The biggest headliner of General Motors' significant electrified announcements at CES may indeed be the Silverado EV, but the importance of confirmation that an Equinox EV and Blazer EV are also on the way can't be overstated. After all, Americans, as you're surely aware, love crossovers almost as much as they love oversized trucks, and the starting price of "around $30,000" for the electrified Equinox may be the game-changing price point that gets a heap of buyers off the fence and into their nearest Chevy dealership.

“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president, said in a statement. “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.”

We don't know much more about either of these impending electric crossovers. GM says the sleek-looking Equinox EV that you see pictured in the gallery above and which will rely on GM's Ultium Platform, will hit the market in the fall of 2023 in both fleet and retail versions, preceded by the Blazer EV and Silverado EV by a couple of months.

Chevrolet has finally decided to let us all take an in-depth look at the all-new Equinox EV. It’s going to be available starting from autumn next year in a limited-edition trim. Buyers of the regular specced SUVs will have to wait a little longer. But it’s good that they’re at least moving forward with total electrification.
The 2024 Equinox EV 2RS will be followed by the rest of the made-in-Mexico range, which will most likely start shipping in the first quarter of 2024. Here’s everything you need to know.

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV will be available in five trims. It'll offer a maximum of 300 mi (483 km) of GM-estimated range, and come as a front-wheel-drive (FWD) or as an electric all-wheel-drive (eAWD) SUV. This latter has been in development since 2015 and has also been confirmed for the famous Corvette.

The SUV will be available with 210 HP (213 PS) and 242 lb-ft (328 Nm) of torque in the standard FWD specification, while the eAWD models turn it up a notch to 290 HP (294 PS) and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) of torque.

Charging is possible at 11.5-kW, 19.2-kW (requires dedicated installation), and DC 150 kW stations. There’s nothing mentioned about the size of the battery pack, but we asked Chevrolet about it and will update this article as soon as they come back to us with an answer.

A worthy zero-tailpipe emission successor?
GM uses the “eAWD” term instead of the traditional “AWD” because it wants to emphasize all the advantages of a non-mechanical setup. The analog system might be more reliable in the long run, but the electronic versions of an all-wheel-drive system that use a clutch instead of a center differential give the vehicle more ways to control its movement, enhancing safety and maintaining efficiency.

But going back to the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, the upcoming SUV will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $30,000 without any government or tax incentive. Unfortunately, GM can’t confirm this is what customers will pay for the vehicle, but it is surely impressive that they’ve managed to offer their new EV for this much. However, dealers will set the final price. Looking at what others like Ford or Tesla are doing, Chevrolet is really trying to make this SUV as popular as possible. All we have to do now is see if they succeed.

The cheapest Equinox comes with the most basic spec available – the 1LT. This gets you manual seats, 19-inch wheels, and two 11-inch screens for the dashboard and the infotainment. Included as standard also are the driver assistance systems like reverse automatic braking and blind zone steering assist. General Motors also includes an eight-year or 100,000-mile limited warranty for the battery pack. Similarly, drivers will enjoy the one-pedal driving feel on every of the new compact EV SUV produced.

Super Cruise – dubbed by GM as “the industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology” – will be available as an option. It will allow for hands-free driving on “400,000 miles (643,738 kilometers) of compatible roads” from the U.S. and Canada. But GM says you should remain attentive while behind the steering wheel and you shouldn’t use any handheld device.

The next available trim – the 2LT – adds an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated steering wheel and front seats, a 17.7-inch infotainment screen, a front LED light bar, roof rails, and heated mirrors. Other useful things like a power liftgate remain optional.

But, wait! There's more!

The 3LT package adds dual-zone climate control, an electric passenger seat, ventilated front seats, a heated wiper park, a power liftgate, and adaptive cruise control.

For the best experience possible, there’s the Chevrolet Equinox EV 3RS that includes a sporty-looking steering wheel with a flat bottom but doesn’t tick some cool options like the Bose sound system, sunroof, Supercruise, or head-up display.

The ordering process isn’t open yet, as GM says more details will become available “closer to the start of production.” But if you want an Equinox, there’s a possibility some dealers might get you one at MSRP if you put a deposit down. However, be ready to wait until spring of 2024 or later for delivery.

Chevrolet’s VP Scott Bell said the Equinox “is an EV for everyone” and categorized it as an “affordable game-changer.”

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published another round of images depicting upcoming models that have been homologated. One of the future vehicles is the Chevrolet Equinox, which looks totally different than the model currently sold in the United States. Having been around since 2017, the existing North American version is getting up there in age, and this Chinese version likely depicts the next-gen, US-bound model.

The photos published on the MIIT website strongly suggest the 2025 Equinox heading stateside will be aligned with this Chinese model. While prototypes have been spotted with provisional headlights, you can see their placement is the same. In addition, the crossover destined for the People's Republic appears to have the same split grille design and the outline of the hood is identical.

Moving at the back, the taillights appear to be in the same place, but because they're temporary clusters, they don't look the same. In addition, the camo presumably gets in the way of seeing how the rear lights extend down at the outer corners. The red horizontal reflectors are in the same spot as in the Chinese version, as is the crease stretching from left to right. Other similarities include the roof spoiler with the third brake light as well as the tiny rear wiper.

The MIIT website not only reveals the vehicle's exterior design but also some of the technical specifications. We get to find out the next Equinox due to be sold in the world's second most populous country is going to be 4653 millimeters (183.1 inches) long and 1902 mm (74.8 in) wide. Three different heights are listed, likely depending on trim level and with/without roof rails: 1710 mm (67.32 in), 1712 mm (67.40 in), and 1714 mm (67.48 in).

The Chevy crossover has a wheelbase of 2730 mm (107.5 in) and tips the scales at 1,550 kilograms (3,417 pounds) or 1,620 kg (3,571 lbs), depending on specification. The version depicted here is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 170 hp (127 kW). It's enough punch for a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h).

The Chinese model is likely to go official in the coming months but we're not expecting its American cousin to debut until next year, likely as a 2025MY.

Driving into the heart of the largest and most competitive segment in the industry, Chevrolet's next-generation 2025 Equinox offers modern connectivity and new safety tech, wrapped in a head-turning design.

Now, every Chevy crossover and SUV, including Trax, Trailblazer, Blazer and the 2024 Traverse, is new or has been refreshed in the last two years. Compared to the current vehicle, the new Equinox will offer more contemporary and differentiated choices - including larger screens, new safety features and Equinox's first-ever outdoor-inspired trim, ACTIV.

"The 2025 Equinox brings to one of our most important nameplates bodylines and proportions inspired by our brand's truck DNA, also adopted in the upcoming Traverse," said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. "It also builds on the core strengths that have earned Equinox tremendous customer loyalty over the past two decades, and made it the second-best seller in our lineup, after Silverado."

Chevrolet will offer Equinox in LT, RS and ACTIV trims, raising the level of standard content for all.

Introducing the Equinox ACTIV

ACTIV brings a fresh persona to the redesigned Equinox, inspired by customers whose passions start where the pavement ends. Equinox ACTIV features a unique front fascia and styling cues that create and accentuate the off-road look, all-terrain tires, and an available white roof for a two-tone finish. Additional ACTIV content includes:
  • Rugged front fascia with vertical grille inserts and gray metallic-finished accents
  • Blacked-out badging
  • 17-inch machined-face aluminum wheels
  • Maple Sugar and Black interior theme, with premium Evotex and sueded microfiber seating surfaces
  • ACTIV embroidered on driver and passenger seat head restraints
  • Available heated and ventilated front seats and rear heated outboard seats, and memory driver seat personalization
Expressive exterior

The next-generation Equinox is eye-catching, with bodylines inspired by the strong proportions of the Chevy truck lineup and its larger sibling, the 2024 Traverse.

"This generation of Equinox has taken on a broad-shouldered, athletic appearance that conveys confidence and versatility," said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. "We leaned into distinct appearances and material selection for LT, RS and ACTIV so everyone can see themselves in an Equinox."

The all-new Equinox is 2.3 inches wider than the outgoing model, enhancing its more planted stance. Additional design details include:
  • Three distinct front fascia treatments - LT, RS and ACTIV
    • LT offers both standard chrome and Midnight Edition High Gloss Black grille finishes for even more customer choice
  • Squared wheel openings and fender flares add visual muscle
  • Distinctive C-pillar shark fin that adds the appearance of motion to Equinox even when it is sitting still - and a clear familial resemblance to the all-new Traverse
  • All-LED lighting with striking light elements - separated in the front and both vertically and horizontally expanded in the rear
  • Aluminum wheel choices ranging from the standard 17-inch on LT to available 20-inch wheels on RS, a first for Equinox
RS brings dynamic, bold style with standard black emblems and mirrors, available black roof, wide grille opening, and high gloss finish on the grille bar and lower fascia, with 19-inch Carbon Flash machined aluminum wheels standard.

Modern, tech-focused interior

A revamped interior conveys a more contemporary, spacious ambiance that, along with other recently introduced Chevy crossovers and SUVs, puts a stronger focus on technology and user experience.

In front of the driver is an 11-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center. Layered against the driver information center and angled slightly toward the driver is the interior focal point - a new 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen that's more than 30% larger than the largest screen offered in the current model. It's the gateway to music, media, maps and other connected services via Google built-in.

The dashboard is pulled away, adding to the spacious interior.

Additional highlights:
  • New Electronic Precision Shift on the steering column eliminates a range selector mechanically linked to the transmission, opening more storage space beneath the infotainment screen, ahead of the center console
  • Engaging tactile materials and decorative trim with coordinated textures are used in the seats, instrument panel, doors, storage areas and more
  • Standard heated steering wheel and heated front seats
  • Available Evotex seating on LT
  • Folding 60/40 split-bench second row seats, enabling up to 63.5 cubic feet of storage with both seats folded
  • Hidden rear cargo floor storage space
  • Standard six speaker audio system
  • Available wireless charging
RS is a step above other street-inspired trims with distinctive Torch Red and Santorini Blue stitching on the Evotex seats, debossed "RS" logos on the headrests in the front row, and a heated, flat-bottom steering wheel. Buyers can add available heated and ventilated front seats and rear heated outboard seats.

Designed with safety in mind

When it comes to safety and driver assistance technology, the 2025 Equinox offers more than ever, starting with standard Chevy Safety Assist - a suite of features that includes:
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • IntelliBeam
Additional standard safety and driver assistance features include:
  • Side Bicyclist Alert
  • Rear Vision Camera
  • Rear Seat Reminder
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Rear Cross Traffic Braking
  • Rear Park Assist
  • Enhanced Lane Keep Assist
All trims include Teen Driver technology, which helps encourage safe driving behavior by letting parents conveniently activate customizable vehicle settings and view their teen's driving performance through a new Connected Teen Driver feature in the myChevrolet mobile app.

Power and adjustability

Equinox debuts with a 1.5L Turbo engine that produces 175 horsepower and is matched with a continuously variable transmission in front-wheel-drive configurations, or an eight-speed automatic transmission with available all-wheel-drive.

Equinox is trailering-capable, with a maximum capacity of up to 1,500 pounds when equipped with available AWD.

For the first time, Equinox offers RS and ACTIV customers driver-selectable modes, accessed via a rotator on the center console. The driver can select from Normal and Snow on FWD-equipped vehicles. AWD adds Off-Road mode. Drive modes adjust the propulsion system performance to best handle the conditions.
