Press release...

Redesigned for 2011, the Silverado heavy-duty lineup rolls into 2012 with even greater towing and payload capacities to lead the segment, including:

• Best-in-class 1-ton fifth-wheel towing capacity of 23,000 pounds (10,430 kg)
• Best-in-class conventional towing capacity of 18,000 pounds (8,164 kg)
• Best-in-class payload of 7,215 pounds (3,272 kg)

“The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado HD builds on the award-winning foundation created for 2011,” said Rick Spina, vehicle line executive. “We worked to raise the bar even further, developing engineering updates and conducting additional validation with the goal of making the new Silverado HD the most capable heavy-duty pickup ever.”

Thanks to a major update for 2011, Silverado HD won a number of awards and competitions, including 2011 Motor Trend Truck of the Year. Silverado HD also performed well in several head-to-head tests conducted by media such as PickupTrucks.com’s “Rumble in the Rockies.”

“The heavy-duty truck segment is one of the industry’s most competitive. The customers know what they need and how the competitors stack up,” said Spina. “When they compare the 2012 Silverado HD, they’ll find everything they’re looking for and more – including capabilities the competition can’t match.”

Also new for 2012 are an available navigation radio with a built-in hard drive, heated/cooled seats for LTZ models, and a Z71 Off-Road appearance package. Four new exterior colors: Silver Ice Metallic, Mocha Steel Metallic, Carbon Flash Metallic and Graystone have been added. Two new interior color combinations are available: Dark Titanium/Light Titanium and Dark Cashmere/Light Cashmere. For 3500HD dual rear wheel models, a new forged polished aluminum wheel is standard on LTZ models

Strategic enhancements

Silverado HD’s greater capability for 2012 comes from strategic enhancements incorporated into the chassis. Updates to the trailer hitch receiver (available in the fourth quarter), for example, enable the increase in conventional towing to 18,000 pounds from 17,000 pounds for 2011.

For greater fifth-wheel towing capacity, engineers strengthened the pickup box sills and other box structures along with the rear springs, U-bolts, and box mounts. The also revised the shock tuning, all of which contributed to the Silverado 3500 HD best-in-class tow rating of 23,000 pounds, up from 21,700 pounds in 2011.

Similarly, Silverado leads the class in payload, with a 7,215-lb. capacity. And as Chevrolet demonstrated in its recent HDtoHD video series, Silverado HDs strengths are evident on the road as well as the spec sheet.

“We encourage customers to test drive the Silverado HD against the competition,” Spina said. “Based on our testing, we are confident that the Silverado HD will prove to be the best choice for real-world towing and hauling.”

Chevrolet offers 10 2500HD models and eight single- and dual-rear-wheel 3500HD models, including regular cab, extended cab and crew-cab body styles offered in 2WD and 4WD. All share key architectural and performance features, including:

• Fully-boxed, high-strength-steel frames

• Available 6.6L Duramax diesel delivers 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque and B20 biodiesel capability

• 36-gallon fuel tank and engine efficiency to enable up to 680 miles (1,090 km) between fill-ups with the 6.6L Duramax turbo diesel

• Smart exhaust brake feature provides greater control on grades and reduced brake pad wear

• An array of standard and available control features, including trailer sway control, integrated trailer brake control, hill start assist, automatic grade braking, intelligent brake assist, and large brakes.

Purposeful technology

For 2012, Silverado HD offers a number of technical features that enhance the capability of the truck for both work and recreation, including a new navigation radio. It offers an enhanced display and now has a hard drive that eliminates the need for discs with map data. Silverado also continues to offer segment exclusive OnStar Directions & Connections with Turn-by-Turn Navigation and Automatic Crash Response, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth for phone and USB connectivity.

Chevrolet WiFi powered by Autonet, available through Chevy dealers, turns the Silverado HD into a mobile hot spot and an office on wheels, providing multiple users with full internet access inside the vehicle or up to 150 feet from the exterior of the vehicle.

For work sites, Chevy WiFi offers instant access to online ordering sites, municipal sites with building permits and building code information and more. For families on the go, passengers can connect with friends on social media sites, stream videos, find maps, check weather or search for fishing and camping sites.

Silverado HD also offers comprehensive confidence and control features. Trailer Sway Control, which uses the truck and trailer brakes and the powertrain controls to keep the vehicle and trailer on the intended path, is now part of StabiliTrak, as is Hill Start Assist, which avoids roll-back before accelerating on inclines.

New Z71 Appearance Package

Even trucks that work for a living should look good while doing it, so for 2012 Silverado HD will offer a HD Z71 appearance package for LT and LTZ models that includes a body-colored grille surround with a chrome mesh grille, body-colored bumpers and lower fascia, 18-inch polished forged aluminum wheels and other details.

Founded in Detroit in 1911, Chevrolet celebrates its centennial as a global automotive brand with annual sales of about 4.25 million vehicles in more than 120 countries. Chevrolet provides consumers with fuel-efficient, safe and reliable vehicles that deliver high quality, expressive design, spirited performance and value. The Chevrolet portfolio includes iconic performance cars such as Corvette and Camaro; dependable, long-lasting pickups and SUVs such as Silverado and Suburban; and award-winning passenger cars and crossovers such as Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Equinox and Traverse. Chevrolet also offers “gas-friendly to gas-free" solutions including Cruze Eco and Volt. Cruze Eco offers 42 mpg highway while Volt offers 35 miles of electric, gasoline-free driving and an additional 344 miles of extended range. Most new Chevrolet models offer OnStar safety, security and convenience technologies including OnStar Hands-Free Calling, Automatic Crash Response and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! The last gen interior was beautiful. I will have to hold out to see the LTZ interior since it was different from the base interiors but wow that went so backwards. The glove box is hideous. Hide them don't make them more obvious. In a couple of years I plan to pickup a Diesel 2500HD LTZ CrewCab.

I was thinking (hoping) that this could be the WT interior, but then I saw in the second pic that there are heated seat controls on the bottom right of the center stack...therefore this is an uplevel interior. Looks like CHEIT

I hate the column shifter, too...

TBH, I'm just picking on it simply because it's just that easy to do. but I bet the true owners won't even care. In fact, they may actually like this.

It could be the work interior still. The work interior and first two levels of the Silverado had the same interior. The LTZ was the only Silverado that had the same interior of the Suburban and Tahoe. I am also holding onto hope since that is a bench seat interior and the LTZ interior has a true full center console.

Post 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country

Press release...

The 2014 Silverado High Country will further broaden Chevrolet's portfolio in the premium pickup segment when it joins the LTZ and Z71 models in the Silverado lineup this fall.

Silverado High Country is distinguished by a unique chrome grille with horizontal chrome bars, halogen projector headlamps and body-color front and rear bumpers. Unique 20-inch chrome wheels with P275/55R20 all-season tires are standard, as are chrome body side moldings, door handles and mirrors.

Inside, Silverado High Country features an exclusive saddle brown interior, with authentic materials throughout. Features include heated and cooled perforated premium leather front bucket seats with High Country logos on the headrests, Chevrolet MyLink connectivity with an 8-inch touch screen, Bose premium audio and front and rear park assist.

"High Country will be the top model in the Silverado lineup, with a higher level of premium features and materials with a rich, Western themed appearance," said Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director. "But at the same time, High Country is 100-percent Chevy truck, with the capability and dependability customers have relied on for more than 95 years."

Standard engine for the Silverado High Country is the 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8, SAE-certified at 355 horsepower (250 kW), with class-leading V-8 fuel economy of up to 23 mpg highway (2WD models). The all-new 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 also will be available. Both engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing, proving the refined power and torque truck customers expect. Both seamlessly switch to four-cylinder mode to save fuel during light-load driving.

Because of the high level of standard equipment, Silverado High Country will offer only a few options. In addition to the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8, they include a chrome rear bumper with CornerStep, integrated trailer brake controller, sunroof, navigation, and a rear-seat entertainment system as well as a High Country Premium Package which includes heated steering wheel, driver alert package, adjustable pedals and integrated trailer brake controller.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world's largest car brands, doing business in more than 140 countries and selling more than 4.5 million cars and trucks a year. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature spirited performance, expressive design, and high quality. I don't get why Chevy went to these squared-off fender openings. I just don't think it works.

Post 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD High Country

Press release...

When you spend long days on the worksite or long nights towing a heavy trailer, comfort and capability are hardly a luxury.

With its quiet, well-appointed interior and advanced technologies that bring extra confidence to the most challenging towing situations, the 2015 Silverado High Country HD has what it takes to make the tough jobs easier.

Silverado High Country HD, Chevrolet’s first premium heavy-duty pickup, combines the refinement and convenience of the Silverado 1500 High Country with the rugged capability of the new Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD pickups.

Luxury for go, not for show

Unique content includes a chrome grille with horizontal bars, and body-color front and rear bumpers – including Chevrolet’s CornerStep rear bumper. All models include 6-inch tubular chrome assist steps, High Country badges on the doors and tailgate and High Country logos on the door sill plates.
Silverado 2500HD High Country models also feature a unique 20-inch chrome wheel. Single-rear-wheel 3500HD models have an 18-inch chrome wheel, while dual-rear-wheel models use a 17-inch forged polished aluminum wheel.

Inside, Silverado High Country HD features an exclusive saddle brown interior. Heated and cooled perforated premium leather front bucket seats with High Country logos on the headrests are standard, along with Chevrolet MyLink connectivity with an 8-inch touch screen, Bose premium audio and front and rear park assist.

Options include a sunroof, navigation system and a rear-seat entertainment system with a BluRay/DVD player, as well as a High Country Premium Package that includes heated steering wheel, driver alert package and power adjustable pedals.

New trailering mirrors available

Also available on the Silverado HD High Country are Chevrolet’s new up-level trailer tow mirrors. The chrome-capped mirrors manually extend for wider trailers and feature power adjust with memory and power fold. They include heat and turn signals in the glass. They also incorporate auxiliary clearance lamps and auxiliary cargo lamps to help make backing a trailer easier.

Engineered for capability, built for dependability

Under the skin, the new High Country models are 100 percent Silverado HD, engineered to tame the toughest tasks and validated by the team that has helped make Silverado the most dependable, longest lasting pickups on the road.

The High Country comes in 2500HD and 3500HD crew cab models in both two- and four-wheel-drive. The 3500HD High Country will be available in single- or dual-rear wheel models, with maximum tow ratings of up to 22,900 pounds for fifth wheel/gooseneck towing, and up to 19,600 pounds for conventional towing.

Like other Silverado HDs, the High Country HD will offer a choice of three powertrains:

A 6.0L V-8 specifically tuned for heavy-duty trucks, rated at 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

A bi-fuel version of the 6.0L V-8 that can seamlessly switch from gasoline to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

The 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel teamed with the Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. Rated at 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque, the Duramax V-8 features a variable-vane turbocharger that acts as an exhaust brake, helping control speed on downgrades for more confident towing.
The foundation of the 2015 Silverado HD lineup is a family of fully boxed frames, which use large cross sections, hydroforming and high-strength steels in key areas. The stiffness of the frames contributes to improved handling and ride comfort while the strength of the frames enhances payload and towing capability.

The Silverado HDs employ an independent front suspension specifically engineered for HD pickup use. Torsion bars tailored to the weight ratings of the trucks allow easier trim height adjustments. In the rear, asymmetrical leaf springs balance ride-and-load carrying and improve control of axle hop.
The new Silverado HDs are engineered to bring new levels of confidence to tough towing through further refinement of Silverado’s available cruise control, auto grade braking, and diesel exhaust brake. Integrating these features helps the 2015 Silverado HD maintain a set speed up and down grades, even when towing a heavy trailer in mountainous terrain.

Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD High Country models will be available starting this summer.

Saw one of these Saturday on the highway, had a conversion bed on it, but overall looked pretty good. Except the Duramax badges on the hood luckily those can be removed.

Post 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Rally Edition

Press release...

Chevrolet Silverado Rally Editions bring a sharp new appearance to 1500 double-cab and crew-cab pickups.

The Rally 2 Edition package for 2015 Silverado LT pickups features a body-colored grille with a black bowtie, 22-inch black alloy wheels, black tubular side steps and black mirror caps and door handles. Twin black Rally stripes on the hood and tailgate give the Rally Edition a unique appearance.

Also included will be a trailering package with a hitch and automatic locking rear differential, 10-way power driver seat, dual-zone climate control, remote start, backup camera and rear defroster. The eight-inch Chevy MyLink radio includes a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot with 4G LTE connectivity.

The standard engine for Silverado is a 4.3-Liter EcoTec3 V-6. With 285-horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque, providing up to 7,200 pounds of towing, based on SAE J2807 Recommended Practices. Like all EcoTec3 engines, the V-6 can seamlessly switch to four-cylinder mode to save fuel under light-load driving, delivering EPA highway estimates of up to 24 mpg.

Also available is a 5.3L Ecotec3 V-8. Rated at 355 horsepower, it provides the best fuel economy of any V-8 pickup, up to 23 MPG EPA highway.

“Silverado won more awards in 2014 than any other pickup, including North American Truck of the Year,” said John Fitzpatrick, Silverado senior marketing manager. “The Rally Edition packages will let customers add an aggressive new look to this great all-around performer.”

Silverado will also offer two Rally 1 packages for 2015. The package for LT Silverados includes a body-colored grill with a black bowtie, black door handles and mirror caps, stripes and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Also included is a trailering package with a hitch and locking rear differential, rear defroster and backup camera.

The Rally 1 Edition package for 2015 Silverado LS models includes the body-colored grille with black bowtie, black door handles and mirror caps and two black rally stripes.

Double-cab Rally Editions can be ordered by Chevrolet dealers nationwide starting on September 4. Crew cabs will be available for order in early October.

Silverado is the most dependable, longest-lasting pickup on the road, and all 2015 Silverados will come with the best pickup coverage in America, including a three-year/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, five-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, and two-year/24,000-mile recommended scheduled maintenance.

We've known for a long time that General Motors was going to respond in a big way to Ford Motor Co.'s lightweight aluminum F-150, and now some details of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups are starting to ooze out ahead of next year's introduction.

Automotive News, citing two sources, reported that the trucks will be available with a bed made of carbon fiber. The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, first reported the plans on Wednesday.

Such a move -- if the publications' sources are correct -- would likely shave hundreds of pounds from the trucks' curb weight. It would also probably add significant cost to the truck, which would mean higher sticker prices or lower margins or some combination of the two.

Combine the lightweight bed with GM's mixed-materials strategy of using high-strength steel, aluminum, magnesium and cast parts in the body in white, and GM -- on paper -- looks to be able to deliver a truck that will weigh significantly less than competitors such as the Ford F-150.

GM has been giving its mixed-materials manufacturing system a dry run on the low-volume Cadillac CT6 sedan, which when launched in 2016 was the lightest car in its class and the class below. By using different metals for the body structure, GM can save money on materials while producing a stronger, stiffer body. But using different metals greatly complicates manufacturing.

Not only do the right parts have to be delivered to the right place at the right time, but the number and type of fasteners also varies. Last May, GM let reporters peek behind its manufacturing r&d curtain, showing us how it was taking weight out of its vehicles. GM took issue with Ford's approach of using aluminum for the F-150's entire body in white.

"No single material is the right answer for every part of the body," Charlie Klein, executive director of GM's global CO2 strategy and energy center engineering, told me at the time. "Each material has its own properties. We use the best material for each component, the right material in the right place and the right amount of material."

Lowering weight, of course, brings many benefits, such as improved fuel economy, better performance and shorter stopping distances.

So, let's assume GM's new trucks -- it's possible they will debut next month at the Detroit auto show -- will be the lightest on the market.

The next question is: How is GM going to leverage that advantage?

The F-150's fuel economy didn't improve much initially when the truck switched from steel to aluminum. Instead, Ford decided to increase the amount of work the truck could do by raising the vehicle's towing and hauling ratings. That was a smart move.

If there is one thing that gets the attention of truck buyers, it's how hard a truck can work. Since Ford launched the aluminum F-150 in 2015, it has rolled out powertrain upgrades -- such as a new 2.7-liter V-6, and a 10-speed automatic transmission -- that have boosted fuel economy to a class-leading 20 mpg city, 26 highway and 22 combined. (Ram's 2018 1500 diesel is not yet listed in the EPA fuel economy guide.)

GM could mimic Ford and translate the weight savings into a bigger workload. It could also go for outright fuel economy leadership -- or a combination of the two. Even though gasoline is relatively cheap, fuel economy really matters to truck drivers. They don't like stopping at filling stations.

The stakes are high

Ford has consistently outfoxed GM for decades with the F-150, continually adding industry-first safety, convenience and luxury features and introducing the company's newest powertrains. Most importantly, Ford really gets into truck customers' heads by figuring out what buyers want.

The new Silverado and Sierra will be the biggest test for GM's product development chief Mark Reuss. With such vehicles as the Cadillac CT6, Chevrolet Volt and Bolt, and the Cadillac V-series high-performance cars, Reuss has engineered a remarkable turnaround at GM.

But the work of his team has been undermined in my view by ineffective marketing -- when was the last time you saw an ad for the Bolt EV, the Colorado diesel, the first truck to get an EPA 30 mpg highway rating, or the Cruze diesel, which has a 52 mpg highway rating?

There isn't a weak vehicle in any of GM's four surviving brands.

What to expect

For GM's new trucks, here's what I expect:
  • Outright fuel economy leadership in city, highway and combined ratings.
  • Outright fuel economy leadership while a truck is towing and hauling -- perhaps the F-150's only weak point.
  • Lowest curb weight, all models.
  • A robust repair program at launch that removes doubt about dealers and body shops being able to quickly and correctly repair accident damage.
  • Industry best stopping distances.
  • At least one new, exclusive technology, such as Dynamic Skip Fire, the next-generation digital cylinder cut-off system GM and Delphi Technologies is developing with Tula Technology Inc., a Silicon Valley startup.
  • An optional V-6 diesel to compete with the one coming in the F-150 and with the Ram 1500 diesel.
GM's full-size pickups have to make a big statement. These are GM's cash cows. They must be successful for GM to pay the bills to develop autonomous cars and to pay for the next generation of its electric vehicles and fuel cell technology.

Getting it right

And this time, all of GM's cylinders -- engineering, manufacturing, marketing, etc. -- have to get it right. Ford, under the same pressure, is not going to ease off the throttle on F-series upgrades. Competition is getting stronger, too.

Ram outsold Silverado three times this year in monthly sales, and the big pickups from Toyota and Nissan have seen major upgrades resulting stronger sales, especially for the Nissan Titan.

With the new Silverado and Sierra, we're about to see what GM is really made of.

Things are bigger in Texas -- even truck reveals.

Chevy surprised guests at Texas Motor Speedway today with a sneak peek of the 2019 Silverado Z71, weeks before its Detroit auto show reveal. Bowtie fans were celebrating 100 years of Chevy pickups when a helicopter dropped the next-gen truck in the middle of the festivities. GM president for North America Alan Batey was on hand for the show.

“Our owners’ passion for Chevrolet trucks is truly humbling,” said Batey, president of GM North America and global head of Chevrolet. “Many of our owners depend on their trucks for work and play, personalize their trucks in astonishing ways and pass their loyalty for Chevy Trucks down from generation to generation.”

Batey didn't give up too much information, but he did confirm that the new truck has a "high-tensile-strength steel bed." It is expected to have a 6.2-liter V8. The new Silverado LT Trailboss will be one of eight 2019 models. It gets the off-road equipment of the Z71 package and a 2-inch suspension lift.

January marks the 100-year anniversary of the delivery of the first Chevy truck. Hundreds of owners attended the Saturday reveal, and among the 100 vintage Chevy trucks in the infield was a 1988 S-10 -- the first truck owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was a special guest.

The 2019 Chevy Silverado Z71 made a surprise appearance at Chevy Truck Legends on Saturday.

Boxier & cheaper looking than the current model.

Doesn't matter. They'll still sell them just about as fast as they can make them.

'murica.

Looks like a beefed up Colorado.

If I was still in the market for a truck, the F-150 still looks better imo.

I'm sure they will sell like hot cakes though.

I was about to say; they stole the red and black theme from the colorado. looks exactly like it, and with all the jacked up Colorado's running around, one couldnt tell at first glance

well, until you hear it...my only gripe about the colorado, it sounds so shitty!
the V8 in the Silverado would be more my cup of tea, sound wise

The overall design does nothing for me. I didn't much like the current MMC design. The ~2015 was ok & I liked the ~2009 look too.
Maybe the GMC will look better, but this would put the Silverado/Sierra below the Tundra for me.

F150 > Current Silverado/Sierra > Tundra > Tacoma > Ridgeline > Colorado/Canyon > new Silverado > Ram > Titan > Frontier

Back in December at a Texas event celebrating Chevrolet’s 100 years of pickups, we got our first clear look at Chevy’s all-new Silverado. And it’s a major departure from the squared-off and safe design that has defined Chevy’s full-size pickups for decades.

The all-new Silverado, which will be offered in eight configurations, was shown in the new LT Trailboss trim which includes a 2-inch suspension lift and aggressive Goodyear Wrangler 265/65R18 tires. It looked tough to be sure. But what engines will the new Silverado use and what other models will be offered?

Tonight, at an event ahead of the 2018 Detroit auto show, Chevrolet gave us a closer look. The model line is comprehensive to put it mildly. Work Truck, Custom and LT occupy the bottom end of the equipment line. The RST is new and could be considered the sport truck trim. The LTZ and High Country, like today’s Silverado, represent the more luxurious end of the spectrum. The LT Trail Boss and lower priced Trail Boss Custom are the off-road models.
2019 Chevy Silverado interior
GM is using a mixed material approach on the Silverado. The doors, tailgate and hood are aluminum, while the fixed panels are all steel. Eighty percent of the all-new fully boxed steel frame is made from high-strength steel. It’s also 88 pounds lighter than the old one and has 10 percent greater torsional rigidity. And despite a wheelbase up to 3.9-inches longer on some models, when you compare the old Crew Cab shortbox to the new 2019 Crew Cab shortbox, the new model is 450 pounds lighter. One thing that’s noticeable right away is that the huge rear doors on these new Crew Cab models will open to a ton of room in the back seat: Chevy confirmed rear-seat passengers will have 43.8-inches of legroom, up 3 inches over today’s truck. In fact, Chevy says the interior will be the roomiest of all full-size trucks.

Under that aluminum hood are six powertrain combinations that include revised versions of the 5.3 and 6.2-liter V8s as well as a new 3.0-liter Duramax diesel V6. Both V8s will use a new technology called Dynamic Fuel Management which can shut down any number of cylinders between one and seven. The 6.2-liter and diesel come paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission that’s shared with Ford. Chevy didn’t mention any horsepower or torque figures but did hint that its diesel would not be overshadowed by any other light-duty diesel (like, say, Ford's new Power Stroke V6) in terms of output.

The suspension at both ends of the Silverado has been redesigned with new forged upper control arms in the independent front suspension. Out back, there are new live axles and a revised leaf-spring suspension design. Some models receive a carbon composite second stage rear spring borrowing a little from the Corvette’s playbook. And those springs save 12 pounds per side.

The beds of the new Silverados are deeper and wider with 63 cu-ft of cargo volume, which Chevy says is about 20 percent better than the competition. They are also made from a higher-grade steel than before. The bed floor has been widened by seven inches and there are new lockable cargo boxes on some models. In other words, the beds are bigger, tougher and more useful. And to keep those heavy loads in place, there are now 12 tie downs.

There’s still more to learn about the all-new 2019 Silverado. But we know enough to know these trucks will provide some stiff competition for Ford and Ram, and it's definitely time to stage our own battle of the light-duty diesels.
