crossfire coupe almost 15 percent to under $30,000 to woo customers with lower prices rather than big discounts.
The 2005 Crossfire, due next month, will start at $29,920.
Chrysler has also said its new 300 Series sedan, due in April, will start at under $24,000. The new PT Cruiser convertible sells for less than $20,000.
“The idea is to offer better engineered vehicles at a better price point,” said Chrysler brand manager Scott Slagle.
Also coming this year are the 2005 Crossfire Roadster, a convertible priced from $35,000, and a souped-up coupe and roadster, selling for about $46,000 and $50,000, respectively.
Chrysler hopes to boost Crossfire sales after selling just 4,000 last year. Demand is growing with discounts that averaged $1,988 last month, according to Autodata Corp. Through February, Chrysler had sold 1,500 Crossfires.
Auto analyst Jesse Toprak of Edmunds.com said a less-expensive Crossfire should attract more mainstream buyers. “You could almost consider Crossfire a steal.”

If Customer A buys a Crossfire for $32,000 and receives a $2000 discount, then how is that different from Customer B buying a Crossfire for $30,000 with no discount?

I think he is referring to Customer C that was excited about the release of the new crossfire and bought the first one that hit the showroom floor. He got no discount and may have even payed a little more than premium.

Buyer Beware...that's what they get for paying a premium.
Dealers wouldn't charge a premium if retards stopped paying them.
Chrysler is finally coming around though...good for them. Hopefully other manufacturers will notice & do the same.

you know I actually like the Crossfire. A neighbor has a black one and it looks nice. I have three issues with the current model though: First and most important, it's a Chrylser. Second, it's only a two-seater. And third, it's way underpowered. It's too bad that once they come out when the new engine in '05 that they will once again price themselves out of competition. I have a hard time believing that many people are going to jump at a 50k Chrylser? Can you say Prowler revisited?!!

Cut-rate Chrysler Crossfires are listed on Overstock.com - - MARY CONNELLY | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek
The Chrysler Crossfire was conceived as a brand image maker.
Now the sports car is being touted on Overstock.com amid offerings for bedsheets and patio sets.
Shoppers at Overstock.com, an online outlet shopping site, are being offered discount coupons for the Crossfire coupe and roadster.
"2005 Chrysler Crossfire Special offer - up to $8,900 off MSRP," the site says. Coupons must be redeemed at a dealership. The deal expires Jan. 3.
Crossfires sat on dealership lots 230 days before selling in November, according to the Power Information Network. The industry average in November was 55 days.

No '06 Crossfires, but Chrysler promises '07 model
Mary Connelly | |
Automotive News | 6:00 am, May 8, 2006
DETROIT - Don't look for a 2006 Chrysler Crossfire on U.S. dealership lots.
With 2005 Crossfires still backed up on dealer lots, the Chrysler group will not import a 2006 Crossfire into the United States. Dealers have plenty of 2005 models left, says Eric Ridenour, Chrysler group COO.
"We have sufficient stock," Ridenour told Automotive News.
The lack of a 2006 Crossfire here doesn't signal the demise of the car, he says. The company is selling 2006 models in western Europe, he says. And Chrysler expects to offer a 2007 model in the United States.
Chrysler moved 2,709 units last month, up from 523 in March. In the first four months of 2006 sales totaled 4,103 units, down 6.3 percent from the same period of 2005. Because of the high April sales, the supply of Crossfires fell from 104 days on April 1 to 16 days on May 1.

When the rear-wheel-drive sports car debuted in 2003, the Crossfire was conceived as a halo car for the Chrysler brand.

Crossfire = last gen MB SLK but uglier. If you've ever sat in one -- the amount of blindspot is ridiculous. If that's a 'halo car' for Chrysler, consider themselves very lucky that the other cars in the line-up are making them $$$.

Report: Chrysler Crossfire to be discontinued this summer
From Leftlanenews...
Production of Chrysler's unsuccessful Crossfire sports car will end this summer, according to a report by German magazine AutoTelegraaf. The vehicle is currently built by Karmann in Germany.
Over a year ago, Chrysler paid Karmann to lower output of the ill-fated roadster/coupe. Production fell to around 12,500 in 2005, down from nearly 35,700 in 2004. The company sold 28,000 Crossfires in 2004 and just 9,900 in 2005.
Last year, it was reported that Crossfires spent an average of 302 days on the lot in 2005 before being sold.
The Crossfire is based on the previous-generation Mercedes SLK-Class platform. Weak sales have been blamed on everything from questionable styling to a high price tag.

Wow the SRT-6 has 330 horse and 310 torque in a car that weights 300 lbs less than a 350Z... How did they let this car fail? Why don't they offer it in a manual transmission?

the car handled sloppy and the interior sucked....and of course no manual gearbox.
I didn't even realize they were still making them. I figured once they were on overstock that was the end of that!
