Chevrolet (Daewoo) S3X News **"In showroom trim"(page 1)**
Chevrolet S3X Concept
Don't be fooled: this small concept sport/ute is aimed at the European market and it has style, panache and exceptional fit and finish. It's also going into production by 2006. It is a seven-passenger mini-ute that heats up the BMW flame surface design language. It is designed and manufactured by GM Daewoo in South Korea-which itself is a surprise and delight-and when the production version launches it will be the first diesel-powered vehicle developed entirely by the Koreans. The large "panoramic" roof lends a spacious feel. Now scrunch your eyes and take a closer look: could this be the Saturn Vue or Chevy Equinox incarnate?

Chevrolet S3X - - Source: The Car Connection
Chevrolet S3X
The SUV-style concept is a thinly-disguised version of one of the first new models Daewoo will produce for Chevrolet to sell in Europe. It will feature an all-new diesel produced in Korea . The crossover vehicle can hold up to seven passengers in three rows. The S3X boasts a large rear window that can be opened separately from the tailgate. And an oversized glass roof provides the concept vehicle with an open and airy feel. GM officials admit that the Daewoo brand name did not have an overly positive image around the world, one reason they're abandoning it in favor of Chevrolet. But GM "car czar" Bob Lutz insists any concerns about quality are a thing of the past. In general, he told TheCarConnection, "Korean quality is coming up so fast now, it rivals the rest of the world."

The headlights are very Volvo (see also: new S40), profile is pretty damn X3, and the back is almost MDXish.
But that's a pretty hot design for an SUV, considering it's coming from Chevy. But they did just make a sexy Vette, maybe they're on a roll.

Whoa that's a good looking SUV. The profile's glass screams X3/X5, and the roof is all FX, but the Korean's are masters as stealing styling concepts (Kia Amanti). Here's another vehicle that should come here but won't. I'd buy it, Korean build be damned. Korea's quality is only getting better and better. This is the three row, car based suv that Buick should have instead of the Rendevous. That won't happen, though, because Buick wants to be a premium brand, it being Korean built will work against it. But it could be a replacement for the ugly ass Azteck. GM just needs to put a more powerful engine in there maybe upgrade the supension to give it sportier characteristics.

GM says seven-seat, Chevrolet-badged S3X SUV is not for United States - - By RICK KRANZ | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek
PARIS --General Motors Vice Chairman Robert Lutz said the automaker decided not to offer a seven-passenger SUV developed on the Theta architecture for North America.
Last month, GM unveiled the Chevrolet S3X concept at the Paris auto show, a small SUV with three rows of seats. But Lutz says it doesn't suit American tastes.
"We decided that the (S3X's) seven-passenger seating was very tight and that for all intents and purposes you would have to choose between luggage or seven seats," Lutz said. The S3X's third row of seats is designed primarily for children.
Speaking of the S3X's size and seven-passenger seating, Lutz said that by U.S. standards the S3X is small, but "Europeans would call it a medium-sized SUV" and find the tight seating arrangement acceptable.
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. will build a seven-passenger production version of the Chevrolet S3X in Korea.
Sales are planned for Korea and Europe, beginning in 2006.
The S3X concept is based on GM s Theta vehicle architecture, as is the Chevrolet Equinox and Saturn Vue. But unlike the S3X in Paris, the Equinox and Vue have two rows of seats, seating five.

Even though it may not be a large suv by U.S. standards, I think that it woudn't be a commercial failure here. Customers might like the idea of an suv in the RAV4/VUE/Escape price range with an option of a third row (albeit for kids) or add strage capacity. It'd be a unique selling feature in this segment.

Chevy 4x4 ready for action - - Source: Autoexpress
Feast your eyes on the world debut of the Chevrolet S3X in final showroom trim. It's the first all-new model developed since the American brand bought Daewoo. And as you can see from our spy shot, it closely resembles the concept seen at last year's Paris Motor Show.
Codenamed C100, the production soft-roader's final name is due to be confirmed in the next few weeks, before the car appears in the metal at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The big news is that the newcomer will boast seven seats. That sets it apart from its Vauxhall counterpart, the Antara, which was revealed in issue 876. According to insiders, the S3X is longer, which enables the cabin to accommodate a third row of chairs, and should give it the edge over its GM stablemate.
Other practical touches include a conventional tailgate with an opening glass screen. That allows small items to be stowed without opening the entire boot. As with the Antara, it also has electronically controlled four-wheel drive, which only engages the rear wheels when required. In everyday conditions, power is provided to the front tyres.
It should go on sale in June with a range of four engines - three of them new. The base 2.0-litre petrol unit is a reworked version of an existing motor, while a 2.0 diesel will be available in 120bhp and 150bhp trim. The flagship will boast a 3.2 V6. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but expect it to start from around £17,000, making this the most expensive model in the firm's line-up.
Chevy bosses are set for a busy year in 2006 as a heavily revised version of the Ford Mondeo-sized Evanda saloon will be launched in summer. It's currently sold in Europe and isn't available in right-hand drive, but all that will change next year. The firm's new oil-burners will also be introduced in the Lacetti family car range, in about 12 months' time. A small diesel could also be developed for the Kalos supermini.
