Three Wheelin'
For those wishing for more testosterone from the SS, we know this is the first cut. Just like GM did with the G8 and the follow-up G8 GXP, I would bet my son's college fund the buffer version 2 is coming shortly afterwards...

SS.. SS?
SS-R?
The interior of this car and the Impala look pretty nice. I prefer buttons and knobs to Cadillac's new system.

DETROIT -- The Chevrolet SS sports sedan will carry a sticker price of $44,470, including shipping, making it Chevy's priciest sedan when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter.
The price is below that of the two main competitors in the small market for nonluxury, rear-wheel-drive performance sedans: the Chrysler 300 SRT ($47,240) and the Dodge Charger SRT ($45,270 for the Super Bee trim level). Both prices include shipping.
GM wants to conquest customers of those models while burnishing Chevrolet's reputation for performance by adding the SS to a lineup that also includes the Corvette and Camaro.
GM has downplayed sales expectations for the SS. In January, GM North America President Mark Reuss told an Australian Web site, carsales.com, that he would be happy with U.S. sales of 3,000 to 5,000 units a year.
Research firms AutoPacific Inc. and LMC Automotive are more bullish, with U.S. sales forecasts of 8,000 to 10,000 units for next year.
Through May, Chevrolet's U.S. market share slipped to 12.8 percent from 13.1 percent at the end of May 2012. For the first five months this year, sales grew 5 percent from the year-ago period to 821,674 units.
The SS, Chevy's first rwd performance sedan since it stopped selling the Impala SS in 1996, will be imported from GM Holden in Australia and built on the same platform as the Camaro and Holden's VF Commodore.
It will come in just one model. The only options will be a sunroof ($900) and a full-sized spare tire ($500).
Standard equipment will include: Brembo front brakes, forged aluminum wheels with performance Bridgestone tires, Chevy's MyLink infotainment system, color head-up display with color instrument panel, heated and ventilated memory seats, side blind zone alert and lane-departure warning and Bose audio system with one year of free SiriusXM radio.
The car will be powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 producing 415 hp and 415 pounds-feet of torque and will travel 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds, GM says.

I'm a Chevy guy but I'm not shelling out $45K for it anytime soon. If you want it for all the loaded stuff it's probably pretty reasonable. If you know where look you can get a Caprice (intended for police only), for $25K. Not as fancy but bolt on some headers, torque converter, and a tune and it'll fly. I'd still buy a used 09 G8 before this more likely. For now my old SS is gonna be the only toy.

Are there more trims coming soon? I'm surprised there's only one trim and one drivetrain. That price is scary because of that.
I don't think $45k is outrageous for a 415hp RWD sedan but the market is quite small for that? May be this is GM's strategy?
Dodge Charger starts at $25k with a V6 engine and goes all the way to $47k for a SRT8. Similar pricing scheme applies to Chrysler 300 and Genesis. Heck, even the G8 had a V6 version.

Doesn't sound like it. GM even wanted the "police" version erroneously sold to the general public back. GM already makes lower trims - it just doesn't want to sell it here because they can't money on them. They have the same problem that Japanese makers had until recently - a strong currency in the country of production.

This thing starts at $43k.
Who would buy this over BMW 3s?

It's much bigger than a 3.

I don't understand why Chevy needs 4 sedans. They could have made this the Impala SS and stuck a V6 in for the base Impala.
But since they went this route of a stand-alone model, why make it bland and auto-only?

rumor mill:
2015 model is getting a manual transmission and magnetic shocks.

I'm still holding out hope for the next generation. The Camaro is moving to the smaller Alpha platform, so hopefully they'll also carryover a smaller replacement for the G8/SS. I still think the name is goddamned stupid. Dear GM, please ditch the model name and the excessive, tacky black chrome interior accents.
I don't need something as nice as the ATS. Just offer a nice, midsized RWD V8 sedan with three pedals around $35k. $45k tops for a package with magnetorheological shocks and LSD, etc.

I'd still love to have one. But then again I drive a pre-sea creature era Infinity.

Is it? Kind of a shame, then again I don't recall seeing one on the street... at all. 4-door Camaro was a fitting name for it.

I've read nothing about it being discontinued...I did read the rumor that might put in a manual transmission...would give it one big advantage to the Charger SRT.

I've seen exactly one. Driven by a middle aged male. Sounded nice and took off like a bat out of hell.

I've seen two...one in black and another in the pearl white. Black FTW.
It is really nice to look at.

The first one I saw was in the showroom of a local Chevrolet dealer where I worked in college.
Came up on it from behind & thought "that's a nice Malibu, when did they start making an SS Malibu again"
Then I realized what it was
