The article says most of the money was put into the motor. I don't see any major suspension mods and such. This car is only good in a striaght line. And i've never seen a GoodYear tire that is actually good.

13.4 sec @ 105 mph is basically what a C5 did before 2001. Nice for this heavy beast.

Aside from larger tires, stiffer springs and roll bars what more would you expect?
Glinting from within the 9.0-by-20-inch forged aluminum wheels are four-piston Brembo calipers clamping 14.2-inch front and 13.8-inch rear discs riding on special forged knuckles. Bilstein shocks go in front, Sachs Nivomat shocks in back. Firmer springs and anti-roll bars fill out the handling package but, thankfully, don't chatter teeth on the highway. Tire choices are two: Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar summer or all-season Goodyear Eagle RS-As.

Rolling on summer rubber, the SRT-8 drifted with surprising nimbleness from corner to kink to straightaway at the Mojave's Willow Springs International Raceway. The stability-control thresholds have been nicely elevated, the computer programmed to spend more time turned off. Roll is tightly restrained. Understeer? Only if you fear the gas pedal.

Agreed to an extent, but the STS-V is more of an all-rounder vs. this thing that's great at the drag strip and that's about it.

I still see sports sedan buyers coughing up the extra 8k just for the manual in the STS.

No manual in the STS. The CTS has one.

I dont like the 300C's style and ergonomics but Chrysler has hit a homerun with this one.

Yeah, seriously... those tires are absolute crap. They were the OE tires on my wife's Matrix too. Total shit. Horrendous snow traction, almost dangerous.

I have heard so many negative connotations about this particular tire, it has got to be a bad product. Even if it were an average tire, to see it applied to an SRT product is curious.

an STS-V is like, what, $70k?

an SRT-8, get new tires, stiffer springs, sway bars, and it will still be less than $50k

Well, for that front to back thing, but not the side to side steering. It's a heavy V-8 sedan.

.....I dont think the 300C/SRT8 was engineered with Autox or D1 in mind. ...could be wrong though...

Well, I don't care about AutoX. I car about driving along the Oregon coast through the twisties over the cliffs, etc and having fun, rather than having to fight the car just to make it around.

Driving from NJ to Florida 2X/yr, I'd rather have something that can launch quickly and move fast in a straight line......not too many twisties along I-95.

Even though its styling is clearly Bentley derivative, its still in your face and so anti what everyone else is doing. What a car for the price. Very impressed.

Great performance car for people that don't want to pay an extra $40K+ for an E55 or M5.

I'm thoroughly impressed with this car. Perhaps I'll stop by my local Chrysler dealer and check one out with the Hemi motor. I can't wait to see the SRT-8 hit the showrooms.

I have to admit that I was impressed with how well it felt when I was in the back seat at the auto show.

I see the car as competition to the CTS-V. The caddy may be more of a performance car but I think this thing has a better interior and its about $10K cheaper.

The Caddy was test driven and developed on Nurbringing. Its a better overall car.

I also see it as CTS-V comp. Just the same though, I'd still rather have the CTS-V.

Do you think it might be underrated at 425 hp? A 4200 lb car with 425 hp should be fast but not that fast.

173MPH four door sedan for only $42K, damn! It would've be even faster if it didn't weigh over 4000lbs and have a front end shaped like a brick.
